This is the first time I've gone shoe shopping and haven't been embarrassed or felt bad for having feet problems (I have bunions on both sides of my feet). In fact, they made me feel normal and better about my feet than I have in years. Back around Christmas I went in to find a pair of shoes to wear to work since I'm on my feet all day and need the support and Brad, the owner, listened to everything I was hoping to find in a shoe and had the color I wanted shipped to my house. I wore them to work everyday and had way less feet, knee, and back aches. I just went in this week after making an appointment and Brad helped me find the perfect trail running shoe to accommodate my wide feet! The owners were MORE THAN gracious & allowed me to exchange them. Graham took time to measure my foot, make recommendations & even cut insoles in half to find the PERFECT fit for me! The staff at Vaux went above and beyond today helping my 82 year old mother find a pair of shoes which will provide better stability and increased traction. The staff member (I'm sorry I didn't ask his name) was so patient as he helped her try on multiple pairs of shoes and then spot stretched the one she ultimately chose in order to accommodate her bunions and such. I've been in here several times over the years. I think they know their stuff, and can help you find a shoe that fits your needs. The owner has a little bit of a reserve that has made me feel unwelcome in the past. But he directed me to Silverheels once when I was looking for a Birk he didn't carry, and I was able to find the shoes I wanted. This last week he helped me find some shoes that I feel very happy with for walking. I brought my man in yesterday, because he's been having foot pain and complaining about his shoes. A different employee helped my husband try on several pairs that all felt good. But then he pulled my husband's insoles out of his old shoes and swapped them out for some he had put in the new shoes, and made him try that. Since that seemed to fix the problem, we bought the insoles. Husband was pleased not to have to buy more shoes, and I was pleased they could help him walk without pain. The insoles were expensive, but a lot cheaper than new shoes. We've been buying insoles for years -- but without knowledge. What makes this place unique is their extensive knowledge of what feet need, and their own products. Tell them where it hurts, what you want to do in the shoes, what you love, and what you hate in a shoe. Let them measure you and bring out their suggestions. read more

Was a regular customer here. Spent over $400 in less than 6 months. Owner /management is paranoid & egotistical. The son of the owners is completely out of touch and temperamental. Very unprofessional. High drama. I was shopping with a friend, when I was accused of online shopping in the store. I was simply looking at product information for my friend who had a question on the shoe that the owner was not able to provide. I originally brought this customer into the store because I have purchased shoes here before on multiple occasions. After this experience , I've decided not to go into the store ever again. I went into this local, family-owner shoe store today. The woman was knowledgeable and helpful. I left with a pair of quality sandals that have good arch support. The son is a runner, would be helpful if you are one as well. I am more of a walker. Generally, this is a good business and seems reliable. One small thing was disturbing. We purchased expensive shoes 8 months ago. The guy selling them said they stood behind the 1 year warranty as I had problems with my work shoes not lasting long. After 8 months, one of the toes started peeling away, one of the heels started peeling away and the sole attached to the shoe started peeling away. I stopped in the store to discuss these defects with who appeared to be the owner. He said nothing was wrong with the shoes and refused to help me any further. I ended up contacting Keen and sending them a letter with pictures and they honored their warranty on the shoes. I decided I would buy locally, so I went to this store instead of the big, chain stores. I love Brooks shoes and they carry them, so I figured this would be perfect. I found the right pair of shoes, but they didn't have the color I wanted. Not a big deal. I ordered the color of shoe I wanted. One week after ordering the shoes, I didn't hear from them, so I called. They said it would be a few more days. 15 days after ordering the shoes, I still hadn't heard from them. I called them to check the status of my order. A gal answered the phone and I asked her about my order. She told me the shoes got in four days ago. She also told me they called and left a vm on my phone, which they did not... I checked after I got off the phone just to make sure.... Nothing. I went to the store to get my shoes, but the shoes they had ordered me were not the ones I wanted ordered or thought were ordered. They were the wrong size and type. The lady working there attempted to convince me they were the right shoes. I aaured her they were not. Needless to say, I was frustrated by the whole experience. I walked out of that store, drove to Dick's, and purchased the exact shoes I waited for for 15 days. The salesperson at Dick's was super helpful, too, which is much more than I can say for the people at Vaux Shoes. I will not be going back to Vaux. read more
