We had a great experience renting kayaks from Salt Spring. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and gave us good information about our routes (we rented on 2 different days). We especially liked the fiberglass kayaks which were so swift and easy to paddle. Such a beautiful place to kayak! read more

I had read good things and booked online for Monday (this was Wednesday). They called me and said they didn't have the minimum number for Monday and could I come in that day. Caught the bus at Fulford Harbour. It was a great experience. The flotation suit kept me safe and dry. Sat at the front of the zodiac but I think the sight lines were good from anywhere, and the boat stops frequently so you can stand up. We got to see a mother and calf, and a lot of seals and bald eagles. The guide had a lot of information and was also very respectful about keeping a distance from the whales which I appreciated. (I realize there are a lot of concerns about the impact of boats.) overall worth the money and he took us out for longer than three hours. Keep in mind you will not get close and get that great shot unless you have a telephoto lens, but that isn't the experience I was going for. read more

Me and my girlfriends went on a whale watching tour and we were so impressed by the way our captain Andrew handled the boat, such a smooth ride ! And we saw not only Orcas and Humpbacks but so much other wildlife. Having Zoë who is a marine biologist and the owner of the company now on board was a bonus as we got to learn so much about the area and animals ! Also we loved catching the tour from inside the Gulf Islands. We have gone from Vancovuer before and leaving from Salt Spring cut down travelling time on the open ocean for over a hour each way just to get to the whales. We took off through the beautiful gulf islands in calm waters and it was amazing how much nicer it was than leaving from Vancouver. We actually had 4 hours of observation not 2 hours of open ocean travel time. I would highly recommend getting into the gulf islands and leaving from there for your exploring. You can ferry or fly in. The staff made us feel very safe and were so experienced and gave such good service !! We are planning to go back and do the all day kayaking trip. Great company to go with if you want to explore the beautiful and wild Gulf Islands in a small group and safe Experince! read more

We booked for 24 hrs orginally and had a situation come up where we had to return early and to our surprise were given a discount back as we didn't rent the scooter for the full amount of time. I went on a whale watching tour with Salt Spring Adventure on June 11th, 2017. The website says there are two tours per day, but due to lack of passengers, they were only running one tour per day, at 12:30pm. My specific tour only had 6 people on it, which was actually great. We all got lots of room to sit and move around on the zodiac and didn't have anything blocking our view. The 'captain' was very nice and seemed to know a lot about the wildlife and the area, although I was disappointed in his knowledge of birds. He either didn't think we'd be interested, or he didn't know a lot because there were several birds I saw that he didn't point out (that I thought would be pointed out). The boat was a larger-sized zodiac with seating for about 12 people. Because it was an open design, each passenger was required to wear a full safety suit, but we didn't have to put them on our upper bodies unless we wanted to. They are nice to have when the boat is moving because it gets quite chilly. But when we were sitting still on the water, it got quite hot in the suits. This was my sixth or seventh whale watching tour worldwide, and my third tour from Vancouver Island. I love seeing such majestic animals in the natural environment, but it doesn't seem to matter where you go whale watching from Vancouver Island, every whale spotted will have at least 6-7 boats circling it. On this tour, the two humpback whales we saw had -- at one point -- a dozen boats around it. Thankfully, the whale watching tour operators seem to keep a good distance from the whales, but every picture I have of the whales includes several boats. Because of this, I'm seriously considering not doing any more of these types of whale watching tours. read more

