I loved how they made the classic in to a radio show, it was the perfect choice, I really enjoyed being taken back to an era gone by. The other one was great too, truthful and well preformed. The space is certainly different, but the sets were both so unique, I was amazed to see them work that kind of magic in that space. Sometimes going to the theater feels like taking a risk, I feel confident that next time I come see a show here it will be good one again.

The theatre space sees the audiences seperated into two sides (about 50 seats on each), with the play's action take placing a a comparatively small aisle space in between. The result of this set-up is a heightened awareness of the work's theatricality (one is looking at other audience members, after all), but also a greater sense of involvement, as there is no proscenium or great divide separating audience from actor. The plays presented each season are very well-chosen. The programming always possesses insightful societal relevance or a fascinating explorations of human experience, and almost always manages to do so without sacrificing the humour and delight so crucial to good theatre.

I liked the Theater itself, with nice sight lines, good acoustics, and comfortable seats. The set was well done, enjoyed watching the actors, and appreciated that the play clocked in at 10 minutes less than 2 hours (with intermission). From the viewpoint of a visitor to Vancouver with an appreciation for "Summer Theater", I'd gladly look at their season schedule when I return.

Or that the music by the excellent band Dengue Fever was just played so wrongly, and so terribly, like heavy metal (it isn't). What really bothers me... is that this painful story that involves the Khmer Rouge, and crimes against humanity, and so painful in Cambodian history, is played like a comedy by the Arts Club Vancouver. Shame on the Arts Club and their director for not honouring the real story, the culture, the art, the music, OR the history. It was all just so uncomfortable.

Viewing lines are good and sound travels nicely in this theatre. It's a quaint theatre that probably hosts smaller productions but for its purpose, it's great. Much better than I expected. 4 stars.

We attended Queen Elizabeth Theatre last night, my very first ballet! I had some expectations but the actual performance far exceeded anything I had dreamt up. I was awestruck. It was absolutely splendid! I had no idea ballet would be that entertaining, funny, moving and a such true pleasure to experience. The performers, props, set and costumes are first class! And of course the music.... One of my favourite collections. I was one of the lucky winners of the Yelp Elite & Ballet BC ticket giveaway. I had always wanted to go to this ballet... But the timing had never worked out. So thankful for the amazing opportunity I had last night - thank you Ballet BC and Yelp. I highly recommend this show, 5 stars all the way, I'm already looking forward to attending next year!

I have always wanted to see the Nutcracker, and finally I did…read more I was not disappointed. Set in Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Ballet BC presented Royal Winnipeg's The Nutcracker during December. A perfect show for the winter holidays. Everything was amazing !! The orchestra playing Tchaikovsky was moving. The scenes and costumes were incredibly creative. Watching the ballet was like being in a storybook that has magically come alive before your eyes. A great show for kids, couples, and friends. Definitely will watch again next year !!

Last night,…read moreApril 11th, some friends and I went to see the opening of the Arthur Miller play "Incident at Vichy," which is currently playing at Studio 16 until April 22. We went to support some friends who are in the play. (It's a really good play, by the way. Go see it!) There isn't much to say about the theater--it's a decent little theater, and transit accessible, but, it is REALLY hot in there. Last night, the theatre was so hot (others agreed as well), that I felt feverish. My face was flushed, and several times I pressed my cool water bottle against my face and neck, just to get some relief. (Thank goodness I brought water to drink!) I have no idea how the actors managed with the heat, especially under the bright lights and wearing jackets/warm costumes! [Yelp collections: Theaters]

It's a pretty small and comfortable theatre that makes you feel right apart of the show. Washrooms are up a flight of stairs, and (at least when I went) there wasn't a concession. But there are restaurants nearby. Plenty of paid street parking nearby and some free parking if you don't mind walking a bit. Bike racks nearby and transit accessible.

Three little maids went to see The Mikado at the Metro Theatre…read more. It is an easy process to purchase tickets online through Eventbrite. You can then bring it to the box office and exchanged them for assigned seats. I added my request for my preferred seats with my ticket purchase and the Metro responded back the night before. Love the nice follow through customer service. The box office staff were very efficient in finding my name and exchanging my tickets. The theatre has ample street parking. It is a nice theatre with very comfy seats but the chair back is pretty high. On to the performance.. You really can't go wrong with Gilbert and Sullivan. This is a wonderful production with - elaborate costumes (I was a little confuse why they have a Korean dress at the top of Act 2 for Yum Yum whereas everyone else was in Japanese Kimono?); - great singing by the male lead, what a beautiful voice; - nice choreography - live orchestra After the show, the lounge upstairs is quite large and you can enjoy meeting the cast there. Great place to showcase very talented people.

So, the area?! Well it might be well beyond the border of the scuzzy fringe that sends tourists…read moreretreating into Gastown, but armed with a friend, my phone and boots that would kick your ass--I was headed for the season launch of the Eastside Cultural Crawl. My first time to Firehall Arts Centre I was impressed by how authentically cool it looks from the outside, inside, and backside... and hold on, is that a bar I see? Yes!!! Like any good theatre, liquor is included on the bill! The theatre itself is sizeable, yet still small enough to have that cozy feel to it. There was a rock-ish band playing at the time, but I think to give a true review on the auditorium, I'll have to attend a show! The real win though has to be the couryard! A closed in garden sanctuary, you would never know it exists from the outside! With a couple of levels of terraced patios and a yard below, this was the perfect space for listening to acoustic sounds, some quiet chatter and breathing in a crisp autumn evening... It has the makings of a mid-summer night's moonlit escapades written all over it!
