Sophie was a wonderful guide giving me so much info on the prophet Isaiah that I felt I knew the man. His dedication and devotion to the prophecy was apparent in his artwork. You could feel the passion. Sophie pointed out the symbolism helping me tto see what was hidden in the multitude of color and shapes painted in and on the house. There was so much to take in, every view point looked different. I kept finding new things. I was able to take my time and really look at everything, ask any questions I had and just relax and enjoy the experience. I loved it!

The Niagara Post Theater is inside Fort Niagara State Park. It was originally a movie house for the…read moresoldiers and has been closed since the 1960's when the base closed. It's now in the process of a revitalization project. The theater is currently totally gutted. Today we attended a production of Wizard of Oz which was put on by the Teal Niagara Theatre group with all money raised going toward the revitalization. It was held in the park outside the theater. The play was really nice and a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of local theaters and was happy to hear about this project. I'll be watching to see their progress and what other fundraisers they may have. You can donate and you can take. Everything's free. The women working there are friendly and constantly going through donations and putting them out. I've found some wonderful things here. You never know what surprises you may find. The store is small and filled so it feels crowded at times. The hours are Sunday, Monday and Wednesday's 11am-1pm and Wednesday evening 5-7pm. A real gem.

On Saturday, 10/20/18, I was in need of some last minute medical equipment. On a fluke, I happened…read moreto be in Niagara Falls, NY for an appointment. I asked SIRI for some thrift store suggestions. I chose the second suggestion-Niagara Heritage of Hope and Service. Being only a few minutes away, I took a chance and went there. It was obviously an old Catholic school/church. Feeling nostalgic (and having a sense of deja-vu), I entered the old building and was immediately greeted by a very happy woman and a young man. When I explained my situation, she immediately sprang into action! Within moments, she found a walker with wheels and a quad cane in great condition! During that time, she told me the history of the former church (Holy Trinity) and all the things they do there now. Even though I was short on time, I decided to browse! There literally was something for everyone! The people entering and exiting-they were SO SWEET and full of conversation. There was a young boy who asked (very politely)if there were masks that went with a specific costume. This lovely woman again stopped what she was doing to help him! I was totally impressed! (She was short-handed that day, but she didn't let that overwhelm her!) As for me? I ended up walking out of there with a beautiful afghan and holiday decorations (besides the medical equipment)-and it didn't break the bank!!! When I left the area, it then hit me-I HAD been there years ago! I was a young teacher at that time and had to go there for a training! If you know of someone with a limited income, or if you want to save a few $$, or if you have a sense of appreciation for all things thrifty, this place is worth a look a look (or two or three!) I WILL be back! Please note-they are only opened on Saturdays.

Throughout spring, the little patches of landscaping add a lot of character to the area. A local church group in the area helps run it, although I'm not super clear on how to contribute or join the garden from any signs jogging by it. It's on my regular jogging track. If you ever find yourself in the LaSalle neighborhood in Niagara Falls, maybe if you're walking down to the Amy & Co. coffeeshop from Buffalo Ave, give this place a walkthrough! It's beautiful.

I did some laps around the track and had no trouble finding a treadmill or bike. Over the years, I've frequented LA fitness gyms but I like the pace of YMCA as well. I also downloaded the app on my phone which makes it easy to check-in. They also list the gym hours and class schedules.
