Do NOT go here. The office people should be flipping burgers at McDonald's. At first, they tried to run my procedure through a three year old policy which I told them NOT to do because I no longer had that policy. I even asked them to just take that policy out of their system. The incompetent bimbo at the desk did NOT do this. They told me they were in network, only to find out they lied, and sent me to collections. Not to mention....the work they did....did NOT work. Then they had the nerve, after they sent me to collections, to ask if I wanted a cleaning. Are you serious? There are hundreds of dentists in the area. If they would have just told me they weren't in network, I would have taken my business elsewhere. read more

The hygienist Chelsea was very rude and disrespectful, not something I expect when someone is working on a part of my body. She tried to rush an appointment and spoke to me in a condescending manner. I was new to the area and needed a teeth cleaning and some x-rays to check on my wisdom teeth. I get my x-rays taken, and Dr. Shepler walks in and greets me and, after that, tells me I need a root canal on my front tooth. I am 20 years old and have never had a root canal nevertheless on my front tooth. So I ask some questions, and the doctor leaves. I then scheduled the root canal for the next day. I call back 2 hours after my appointment, the day before my root canal, to ask some questions and ask for my X-rays to send to my dentist back home. I got a call the next day at 8 am saying I was being taken off the books because I asked too many questions and asked for my x-ray. Ashton said it made the doctor uncomfortable and said, "he said that since you are so young, he doesn't want to mess it up." I wish I were joking. They were so confident in his abilities the day before. I can't believe the website says he is a root canal expert. So unprofessional. I will never go back. Update: GET A SECOND OPINION!! I just went to a specialist for root canals. He took another x-ray and there was nothing present on my tooth. The specialist tested my teeth and said all of my teeth are alive and healthy. Make sure you advocate for yourself and ask questions! Its so important and my asking of too many questions just saved me from getting an expensive procedure I did not need. Keep in mind van buren dental did not further test the tooth or take any more X-rays they just put me on the procedure books. read more

STAY AWAY! I went for my dentures. They made this idiot Jamie Shepler despite a rock left to right kept on insisting that how it looked outside handing me a mirror matters, never mind how it feels. He insisted that holding the dentures with two fingers despite that was the same way he got dentures to rock back and forth in the first place. He was angry. To which I had him mix a liner I held it place with teeth held down, as soon as he tried to move it, he couldn't. At that point, he had nothing to say but he got angrier, telling me if I wanted my money back. He's stubborn, despite the second time around would turn out... eventually. STAY AWAY! read more

After my daughter's experience at Van Buren Dental, I would recommend avoiding this practice at all costs. She called me from this office because they had so upset her! Avoid Van Buren Dental at all costs. I recently went for a night guard. After an hour and three tries, the tech couldn't get an impression. The dentist finally had to come do it on a fourth try. By the time I left I my shirt and pants were covered in spit because of gagging and nobody bothering to properly address this. My throat and mouth were also terribly sore. Upon leaving, I paid $289 for the guard and lab fees. The medical biller at the front desk wanted me to pay $500 but I requested it be run through my insurance first. I went today to pick up my guard and was informed that I had a balance due. I called my insurance company prior to my appointment to check my benefits. My insurance covers night guard at 50% every 60 months. I spoke with the medical billing manager who refused to call insurance, contact insurance or give me my guard. She was unprofessional, rude, uncooperative and basically refused to discuss or problem solve. She tells the receptionist "she's not getting anything until she pays $500". Then, she tells me that I have to leave or she'll call the police to have me "escorted out". Now, keep in mind that at this point I am trying to reason with her and am in tears because I can't understand why any of this is happening. She also was claiming that I was "refusing to pay". Which, I'd already paid more than I am required to pay and she was refusing to look into the issue. I have never, ever, been treated this way before in my life. I had overheard her be rude and unreasonable to another patient on another visit. Silly me, I thought it was the patient's fault. I then left a message for the practice notifying them to take me and my children off the schedule and not to contact me again. Shortly after I get a call from the medical biller telling me that she has now called insurance and the device is covered at 50%. I reminded her that she threatened to call the police on me. She said, "we aren't going to go there." I told her don't call me again and hung up. Bad service, unknowledgeable staff, belligerent billing department. There are plenty of other dentists in the Miami Valley. read more

I have been a patient here for 13 or so years. They are the sweetest, professional, dental practice around! Dayton is lucky to have such an awesome group caring for its citizens!! They are affordable especially if you don't have dental insurance. They work with you and aren't holding you hostage for payment in full when it's time to check out for that visit! First exposure with Heather and Lindsay in the front office was fabulous- they were able to schedule a cleaning for me the next day ! My hygienist Cyndy had the most delicate touch and perhaps was the best cleaning I have ever had. Dr. Shepler has the best energy and smiling face. I really appreciated the fact he wasn't pushing items I really didn't need (ie fillings etc) With so many dentist in the Dayton area, I am so glad a friend recommended Van Buren. Great experience! I have been going to Van Buren Dental for over 25 years and have always had the best care. Lately, there's been a lot of changes in personnel and recently have been taken care of by a whole new "crew". Change is always hard, but I'm so impressed with my recent experience. The Hygeinist, Shannon, was great. Very professional with a great personality. I saw Dr. Hoza and along with her assistant, Jenn, they did a great job! I really do not like this place. I was recommend by my mom, but I've encountered nothing but problems since I switched to this office. I had several problems after having fillings done and had to go back three times to get it adjusted. I've had problems with bills being much more than what was quoted and with scheduling. My hygienist and dentist both seem very sweet and educated. Perhaps I'm having bad luck each time I go, but this place is not a good fit for me. read more

I have been here twice, and both times were great experiences! This dentist was able to get me in at the beginning of the day for my first visit within a few days. (I had called another dentist closer to home who had an 8-month wait for an early appointment!) I was quickly greeted with a smile at the reception desk. Neither of my wait times in the waiting room was very long. My hygienist, Cyndy Ross, is extremely knowledgeable, thorough, and friendly. She has given me some great advice! I have seen two different dentists, both of which addressed any concerns and offered suggestions. I would definitely go to them again! read more
