We had Varney and Sons clear 23 acres for us in Madbury, doing a combination of both clear cutting as well as selective cutting, and we could not have been happier with their work. They were on our property cutting for over a month, and during that time we worked with several family members and a few of their employees who ran the equipment. Everyone was friendly, thoughtful, and very respectful of the fact that they were on our land right next to our house with the equipment. When we first met with them, they walked the property and laid out a few different options for what we could do, the timeline, and the paperwork/process for getting it done. They even had us look at another site they were clearing in Barrington so we could see how the land would look and the quality of their work. We had some areas on our property that were classified as poorly drained soil, and we also abut a Class 6 road on one side, so they took care of all the town/state filing paperwork and permits to make sure we did everything by the book, which was a huge help. They were fully transparent about every piece of the process, even providing all of the paperwork from the mills showing what trees (and how many) they were cutting each week. They also made sure to leave enough trees that we kept privacy around the property lines. Prior to leaving, they met with us to make sure we were happy with the way they left the land and everything was satisfactory. WARNING Do not use this company or the owner's son's tree removal "service". (The son's name is Dalton Varney.) The damage and mess left behind is not only dangerous to the homeowner but also costs several thousand dollars to repair and clean up. This "small" detail is conveniently undisclosed at the time of the business "agreement". He attempts to hide it by claiming the tree removal is "free". NOTHING IS FREE. My mother's property is a case in point. (Please see posted photos and videos.) We've now been left with no other choice but to involve lawyers. I've been told Bedford Tree Service is a much better option. Whichever company you choose, just don't let it be Varney & Sons Logging or Dalton Varney. **Re: the comment below. And threatened you? Only with legal action. Which I suggest you look into yourself because our lawyer has quite the case against you. I was very pleased with Varney Sons and Logging. Free tree removal is what the company offers, Samantha H., so if you didn't want to do any kind of WORK for something that could potential cost you thousands. You should of paid someone to do it. Suck it up Buttercup! I would highly recommend this company, I'm not saying there won't be a mess but 1. They didn't hit any of my belongings 2. They were done within 9 hrs 3. They tried to keep it all the brush in one area by dropping the trees with precision 4. And most of all Dalton Varney was very crafty, attacking one tree at a time to ensure it landed where he wanted too. Plus, Frank Varney was a pleasure to work with and talk to. We couldn't be happier with the job done by Varney and Sons. Our home was surrounded by half dead, huge, dangerous pines rendering much of our yard unusable. Randy was amazingly skilled and very professional. Jackson was very upfront with us about the free service provided. He was very clear that this process would leave a mess behind as they are not a tree removal or landscaping company. We cannot conceive what it would have cost to have paid a tree removal company to do the work Randy did in less than a week. We have quadrupled our yard space that is now full of sunshine! I took advantage of the free tree removal and was very happy. Yes there is a mess to clean up after but I knew that going in. My driveway is gravel and yes there were some ruts left behind from the equipment, I took care of them in a few hours. If you have a paved driveway that these heavy vehicles need to cross then this may not be a solution for you. In my case it was a perfect solution to removing some trees without paying a fortune, yes there will be work to do after.
