Fantastic service and reasonable price. I brought in my brother's iPhone while he was in hospital, and it was thoroughly screwed up. The down volume button was not working, which is also required with the power button to turn off. The lightning port was not working, so you could not charge or sync by cable. The ringer toggle switch was frozen in the off position so you could not hear if someone called or texted you. Basically it had experienced severe liquid damage from exceptionally sweet sugary liquid, and all that sugar had turned rock solid. The gentleman at VanCell diagnosed the issue on the spot. He suggested that the best fix was to replace the housing and charging port, which would be about 3 hours labour plus parts. By housing I mean the entire external part of the phone aside from the front glass, containing all the volume, power and ringer buttons. He literally had to open the phone, remove ALL the internal parts, re-install them in a new housing and then re-seal the entire device. That sounded pricey but the phone is relatively new and quite expensive. I was pleasantly surprised when he quoted me a net price of $190 pre-tax. It was closing time but he said he could do it the next day and have it done by afternoon. I picked it up at 4pm the following day and it literally looked and worked like a brand new phone. He had also thrown in a new screen protector to replace the cracked one I brought it in with. I had forgotten to bring the charging cord and block with me to bring to my brother, so I added them as well. The final bill for the parts and labour, screen protector, cord, charging block and tax was $240. That seemed extremely reasonable to me, as I'm an industrial electrician and would be billed out at WAY more than that for 3 hours labour plus materials. I live in New Westminster myself, but if I ever need work on my own phone I can't imagine ever going anywhere else. Everyone needs to know a few good, key trades people in life...a good plumber, electrician and mechanic, and in today's world of $1 to 2k flagship phones, a good smart phone technician. I have to admit, I was a little worried at first. I've used these guys twice in the past, and called in to have my HTC one glass repaired. The person on the phone said it would take a day to repair it. I asked why, she said "it could be that we don't have it in stock, or we're busy, or it takes longer or something".. and I'm like "what???" so I asked to speak to a technician, to try and schedule a time, or get an answer, and she says "I am a technician" - so I asked her why she's so confused as to why it would take so long, and she gets offended - I ended up taking it to another place, that did it for 20% less, and within two hours - Yolo Repairs (hate the name, the service was great, however). The absurd accusation that I was being racist is utter nonsense. I was talking to this person OVER THE PHONE - and so he's now suggesting that I determined she was assumedly non-caucasian, and that I am caucasian? I'm not the one racist here, but thanks for coming out. I did ask for someone who's English comprehension was better - but that was because she was seemingly so confused. Had nothing to do with racism, nor I am aware at this point whether the person I was speaking to was caucasian or other. I don't recall detecting an accent - but that would make too much sense. I could not be happier with the service I received at vancell. After an initial repair which worked for 18 months (three times the warranty period for the repair), my screen failed. After reading my update below, JB contacted me and offered to have a look, for free, despite the expired warranty - as often the cables can come loose, leading to the symptoms I experienced. I brought it in a while later, and a very pleasant tech, Irene, took a look and determined it wasn't the cables - but then offered to replace the screen on the spot, for free, out of warranty, with no receipt or anything, and with no indication that their original repair was in any way related to the current malfunction. Given typical service I receive at "aftermarket" repair shops, particularly when the topic is technical enough that you are at an information disadvantage and thus lack any leverage, this was a breath of fresh air, and I highly recommend this place as a first choice for anyone seeking phone repair in Vancouver. read more

I had the screen on my Google Nexus 6P phone replaced here a few weeks ago and it is still working great. The technician examined my phone and said that the LCD was broken, there was also a dent on the metal frame of the phone that she said she would try her best to fix. The screen replacement cost $257.60 including tax. They have a 6 month warranty on the repair (does not include if you crack your screen again!) I was told the replacement would take 2 hours. Unfortunately, this place was really out of the way for me, but out of all the stores I called, this one had my screen in stock the same day and had enough reliable reviews online. They are located in a residential area with not that many other businesses around (like a coffee shop, restaurant, or stores) to keep me busy while I waited. They are a 10-15 min walk from 29th Ave Skytrain station so I decided to hop back on the Skytrain to kill 2 hours at Metrotown (3 stops away). I returned in time and my repair was ready. It was like new and she did a great job in fixing the dent as well! There were several rubber bands around the problem areas and I was told to keep them on for the next day to ensure the glue cures. The only downside for me was the location, but otherwise friendly service and good quality work. read more