Without a doubt, renting ebikes from Salt Springs Adventure Co. was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. TLDR: DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, SKETCHY EQUIPMENT AND LOVE BEING IGNORED! A friend and I came to Salt Spring for a weekend and booked ebikes 3 weeks in advance in order to be able to explore the island for a full day (without worrying about the hills). When we arrived at the shop that morning, we were signed in with no problem. The lady at the shop recommended some specific spots so we decided to take her advice and headed straight for Beddiss beach, which is along a paved back road about 8 km away from Ganges Harbour and the shop. Right before we made it to Beddis, my front tire blew on some gravel on the paved road. Luckily I wasn't going very fast, so we were able to pull over right away safely and called the company to let them know what had happened, assuming they'd come pick us up or exchange the ebike to one with a working tire. Because hey, when you're an adventure company that rents ebikes and scooters, you plan for this kind of thing, right? WRONG! This is when, and I kid you not, we were told "oh that sucks, good luck with that."They then proceeded to tell me that while they do have a van that could come pick us up, the owner's husband had it that day and she didn't feel like leaving the shop because she was 7 months pregnant. So obviously at this point we're in the middle of farmer's fields and forest wondering how the hell we're supposed to get a 100 lb ebike back to the shop 8 km away. The dude on the phone tells us to "try a taxi". Now, I can understand them telling customers that if their ebike runs out of juice before getting it back to the shop they're responsible for returning it as there's pretty fair warning on the bikes on how much battery's left. That being said, upon examination of the wheel the tire was ground down to the quick (it had a colour changing layer that was massively exposed, which is where the gravel puncture occurred). The taxi shows up after about 45 minutes of us standing on the side of the road. When we got to the shop there was a dude on hand to help me swap the bike with a new one back into the taxi so I could get taxiied back to my friend, who was still waiting on the side of the road with her working bike (we couldn't fit both into the taxi). The taxi driver then advised that it was probably going to cost me about $60 for the trip, upon which point the dude who swapped out the bike told me the only person I could speak to about that was the owner. The owner then comes out, looks straight at me, and proceeds to give the full shpiel on safe motorbike usage to a group of tourists. So I'm sitting there with the taxi idling, with the taxi driver saying that she can't (understandably) wait around as they are super busy and she needs to pick up other people. The owner then ignores me until I run out of time with the taxi and need to get going (the taxi company was super busy and they couldn't wait). It cost me $60 for the taxi and cost us 2.5 hours of our day to deal with it. By the time we got sorted and made it around the rest of the island, everything was closed for the evening. So massive shout out to Salt Spring Adventure Co. for really ruining our day and wasting our time. While they did offer us a 50% refund, that basically covered only the taxi for me and we missed out on most of our stops because of time wasted. While I can now look back on this and have a laugh with my friend, I would truly advised EVERYONE to book with another company on the island. They do not give a sh*t about their customers. read more

We really enjoyed our kayaking trip with Skylar. It was a little windy going out that day and the kids weren't thrilled about that but still had a fantastic time due mostly to Skylar. He is super patient, has great energy and shared with us interesting facts about the islands. Thanks for a fun afternoon on the water! read more

I rarely write yelp reviews, but the women who are running this outfit are A+ top notch, so I want to encourage people to rent from them or go on a trip with them. As a solo traveller, the other shop in town basically ignored me, but SSA hooked me into a great guided trip to chocolate beach. Jo was a fantastic guide, warm, funny and checked in on everyone to make sure they were doing ok. They made sure everyone felt comfortable. Can't recommend enough. read more

BEWARE! These guys gave us a damaged e-bike and we didn't notice, when we left the property we trusted that the bikes had been inspected, we were shown how to turn them on and given helmets and we went off to enjoy our day. We didn't notice any damage during the ride, and we had no incidents with them - they were always in full view - so no issues happened while in our possession. Upon returning them we were waved off with a smile and left. Got a call 30 minutes later saying we would be charged for a damaged bike! They charged us $500 for damage we didn't even do. They are totally unprofessional and take advantage of naive tourists! BE CAREFUL, if you have to use them, make sure you take pictures of the equipment so they don't swindle you into paying for existing damage! So utterly disappointed. read more

We rented bikes for 5 days and did a morning kayak. Both were great. The owner actually delivered the bikes to Vancouver Island for the start of our trip. We were nervous about what sorts of bikes they would be, but they were beautiful, new, with well-chosen equipment. Kayaking was also terrific-- we learned a lot, and appreciated the thoughtfulness and advice from our guide. read more

We rented bikes for the weekend, and Sean Mulligan, the owner, gave us excellent customer service and tourism advice, providing maps and recommended routes to bike. The Norco Indie 3 Hybrid bicycles were almost new and well maintained. The shop is just a few minutes walk from downtown Ganges. I would recommend renting bicycles from them as a great way to explore Salt Spring Island. read more

We like these guys to rent scooters. Wish they weren't so pricy but so be it. My wife's scooter helmet lock didn't work so they have some maintenance to do but over all the bikes -- Honda Ruckas's - -were great!! We will most likely rent from them again. Nice people! I'll do five stars as soon as you get that helmet lock fixed... I think it was bike No. 2. LOL read more

We rented a canoe from Salt Spring Adventures and had a wonderful time. We had a little trouble finding the office initially, but the staff were really friendly and the equipment was in good shape. We explored the small islands in Ganges Harbour for 2.5 hours and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The landscape is stunning and there are so many places to explore. We'll be back for sure if we get the chance. read more
