Our family has used Hart's Funeral Home for the last time. In the past, they have always seemed to…read morebe caring. We had a funeral for my uncle on Nov. 13, 2021. They were not caring and very incentive I thought everyone has a bad day or maybe it was because of my emotions I seemed super sensitive about everything. The graveyard is where their true insensitivity came out. As the pallbearers were carrying the coffin to the gravesite, they told us we would need to stick around after the service to lower the coffin in the grave. WHAT? The funeral home employees didn't even help us lower it. They gave us straps, told us how to wrap the coffin handles and then told us what to do. I have asked several people, including pastors, if they had ever heard of something like that. They all said no, and like me they were in utter shock. I called the funeral home today to let them know I was upset with that, and that I thought it was very insensitive. All I got was a "I'm sorry you feel that way". Then they told me that it had been that way at their funeral home for a long time now. I told them it couldn't have been that long because we had my mom's funeral there in April and they didn't ask us to do that. Then it changed to it was just in the last few months they have been doing that. My dad and I paid for his funeral, $3000 of which was for just the "Staff". I am not sure exactly what staff we paid for, because there was only 2 people from the funeral home there, and then a third one to drive the lead car in the funeral procession. $750 was to open and close the grave, not counting everything else. Yet, the family still had to lower a coffin into the grave. The cost isn't even counting every other little overpriced detail you have to pay. I paid Hart's to do a job, that quite frankly they didn't want to pay their employees to do, so we had to do it. I know that the coffin goes in the ground after everyone leaves, but actually seeing it in the ground, and having that be my last memory of my uncle was not something I, or any of his nephews wanted. Our family has used Harts for over twenty years. But to me, this is unforgivable and then to be told "I'm sorry YOU feel that way" is beyond unacceptable. I wasn't told that "I am so sorry that happened" just that they were sorry I felt that way.
