Great service! But be careful. When you sign up the payment for your plan is reoccurring without notice. My daughter signed up, she thought, for 3 months to study for a particular test (TEAS). She completed the 3 months and passed the test! The service was great, however, they billed me after she was done. I tried to get my $600.00 back but they replied (Call center in India I believe) that we did not cancel our membership. My daughter did verbally but that was not recognized and they will not refund my $600.00. So, the low rating is for billing and customer service, not the actual tutors. I do not recommend this company. I had many issues with my tutor and the way the company handled situations. I have been contacting them for OVER two months to get things resolved and I feel as if my review is deserved at this point. For some context, here is my message from July 21st 2023 after my last session. "I am very frustrated with Varsity overall. I thought this would be a lot smoother of a process. I left a review a couple sessions ago but decided to call again and follow up/get some things fixed. When signing up I told them my frustrations with School of PE being across the country and the fact that it did not make them as flexible as someone within the same time zone. I told them in my initial call my availability and my matched tutor was not available during those times. I wish knew I had to bring my own materials when I started. I have taken the exam with the materials I had before and not passed, so I wish there was more. I spent over 4k on 40 hours and he kept pushing me to spend $1,000+ on School of PE. End sessions early and not work on problems or continue to the next topic, we ended up not getting through everything that I had. My tutor over charged me a lot I reached out online and apparently nothing was done/recorded, and it took SEVERAL calls over weeks to fix it, when they said they would call me back the next day and never did. In fact, after all of this frustration voiced, he overcharged me at the end again. - Friday July 15 session was 2 hrs. & 39 mins - charged 3 hours - Wednesday July 19th was 1 hr. & 58 mins - he charged 5 hours I understand he should get compensated for his time and I am comfortable with the 2 hrs. 45 mins and 2 hrs. being charged but I will note that he just sat back and watched me do questions for an hour in each of those sessions, sometimes with his camera off. When I said he could time me for one question and we can review it so he was more involved, which I suggested more than once, he shot the idea down. During those calls I used my work phone once, they told me it was saved as to link to my account if I called from there but to call my cell phone but the calls I got over the last few days to check in what I want to do with my hours were all on my work which is somewhat inappropriate to have a lot of personal calls / leave voicemails on and I can get in trouble. During our sessions he would scroll though slides and tell me to read things on my own I'm assuming because he did not want to go over it. He would take 20+ mins to solve a problem during my tutoring time, then sometimes skipping the problem at that time and never going back to it in the next session after he takes time to figure it out. He would not remembering what exam I am even studying for every session. Saying "you should know this" may be a personal problem but I discussed with him my test anxieties the first day we met and it makes it really embarrassing when I get stuck or need help. In the end he was not able to make up all of my hours and ended our session asking if I could delay my exam, which again did not help my test anxieties. Overall, I took my exam yesterday and I did not feel fully prepared. In regards to those extra hours he was not able to make up/schedule, somehow when he still charged them... I'm expecting to get them back, I'm not sure what I want to/can do, really I don't think this service helped much and I thought I would get a lot more out of $4,000+ than I did, I regret signing up and I truly think I deserve compensation for this, whether it is (some/all of) my money back or a new person to take time to go through material with me if I don't pass or if I do someone new to go through PE material to prove the company doesn't deserve this awful review." I was contacted back a couple days later and told that they recognize my issues and would address them as they have been changing staff frequently. In regards to the tutor overcharging me, they would do a full review of every session I had with him and give me the hours back I paid for and then refund me as I signed up at the time, they offered refunds. Following up the next week I was told it was going to take a little longer and she also now was not sure if she could give me my money back and would need to submit for manager approval and would contact me August 19th. That day came and went and 4 days ago I called, no answer, so I sent another email to both the person I had been talking to and the general email. Two days later I got an email saying someone would contact me that day, nothing, then an email with an invite to meet with the person I had been talking to, great! When she called today, late, she did not even take the time to look at my name (I think she would remember being on the phone with me for 5+ hours), my email or my account and said she wanted to follow up on how things were going with tutoring and asked if I had taken my exam?! I had to explain to her everything all over again. read more

This was a great place to get help with Calculus II. Everything was online (I've they also do in person if you live in the area) and easy to use. During the sessions there's a white board to document the problems work and after they send a link to review those document and the video recording of the tutor and you working the problems. They only complaint I had was sometimes the documents would get cut off at the bottom. My tutor, Charles Walker, was awesome patient and kind. He knew his stuff on the when it came to Calculus and I would recommend him to anyone struggling with Calculus. read more

When the first did not work out, they quickly were able to find an even better in person tutor as well as online tutor. We meet with Caesar several days a week at our home and he is absolutely fabulous! He captivates the children's attention and uses all types of learning materials - laptop, singing, books, their toys, etc. Joanne is our online tutor and she also does a great job in engaging with the children. I was worried about the children being able to concentrate for that long on the computer, but she uses toys, instruments, songs and "prizes" to keep them engaged. My daughter utilized Varsity Tutors solely for the purpose of getting help with her college admissions essays. This service was invaluable and well worth the money in our opinion. She really meshed well with her tutor and was able to get real time edits and suggestions on the essays. The tutor helped with brainstorming for topics to write about down to the final edit/grammar check before submission. Varsity Tutors is easy to get started with. The first time we used them my son's ACT score improved 3 points. The second time we used them the score dropped back to original score. We decided to focus only on math section and it had no effect. Not sure if that was the tutors inability to instruct my son or my son not connecting with the material. The second tutor was a very bright college student. The first tutor was a seasoned teacher. I think that made the difference. read more

Varsity Tutors was an expensive mistake. As we found over several months, most of the VT tutors have limited knowledge of their subject and have no teaching/tutoring experience. Yet when you sign up, you are required to purchase a minimum number of expensive tutoring hours. If the tutoring doesn't work out for any reason, you are stuck. Our tutor did not have enough mastery of the content to teach a subject as targeted as AP Biology. VT tried to find a second tutor but couldn't. If you need tutoring, I would suggest asking your friends, neighbors, teachers for recommendations or using a free platform such as Khan Academy. read more

I have been using Varsity Tutors for two years for my now 6th grade daughter. We had a fantastic experience while she was in 5th grade with a tutor that was thorough, caring and supportive. Pretty immediately we saw a significant increase in her grades and she achieved honor-roll all year! This year we started with a solution that wasn't working the best for our daughter and after I provided the feedback to Varsity Tutors they immediately responded with an option for a new tutor and she has been fantastic! My daughter is much more confident and is doing significantly better. VT really listened to what my daughter needed and provided exactly that.