The girl even gave me a courtesy phone for 3 days. (The place I had taken earlier had told me 10 days and it took them 2 weeks to let me know it was not unlocked) Not only, we're they fast, friendly and efficient, they clearly know what they are dealing with and don't leave you hanging. not impressed! I went to the portmoody vancell and I was there to fix my iPhone 5c and it was great I fixed it and it was done in 20 mins ! Later that day I noticed my phone was gliching and the screen was not in properly... I popped it back in place and carried on. A few weeks later my screen would turn off & not work ! I did nothing to it nothing !!!!!! I go return it and with my recipe and they say no ! I payed 130$ for my phone to be fixed and a 6 month warranty& they decline !!! I typically do not write negative reviews, but I wanted to post this as a bit of a cautionary tale for those of you seeking phone repair. The short version is simply do not repair your phone here, the long version continues below. I emailed VanCell on multiple occasions at the beginning of November, seeking repair for a cracked HTC One screen. I was told that a screen would be ordered in, that it would be held for me, and that I was to bring the phone in at my leisure. Fast forward a week or so, and the held screen had been sold to another customer - an inconvenience, but understandable as it is a first come first serve business. Approximately two weeks later a screen came in, and the phone was repaired. Almost immediately the trouble started, however. The phone's colour profile had very noticeably gone from cool to warm, and the colour reproduction was so off I needed to download a calibrating application to fix it. I was told - completely falsely - that this is, "how the panels are made. Some are warm, some are cool." (For clarity's sake, that is untrue.) In addition to the strange colour profile, the phone's speakers were almost unusable: any audio that come from the phone was garbled and cracked, and the phone itself made a rattling noise whenever it was moved. So begins repair number two, a month later, for what should have taken an hour. We take the phone in, once again, and have it repaired, once again. This time, the phone is given back to us with a dime-sized blue dot in the middle of the screen, which I immediately report to an individual I believe to be the owner. I am told it will be fixed, that this never happens, and to bring it in whenever I have the time. From the period that I sent the final email, to now, the phone was dropped from no higher than 5" on to a plush, shag carpet - in other words, a distance that would in no way damage a properly installed, quality display. The body of the phone was in no way damaged, and yet the screen cracked in a single line straight through the middle. This was a product quality and installation issue, rather than a force issue. After just speaking with them again now, we were told that, "This is what happens when you drop your phone," and that they would begrudgingly fix the previous issue of the blue dot. At this point, I am done with this company. I will be sure to post this experience on whatever avenues I can, as the customer service took a sharp turn for the worse once it became clear that the issue was their fault. Please be cautious when purchasing a repair service from this business, as it will end up costing you more than $200. UPDATE: After a dismissive and rude correspondence from the owner, I was summarily blocked from their Facebook page and had my negative experiences deleted. Perhaps not the most intelligent public relations and customer service play I have ever seen. This is also the final email: She could wait for us to remove the pressure causing the blue dot, the reason she came in! No worries review away, sounds like you have nothing better to do. So, needless to say, after being insulted on multiple occasions and dismissed, I will not be pursuing service from VanCell. Hopefully your experience is better. read more

The screen on my blackberry cracked TWICE and each time these guys were able to save the day by replacing the glass. The turn-around time is also quite fast. A little out of the way but it's the only reliable place in town I've heard that can fix a cracked screen. My Iphone 6 dipped really quickly, upside down (not the end with the headphone jack etc) in a fairly shallow sink full of water but it was enough to short circuit my phone. I put it in rice for 4 hours but it kept turning on and off. It finally turned on but the screen wasn't reacting to my finger and when I turned it off again, it continued to flicker on and off. Panicked, I went to vancell on my lunch break and they charged $10 upfront to take it in. They said that if they could fix it, they would charge the rest later and if they couldn't, I