We first met Sam and his company when they did the painting for some interior remodeling. They did a great job, so we contacted him again when it was time to repaint the exterior of our house. It was a challenging job, as part of our house is more than 40' above the ground, on a steep slope. They were up to the challenge, Overall, they are responsive and timely, showing up when they say they will and working long days to beat the fall weather. All the prep was thorough -- scraping, sanding, priming, masking etc. -- and they just did a wonderful job. We have been glad to recommend them to friends and neighbors. Sam and his team did an excellent job painting my kitchen cabinets. I'm pretty picky and I can tell you they were meticulous from start to finish. They sanded everything, patched seam and other dings in the wood, applied (sprayed) two coats of primer and three coats of paint, and still left the most clean worksite of any contractors I've hired. The crew arrived promptly at 8 am each morning, and Sam also communicated with me every day to let me know when the guys were leaving and what was coming next. Imagine that you want to paint your house - you'd be very careful, very meticulous, make sure everything was exactly how you wanted it. Now imagine you get that except you didn't actually have to do any of the work. That's what Sam and his crew give you - they're are careful as you would be but they're actual professionals. We are very pleased with our experience with Variform. The price was reasonable. They started and finished when they said they would. All of our windows were masked and covered. This may sound obvious but the last time we had the house done, our windows had paint oversprayed on them. Great care was taken to cover our landscaping and sidewalks. Ladders and other equipment was tided up each night. The painters left not a trace of trash or litter. They were pleasant and polite. And, of course the job was very well done. We were previously working with a general contractor on reconstruction after black mold mitigation, and the crew we hired took a really long time to do a very bad job. We ended up hiring several new contractors to fix the shoddy work and added damage. We contacted Variform about redoing the awful paint job -- they provided a very competitive estimate and, despite the busy time of year (lots of people getting exterior painting done in the dry summer months), they said they could squeeze our little job in on the weekend. During our initial walkthrough, we could tell Sam really knew his stuff, and throughout the process he communicated well, did everything he said he'd do, and was always on time. One other guy from Sam's crew took on most of the job, but Sam stopped in regularly to check in on things. The work they did was excellent, and they had great attention to detail -- they offered to fix things we hadn't even noticed or thought to ask about!  One of the biggest tasks was repainting our kitchen ceiling, which had terrible texturing. Sam and his guy were dissatisfied with their first attempt at improving it, and offered to paint it again at no extra charge (although we appreciated their skill and professionalism so much, we paid them extra anyway). The end result was a vast improvement. And the cherry on top --by the end of the job, our home was left cleaner than when they started! After the nightmare experience leading up to our contacting Variform, it was such a huge relief to work with people who really know what they're doing and clearly care about the quality of their work. We've already recommended Variform to one of our friends, and we would definitely call them again for any future painting work. read more

Ned and his crew are the real deal. Best painters I have come across! I am in Real Estate and I am happy to refer them to clients. They take their time making sure that everything is done right the first time. They are prompt, pick up all of their stuff and are super nice on top of everything else! We can't be more pleased with Variform Painting - their management and entire painting crew have exceeded all of our expectations. We have used a long list of painters in the past and found them to be repeditively late, lacking attention to detail, and just looking for a quick shot of revenue before heading to the next job. Variform Painting painted my 1904 stucco house 3 years ago and did a FANTASTIC job. The paint job looks like it will last a very long time. Ned was very patient and good natured in helping us fine tune our color scheme and then he and his crew were meticulous about the preparation which is essential for a thorough job. Wow, these guys are good! They just finished painting the exterior of my house (the white parts). I have a brick house with white dormers and white wood windows. I got 5 bids and Variform was the only one that actually addressed the issue that there might be lead-based paint on the house (built in 1945). Of the 5 bids, they were the 2nd highest, but after seeing how long it took to sand, clean, prime and paint I think I got a bargain. Ned explained how they use Hepa vacuum sanders and put plastic down so that no paint chips fall into the dirt to contaminate it, etc. Besides all the care in case there was lead based paint, the guys were polite and every day they cleaned up after themselves and put everything away. Each morning they started at 7:30 am promptly and worked hard throughout the day, not taking short cuts. The also took care after I washed all my storm windows not to get them dirty. I cannot recommend Ned and his team enough. They were professional and worth every single penny, actually probably worth more. If you want a job done right and the paint job to last, get Ned and his team. They are worth it. read more

I bought my Queen Anne Craftsman ("an old battleship of a house" as it was once called) in 2001, and selected Variform Painting to completely re-do the exterior in 2002. Got 4 bids on the job, and Ned Trimming's was not the cheapest, but he gave me good confidence that they would work with me as we discovered the inevitable surprises in a job that big. Since then, I've hired them four more times, including painting the interior first and third floors, the glass-enclosed front porch, the decking and steps on three sides of the house. and a complete re-painting of the exterior in the summer of 2013. The job they did 11 years earlier still looked great, up close and from afar, but I didn't want to tempt fate. On the final day, I told the crew boss (Jason) and the primary painter (Samuel) that I should give them artists' brushes so they could sign their names to the completed work. And the original reason for selecting Ned was once more borne out - no job of this size & scope is free of surprises. In each instance over the years, Ned and his team identified the issue(s) and proposed alternatives as well as their recommended solution. A homeowner cannot ask for a better business relationship. The guys at Variform make you feel secure and informed, as if it were their own home they are working on. They accommodate your schedule and priorities, are intensely reliable, keep their promises, are meticulous about cleaning up and keeping your yard & gardens undamaged by their work, and ultimately make your property *pop* in appearance.
