This impressed us as we know that contractors can be quite picky about their own houses. Bart met with us personally to view our house and discuss roofing options. His certification as a CertainTeed installer meant we would be guaranteed to have their warranty. He was polite, professional, and very detail oriented throughout the entire process. Every step of the way he was respectful to my spouse and I and treated our house as if it were his own. His quotes were also extremely detailed and reassured us both that there would be no hidden costs sprung on us at the end. Whenever we had questions, he was quick to answer and make sure we were informed and satisfied. The installation itself went incredibly smoothly. Bart came by nearly a week before hand to go over prep with us, place boards and protective coverings over our windows, garden, etc. He discussed where he wanted to put the debris trailer, the port-a-potty, and where he and his team would need to place supplies. This left us well prepared and never inconvenienced. We knew exactly when they would be arriving and what to expect. During the installation, due to COVID-19, Bart and his team worked very hard to ensure proper social distancing and contamination issues. At the end, he personally walked us around the house to make sure all the work met both his AND our high standards. He pointed out any potential concerns we might have and addressed them without having to be asked. They also went above and beyond to clean up the debris around the entire yard and even cleaned second story window ledges. They worked all day on a Saturday to get ahead of a serious rainstorm forecast for the next day. In addition, they also replaced the flashing under an exterior door along with some adjacent siding. As often happens, they discovered and fixed some additional problems while doing these repairs, such as a small fix to skylight flashing that (hopefully) solved a leak that wasn't even on their original scope of work. The final cost was only a little more than their original estimate (very reasonable). We were very impressed with AHE's communication and work ethic. We plan to use them again for other work on our aging wood siding house.

When we realized we would not move in for a couple of months I asked the project manager to see if he could separate the quotes and do interior renovations before moving in. This was a "NO" so that 20k of work went to another contractor. Note this was the beginning of January so I assume not a super busy time. By mid March I still did not have a quote/idea on how much addition would cost...not even a ballpark. I was the one that kept calling/checking in to get status update. Needless to say I decided to end discussion. The new company starts work next week. Poor customer service/communication cost this company in excess of $150k of work. Another company is starting work next week. The only reason that I'm posting this is that I'm looking for additional work to be done and realize how much I depend on/look at reviews.

All the workers we dealt with were pleasant and relatively competent. The reason I would not recommend Coastal Contracting is primarily due to the lack of follow through with their one year warranty on materials. Our addition has been completed for about 9 months at this point, and we have had 3 distinct issues come up. Twice the HVAC has failed, and once the shower plumbing was malfunctioning. The first time the HVAC failed was right before the ice storm of early 2026, and we called the installing company to arrange service. They came out promptly and fixed the HVAC (faulty part, but we now had heat!) but we were told that we had to pay out of pocket for repairs since we did not first contact Coastal in writing. Ok. It then failed a second time right before the heat wave of July 4th weekend, so we contacted Coastal. We did get a personal email back after business hours saying that they would contact us after the weekend, which after 2 business days we have not heard from them. Again we did some repairs on our own. The plumbing issue happened between the two HVAC issues, so I was wise to submit my request for service in writing and followed up with a phone call, during which I was assured I would hear back...which I never did. It is just disappointing. Also disappointing were the many mis-ordered parts and vanity that delayed our project, the cut corners that we had to be vigilant about inspecting, and the surprise few thousand dollar increase in fee for a plumbing issue they did not see when they were quoting us. They admitted they didn't look under the house as they should have (I thought we were paying for their expertise?), but assured us that we could be happy that we were still getting a good deal. Maybe these hiccups and lack of communication after they get their check are all normal on a project of this size-I don't have any other point of comparison.