wouldn't have to pay anything else. I asked for a time frame and they said likely in about 1 week. Exactly 1 week later - almost at the exact time I dropped it off, they told me they fixed it and I could come grab it. They were able to suck all the moisture out and fix everything - even the watermarks on the screen were gone. They even charged it fully before they gave it back to me. My experience started off real well, very friendly as there getting your $225. But if something should go wrong they will point the blame in your direction. I would not recommend them. In retrospect the new business of replacing screens has way to high a mark up. A job that doesn't require any long training to do or expensive equipment is charging out at over a hundred an hour. To buy most screens is usually under a $100. I just found out apple care replaces your screen for $80, mind you my phone isn't an apple, Maybe a good reason to switch. read more

What I thought was a damaged charging port from a fall turned out to be junk deep in socket causing the charging cable to fall out. I hope this review will either make the real owner come out and contact me or teach him that you can not disrespect customers especially if all they are asking about is when the part they ordered has arrived. My initial dealing with this store was good in terms of the lady who first assisted me was both helpful and polite which resulted in me giving them a deposit as they did not have the part in stock to repair my phone; this initial visit was on June 27th (Monday). I decided to give them a call today (July 8th) to inquire if the part had arrived. The person who answered the phone was male and I told him that I would like to know if my part had arrived as it has almost been 2 weeks. He asked for my name and once he found the paperwork he then tells me that it hasn't been two weeks but only one and that they told me from the onset that it would take one to two weeks for the part to come in; I responded that I was simply checking in and his response was that it's only one week and reiterated that it takes one to two weeks for parts to come in and that they would call me; this ends the first call. I decided to take a look at the work order and found out it was placed on the 27th which makes it more than 1 week and only 3 days shy of 2 weeks which matches my initial 'almost' 2 weeks statement. I decided to call them back requesting to speak to a manager as I would think they would like to hear about the 'attitude' this individual gives off when dealing with customers. I get the same guy and was told there is no manager and when I pushed it further he simply states that he's the owner and that I should just get a refund. Again this review is to either make the real owner come out or teach this owner that all he had to do was simply reply 'no, your part has not arrived but we will definitely call you once it does'; I'm hoping that whoever reads this from this company takes note of how poor this individuals customer services skills are. Obviously I decided to cancel the repair order as if this is the type of customer service that happens when you are simply asking whether or not your part has arrived, could you imagine the nightmare of dealing with this person's attitude once he has your property in his possession? Could be very scary indeed and again I welcome the real owner to contact me. If anyone is wondering about the validity of this I have both the sales receipt and return receipt as well as a recording with MasterCard regarding this poor experience. Judging from another similar review it appears that 'poor' attitude from this location isn't uncommon. Looks like I wasn't alone with this unpleasant 'attitude'. My charging port broke on my samsung s6, and Jeff was super helpful when I went in. He wasn't pushing me to get it fixed, he let me know that the paint has a chance of chipping (because it is painted gold) and said it was my choice if i still want to go through with it. I like how he informed me of the risks of getting the charging port fixed. I went through with the repair, taking this risk because I would rather just get it fixed than get a new phone (this phone was gifted to me). He told me it would be 3 hours but he finished the repair within 2.5 hours. It is now working perfectly and I am able to charge my phone like normal again rather than using the wireless charging pad that I have been using for the past week (charging pad charges extremely slow!) Brought in 2 phones, my blackberry that had been broken for about a year, and my I-phone with a smashed glass, broken LCD, and a broken home button. They gave me a new glass, lcd, home button, and replaced my frame because she said it was kinda busted, as well as fixed my broken blackberry and I walked out with a case for $170. I normally never write reviews, but this time i wanted share the great experience at VanCell. My power button on my galaxy s2x failed causing my phone to keep shutting down. They've took a look and apparently they weren't able to fix it after several tries, so I kinda lost hope however few hours later, I've got a email saying they've found the problem which was broken resistor behind the power button which caused this problem.
