The recipes used need an upgrade for actual taste. Otherwise it is just food to fill your tummy. Honestly I make better pasta dishes at home

I've been to this Vapiano's four or five times over the last five years, and I really like it. It has great seating, great ambience, and great food. I wish that there was an option to not wait in line to order though. Last time I was there, I was really pregnant, and my feet were killing me. Of course, I just wanted my food asap, so I wasn't loving standing and waiting to order. My husband wanted pizza instead of pasta, so if he had waited in line for me, it would have had taken even longer to get our food because he'd have to wait through the pizza line and then the pasta line. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant, and I've done a lot of traveling. My fiancé and I, hungry from exploring Berlin, stumbled upon this place after searching for a few blocks. We thought it would be pretty hard to mess up Italian food, so we just decided to go for it. I tried to order a pizza with artichokes, mushrooms, olives and shrimp (which would replace the ham on that pizza), but the woman taking my order wrote down the wrong pizza on my order. When my pizza arrived with just mushrooms and shrimp, I informed her of this mistake. She took my card, swiped it, and said "Look, you ordered THIS pizza! That's what it says on the card!" as if to say "I told you so, I'M right, you're wrong, so eat your damn pizza!" After a while of this, I gave up and took my pizza, and as I was leaving, she slapped her hands together a few times the way that someone might do if they wanted to clean their hands, and I just felt so dismissed and unheard. After all this, I didn't want my pizza, but I ate it anyway, and let me tell you, it was terrible. The crust was soggy, thin, and undercooked. The sauce had a very basic, uninspired flavor. There was hardly any cheese. It was so disappointing. Definitely not worth the 8.25 euro. When I had finished and it was time to pay, I spoke to the woman (a different woman) who would be processing my payment. I told her what had happened, and she just kept looking at me with an innocent yet condescending look on her face, and when I said "I asked for this pizza, but she gave me a different one", this woman just responded with "Yes, you ordered a pizza! Here, it says on your bill, it says you ordered a pizza!" She had ABSOLUTELY no idea what I was saying, and it was SO frustrating!!!!! I have never been to a place where the staff is so uncaring and unresponsive to the customer, and I have never felt so mistreated. I will never go back again. read more

i wasn't a fan of vapiano's in union square new york and i certainly am not a fan in berlin.. it is super crowded and super everything (super not in a good way) but... at least it had *comfort food when i needed it. if you have a choice - why would you go here? go east.. go west.. go anywhere else! read more

we enjoyed our pasta , the lentil soup was delicious . we tried the local berlin wine . my friends and i enjoyed every minute .

Overall, it is a decent restaraunt. The appearance of cleanliness is good. The restaraunt layout is nice. It is not a good "romantic date" kind of place. The ambience, the mood doesn't flow that way here. This is a loud place, conversations, food, wine, beer. It is set up cafeteria.... assembly line style. Waiters/waitresses do not serve you. You stand in line while your meals are prepared to order right before your eyes. The CHEF staff is always good and willing to make a change from their set recipe to please your particular palate. If you're unsure of something, they will even give you a sample. The food is very good. On this day, my wife had the Insalata Caprese-tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, basil and a Margherita Pizza... for the vegetarian wife.... she loved it. It's simple, but easy on the palate.For me, I had a PROSCIUTTO E FUNGHI 3, 4, 11 ham, mushrooms, tomato sauce, mozzarella with extra chicken and beef. It's a very thin, crispy crust pizza. For the price of it ( dollars to euros ), you'd expect more for what you are paying. But the taste was good. I also tried a salad that had a rasberry dressing. It was a new thing they were "test marketing" that day. This was not my favorite. Basic Pizza and Pasta dishes.... you'll be ok. Go to much away from that basic menu..... I don't think you'll be happy. BARTENDER: I specifically asked for a Captain Morgan and Coke ( Captain Morgan Spiced Rum and Coca Cola..... kinda has a vanilla, creme soda taste, very good when done correctly ). My bartender heard the order and then gave me some white rum from Cuba and coca cola. I tasted it and I explained, this is not what I ordered. He asked me.... "What's the matter, it's not good enough?" Somebody like this, could seriously give a person anger management issues. I could have smacked him through the wall. This pissed me off. Unless it is German beer and some nasty local versions of fresh lemonade, lime ade.... don't order anything too fancy. It would make the guy's brain shut down. My reply, "No it's not good enough, because it's not what I ordered! Further, you could say to me.... excuse me sir, we don't have Captain Morgan, can I substitute something else or serve you something else/" He just blatantly tried to snowball me. I spent $60.00 USD / 48.00 Euros for a couple of pizzas and salads and the drink. In Corporate Germany..... much like Corporate America.... they don't care. Serve as many people as we can.... for the bottom line. Give him a gift card. Overall it lacks sincerity and the semblance of pride to do a good job. I have been to this particular Vapiano's at least 4 times. Each experience is different. It could make you like or hate the place depending on the mood of the staff and their treatment of you. Would not recommend it to my friends or anyone! We accidentally ran in Vapiano after a concert. The location and the restaurant is nice, but that was all what it offered. Either the service or the food could compliment each other. Service was slow but the food was not worth the wait. The cooks are all young and do not look like they have proper training, especially our pasta "cook". She is very unfriendly, she didn't smile at all during her service, and when my husband asked what was the drink, she gave him a you-are-so-annoyed, make-it-quick-and-then-I-can-go-home look and answered shortly. I very agree with one previous post about one always need to heat the pan first and then start cooking. To make our pasta, she just poured the oil in, and immediately threw in the garlic. Then she threw in the pasta and took it out immediately after 2 seconds without seasoning it. The dish looked boring and dreadful. I expected something more in a restaurant like that. I have been here twice over the last year and I was disappointed both times. I used to loooooove Vapiano's and try to stop by every time Im in Europe. I am a pasta person so I order a pasta dish whenever I come. Now my last two visits here the pasta was completely overcooked and this ruins the whole dish. They have also been overwhelmingly busy and this system is not the greatest for these situations. I believe my pasta has been overcooked the last two times because the cook will take my order and another at the same time and just lets the pasta sit above the steam for far too long. There is also zero service here and the prices are as such at a full service restaurant. Their motto is based on a freshly delicious cooked food and if the food is cooked incorrectly this just goes down the drain guys! Pull it together! read more

