We live in the neighborhood and always try to support local businesses. We also leave good reviews when they're deserved. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. When we arrived, we greeted the two people working and got no response. Throughout the entire visit, they were neither friendly nor polite. When it was time to pay, they didn't even say the total or acknowledge us. As we were leaving, we said "thank you" and still got no response. Whoever the manager or owner is, this really needs attention. I won't be coming back, and if anyone asks me, I'll share my experience. read more

I was really impressed by the creativity of flavors, this isn't the usually assortment. Peanut Butter Brownie Honeycomb: Wow, this was absolutely delicious! Love all the different textures from the chewy brownie to the smooth peanut butter to the creamy ice cream. And the different flavors mesh very well together. No single flavor dominated, they all worked. Key Lime Pie: Another nice mix of textures with the graham cracker crumble providing contrast to the key lime sauce. And that key lime sauce was a dominant force providing a unique tang. It did overwhelm the flavor profile of everything else, but that's ok since it was yummy. read more

Raise your hand if when you go into an ice cream shop you expect to try a couple/few flavors. I think that's somewhat normal or part of the experience, right? Well at this shop when Caz or Cas is on the job and there's a small line...she kinda bugs out and allows NO tasting...at all. You must pick or go away. It's a somewhat awkward experience when you have to be perfect in your ice cream choices...especially when paying 9 bucks a scoop. Good luck in there and one last thing about Cas or Caz...she's got tennis elbow (golfers elbow?!) and cannot scoop...which is also strange as it's part of the job description. I would suggest Freddo Gelato down the street...they have 3 people on the line and are better priced and their scoops. Well, their scoops are legit! Deep and very baseball like. I came by to the newly opened Van Leeuwen on a Sunday afternoon after lunch. The ice cream shop is located by 16th and Collins in Miami Beach. I've been a fan for a while - buying the pints at the grocery stores but hadn't gone to a shop despite seeing them in NYC. It was quite busy but staff was really kind and helpful, letting us try many different flavors. We went with two scoop - the Marion cheesecake and the cookie dough on a cone bowl. Both ice creams were delicious and there are tons of different flavors. Both dairy and non-dairy. They have milkshakes and other options. You can even take a pint home. I will say the cone was a little under baked but was still enjoyable. There's ample amount of seating inside and out. Definitely a great ice cream spot! read more

Wow! I loved everything about my visit. As soon as you walk in you're warmly greatly by the amazing and friendly staff. They said I could sample as many flavors as I'd like and of course I did, I tried just about every single flavor and I'd say I liked most. Take full advantage and try them all so you can decide yourself what you'd like. They have the following flavors from what I can remember: key lime pie, munberry cheesecake (I think that's the name), peanut butter (vegan and regular), vanilla, honeycomb, chocolate, strawberry, earl grey, jasmine with passion fruit, banana bread (vegan), pistachio, praline buttercream, cherry, and many more that I cannot recall now. I got a cone with 3 flavors because I truly love ice cream and their ice cream was truly creamy. I chose pistachio, praline buttercream, and vegan peanut butter. They have indoor and outdoor sitting. They also have a bathroom that you can use if you're a customer (not every place in Miami Beach has this). Overall a nice place to go alone or with friends or family. I first discovered Van Leeuwen a few years at Hudson Yards in Manhattan and loved it. I remember it was in a hot Labor Day weekend, and that ice cream was just what I needed for that hot afternoon. When I saw they opened a new location in Miami Beach, I drove over the MacArthur Causeway to South Beach just to taste it and see if they were still as good as I remembered. And yes, they are. I sampled a couple flavors, but I couldn't leave without my pistachio. It is the real deal. The location itself is located at the heart of the touristic zone in Miami Beach, but don't let that prevent you from tasting this. This is the best ice cream I have ever had. I had the vegan banana flavor and the brownie fudge in a waffle cone, and the cone was made fresh (it was still warm!!). When I asked to sample a flavor, I was given a small metal spoon which I thought was so neat and environmentally friendly.
