Miko's Guest House on Vashon island is a wonderful retreat complete with a private outdoor hot tub. The house is cozy with a wood burning stove, kitchen, and shower and the most relaxing bed. Karen, the owner, put together a welcome basket with wine, cheese, bread, coffee, and other local goodies. Of course, the best part was the hot tub. A day of soaking released a few months of stress. There was even a beautifully set table for two waiting for us, and a well-equipped kitchen. Miko's is a perfect spot for two people to settle in for a romantic, peaceful getaway. We celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary there just a few days before Christmas, and look forward to returning.

Conveniently located and with a friendly, yet non-intrusive, host Judith, the Farm was a very relaxing and much-needed break from the monotonous stress of Covid life in the city. Five stars all around for me. With that said, I have to STRONGLY take issue with Linda S.'s review below, due to the incredibly enjoyable experience I had. I will address each complaint: a. It does not smell musty. It is an old house, what are you expecting it to smell like, a god-blessed perfume store? b. It's Vashon island. Nobody is gonna steal your stuff, Linda. And if you are so concerned, you can take valuables with you in the car you undoubtedly arrived in while away from the cottage. c. There is most certainly a latch on the bathroom door. d. There is a wall in the closet. Also even if there wasn't, when doors are closed, they are like a wall. The barn does not have people in it while you are sleeping anyways. e. This charming accommodation is run by a single proprietor. I'm not sure why Linda expected meal service in a rustic cottage on an island. Nowhere is the claim made this will be the case. I think the "you make both" joke is hilarious, I wish it were still there. f. Leaving the first dang night? Give the place a chance. Thank you for reading. The owners, Sue and Scott, were friendly, respectful of our privacy, and very flexible and accommodating with regard to our arrival and departure times. When we arrived, we found a welcome basket with fresh fruit, muffins, bread, and chocolate! The fridge was also stocked with eggs, yogurt, and milk. It was lovely to be able to wake up in the morning and make breakfast in the kitchen without having to go to the grocery store first! The property itself is very scenic. We enjoyed visiting with the horse, and also loved the large vegetable garden! Sue and Scott gave us full access to the garden, and our second morning there, we picked shallots and kale from the garden to add to our scrambled eggs! We were fortunate to find this spot for our stay on Vashon Island (we were there for a wedding), and were so pleased!

There is nothing available now, this was my last resort in the first place and now I am stuck. I'm in 12 hour work days on Saturday and Sunday and desperately need somewhere to stay so I don't have to tack a 2 hour commute to the beginning and end of my days. And now I am left with no option and 16 hour days. The explanation was "emergency situation", which is exactly what I'm now left with. Since booking, the experience has not been great. I booked via phone on 7/29 and was asked to send a check immediately, so I waited for an email. 4 days later when I was on vacation for my birthday I followed up and was finally given the information. She wanted me to mail a check the next day, but I didn't bring a checkbook on vacation, so I had to do the next best thing and utilize Bank of America's online system to mail a check. This usually takes a week since it's considered "bill pay". I was informed the check was delivered August 9th, and the money came out of my bank account, but she said it was not received. Not a huge deal, just had to call the bank and cancel it, so I sent another check. I had been waiting to hear that it arrived when I am woken up with a text this morning that my reservation is cancelled. So now my husband and I are scrambling and I have no idea what to do. We've already paid our pet sitter and he took the next 2 days off work. Losing money and being stuck is not a fun situation to be in.

We stayed in the Arbor Cottage because it was separate from the other rooms and was its own cottage. There was a nice little deck to enjoy, too. Perfect for playing a board game if you find that kind of thing romantic (maybe we are strange that way...). A jacuzzi is always nice, too. I don't recall this place costing as much when we went a few years back, so $175 seems a little high, but if you've got it to spend, this is a beautiful place to spend it, and taking the ferry to Vashon Island and just driving around is fun, too.

They are literally right on the water on Puget Sound and couldn't be more relaxing. You can walk on the beach, take a dip in the water, or relax indoors. Shops and restaurants in downtown Vashon are a ten minute drive. Take a hike or a drive, or just enjoy the privacy of the historic homes. I stayed in quarters A--three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a huge kitchen, glorious windows looking out onto the sound, and a porch where you can rest in rocking chairs or watch kids collecting shells. This is a perfect getaway a short ferry ride away from Seattle or Tacoma.

Biggest issue is parking: You can not park close to the house and you have to unlock a gate to drive into the property then lock it behind you. There is no path lighting. It's dark and very quite. It's not my thing but on an island where there are no hotels, taking a chance on an Airbnb or VRBO is a crap shoot. I guess I just felt like I was in my grandmas house trying to find a comfortable place to chill. After fees and cleaning costs it was over $ 500 for two nights. Check in at 4pm and check out at 11am. No extended check out offered. Seems a bit steep, but...at least it isn't a BnB.

I've gone lavender picking before at some other places, but I wanted to try somewhere new and a…read morelittle bit closer to home. To get here from Seattle you have to take the Fauntleroy ferry to Vashon Island but we headed there pretty early in the morning and we had no problems getting onto the ferry with our car (On the way back from Vashon however, we saw a bunch of people heading to Vashon in the afternoon. The ferry line for vehicles was crazy backed up, so I would not recommend going too late!) After arriving at Vashon, it's about 20 or so minutes to the Lavender Hill Farm. This place is super cute! From what I could observe, it looks like a beautiful private residence with its own little giant farm attached. What made this place stand out from the rest is that there were so many varieties of lavender that I had never heard of before. They had some interns there, helping to pick lavender and make bouquets/wreaths who did a great job of educating us on the different types of smelling lavender and cooking lavender. They also had a bunch of premade lavender products. Personally, I always go for the little lavender bags and use them in my laundry -- they last forever, and they smelled great. They had these scented roller balls each with a different type of lavender, it smelled absolutely amazing. If I am remembering correctly, there were also lotions, balms, incense, even pre-cut cooking lavender, and I believe there was even lavender soda for sale. I was able to purchase everything easily using contactless pay. I believe I had a conversation with the owner of the farm (not 100% on that though) and she was quite lovely. This place is dog friendly as you can see from my pictures, however, they also have a farm dog of their own so just be mindful of that. If you love to Instagram, or taking pictures, this place is definitely for you -- and if you like lavender, of course, you should definitely come here! It seems like their season has already ended so I'm guessing it's open for a very short window in the early summer, but if you have the opportunity to go next summer, I would recommend it!