I have been in many vapianos before. Mostly in not in Berlin. So I was kinda happy to see one of those here too. So I went there with some friends. First optic of those places are nearly the same everywhere thanks to the policies. So everything looks quite familiar. Food: I'd like to have some pasta these days but unfortunately the line in front was so long and it didn't look like that they wanna open a new line soon, so I choose a chicken salat. That was delicious. The chicken well done, the salat fresh with a nice dressing. Atmosphere: the place was very crowded, so there was much noise there, not the perfect way i like to eat dinner but ok. So all in all quite good like i know those vapiano places. only bad point for me was, that it really seems to me that on this day they had not enough staff and thats why there were so long lines in front of cooking places and much dirty dishes all around. Food was ok. Had insane long standing lines (as in you are literally standing for about 45 mins!). It was extremely popular almost every night so I can only think Berlin has a shortage of great italian eateries. It was good pasta and pizza (went 2 nights) and perfect location (right next to Ritz Carlton and the metro), staff was friendly but just not enough of them to keep the orders flowing. read more

I've been to Vapiano several times and always enjoyed their fast service and decent food. Today however was a different story. The cooks have two pans to cool two dishes simultaneously (which is why usually the food is delivered quickly), not so he can use one pan after he finished with another. I really don't think that Berlinale is the right time to hire interns. I would have been fine waiting for 40 minutes if the food had been of its usual quality, however it tastes so bland, I probably would have been better off getting a prepackaged sandwich from Starbucks around the corner. read more

I like Vapiano. Its a cool atmosphere, if a bit touristy. There is a wide variety of pastas and ingredients and everything is prepared right in front of you. This is an inexpensive dinner and the pasta's are really good! I would recommend this place to anyone who likes Italian food. read more

I ordered pasta with meat sauce (ragu) and it tasted pretty good. But later I felt quite sick. My boyfriend ordered a pizza , but after 25 minutes of waiting for it, we left. The portions seemed standard in size and the prices were ok but considering there is basically no service, maybe a bit too high. Overall, I wouldn't recommend the place. Love this place! Very fresh food. Came here frequently before the Berlin Marathon. We ate Caesar salad (very good), Caprese salad (liked when I added salt and pepper), pizza (excellent), pasta dishes were plentiful and filling. Would definitely recommend. read more

Went to Vapiano with a friend (who lives in Berlin) after seeing a film. The place was quite busy and the staff, there to provide you with an order card, clear tables and fill orders, was pretty attentive and friendly. The only exception was this guy who worked there Saturday evening on November 30th,at the pizza station, the last food prep area in the restaurant. The order card system was new to me: you are handed this plastic card and you hand it to the different food stations, depending on what you want to eat. Waiters don't come around and take your order. Normally, the card is taken, swiped at a terminal and handed back to you. You are also given a kind of beeping device that vibrates and lights up to let you know your order is ready. I went to the pizza station and the guy there took his time before coming to serve me. As I don't look like the typical German, he suggested "English?" to which I just smiled and nodded. In broken heavily accented English he quickly said to put the card on top of the terminal. As I didn't quite get what he meant, he grabbed the card from my hand placed it on the terminal and made this funny face to indicate that I must be slow or retarded. At that I told him, in German, that he might try to improve his English before serving clients and it's a good idea to be courteous and friendly if you want people to come back. The pizza was satisfactory but because of him I won't be returning to that restaurant. You can't miss him: sandy blond hair, scrawny, with beedy eyes. read more

Cool consept. When you enter, they give you a card. Then you go to your chosen food "center" (pasta, pizza, burgers, etc). You show your card and pay when you leave. But my pizza was made with no heart and didnt taste a thing. Disappointing. But I guess thats the punishment for going to tourist-joints. read more

Really reaaaally awful food. The pasta is grainy and old and gross. Pizza is undercooked. Prices are way too high. Rude staff. Bad concept that causes lines that are an hour long at ridiculous times during the day(4 pm, late lunch, had to wait at 40 minutes and left when the cook just left without saying a word. Came back for dinner, waited 30 minutes and had the worst dining experience I have had for a while) All in all, completely recommend that you avoid this place. Horrible! read more

Concept of the purshase is unique and is part of the experience, when you walk in you are handed a card and then go to the food preparation station and order your food, then put your card to charge the amount pf the food in there, then after your done walk to the check out and they scan your card and pay. Food is decent. I've gone a couple times, Caesar salad had too much dressing, but that's Germany. Pizzas are excellent. The major drawback to this place is the waits,as others have noted. On our last visit we waited fifty minutes for our food. Not really acceptable. When we brought it up with management we were told some staff had called in sick. For a place of its size, staff absence should be anticipated. My partner saw the set up as being greedy-- unfair to staff who have to work double time to get food out and expecting customers to have unreasonable amounts of time to wait. Unless it's freezing out and I'm looking to kill an hour in line, I won't be back. read more
