My 14 year old dog who had been declining in health was acting very differently one day, enough so to bring him into an emergency vet at night. I was met by Justin at the door for a quick assessment, as I couldn't go into the clinic because of covid regulations. Justin was very compassionate and understanding of my dog's situation, and I felt at ease as I watched them go back into the clinic. I went to sit in my car and wait for the update from inside. My phone rang and It was Dr. Birch on the other end, he said I needed to come inside to talk which I knew meant the worst. Dr. Birch explained to me what was going on inside the abdomen of my dog, how it was affecting his body, and that it was a terminal situation. He still laid out a gradient of options from taking him to a specialist at the U of M to putting him to sleep that night. I was very grateful for his honesty in offering up all the solutions he did. But we both agreed for a 14 year old dog in his situation putting him to sleep was the best possible outcome. I couldn't do it that night without the family saying good bye. The next day I called my normal vet to see if I could take him there for his final appointment, as he'd been going there for the last 7 years and I wanted them to be a part of it. They couldn't, or wouldn't, make time for me and my dog for at least 3 days. This was very disappointing to me. That day I came home from work and my dog had declined further, and I made the decision to bring him in overnight to have him put to sleep. At 10 PM, I was met by Justin again at the door as I carried my dog in. His genuine compassion to my dog again was apparent, but it was also extended towards me as he told me what the process would be. He then took my dog to the back to put a port in his leg for the shots. This was something different from when I've done this before. For me it meant my dog would only be stuck by 1 needle, not the 3 or 4 they actually use. When they came back, Justin put down the plushest fleece blanket on the table I'd ever seen. They then gave me all the alone time I wanted before Dr. Birch came in. Once again Dr. Birch was a true professional explaining to me what was about to happen, and how my dog would react. And he gently petted my dog the whole time to help ease him as I said good bye and he slipped into his sleep. Dr Birch left and they then gave me all the time I wanted alone to say good bye myself. One last time Justin came in offering his condolences and wrapped my dog in that huge soft blanket and took him away. I was offered time to sit in the room as long as I wanted, but all I had to do was simply walk out of the clinic alone. S M A E C thank you for your services, hours, and location. People don't bring their pets to you for the fun regular stuff, it's got to be a whole different world at your clinic from dusk to dawn. I appreciate that to the fullest. Justin and Dr. Birch, Thank You doesn't even start to cover the appreciation I have for you two! The whole experience I had was only 24 hours long. But the good memories I have of one of my worst times will forever be in my mind. Thank You, Rob and Braden

It seemed like he was having trouble breathing. They refused to let me come in with him. I told them I think my dog is dying and they seemed to have no compassion and basically said there wouldn't be anything they could do anyway. I can understand it might have been better to go somewhere that has 24-hour monitoring/hospitalization, but I didn't know that at the time. It was the complete lack of empathy and caring to explain that has me leaving this review. It's like they just wanted me to get off the phone. And our dog died the next morning. Rest in peace, Vinny

We would not recommend this Vet for any treatment of any animal for any reason. He has turned our…read morelives upside down. After my husband and I had our first child, we moved from Mpls in 2022, into a new home in Burnsville. With all the excitement, we decided to get a puppy. We found a very reputable breeder of Golden Retrievers through friends. At this point our life was so perfect we couldn't be happier. New home, new baby, new puppy. The American dream was falling into place. After a yr we thought we should take our precious puppy in for her first checkup. A neighbor recommended Dr Hunt at the Palomino Hospital-Clinic in Burnsville. Before the appointment we researched vaccinations for animals & found they're not all necessarily intended to help animals, some can potentially harm them & even cause death. When we brought this up to Dr Hunt, he became very defensive & appeared almost angry as if we were out of line for even questioning vaccines. He assured us that they were not harmful & that our puppy would be just fine. So, with some reservations, we put our faith & trust in him. Little did we know this would have devastating consequences. A few weeks before XMAS of '25 our beautiful retriever became sick. She was losing weight, had no energy & couldn't keep food down. She was getting worse by the day. We were dumbfounded. She had impeccable lineage, was fed the finest foods & exercised daily. We researched her symptoms and found it could be the results of vaccinations. The only vax she ever had where the ones Dr Hunt had guaranteed us were so safe. We immediately took her to a new vet at a new clinic. Our worst nightmare was coming true. After a battery of tests, it was confirmed. Our baby had cancer. It was terminal. With this diagnosis, and the info we supplied, the Dr agreed, it certainly could have been caused by the vaccinations she got as a pup. How do you tell your 4yr old child her beautiful dog is dying & we have to euthanize her because you trusted a bad vet. Dr. Hunt from Palomino Hospital/Clinic must be one of the most unprofessional Dr's we've ever encountered. The biggest regret of our life was not leaving when we got so much resistance when asking questions about the vax. It felt as if he was hiding something and trying to keep us from asking more questions. We thought we may have been over cautious, but in hindsight we were right on point. If we knew then, what we know now, we would have never taken our baby to that evil man. He destroyed the emotional fabric of our new beginning, in our new home, with our first child. We can't stop crying over the devastating loss of our beautiful pet that we loved like our child. It is going to take a long time to get thru this bad experience. We seriously beg anyone thinking of using the Palomino Clinic, to not. If you already are, please find someone new. He is dangerous. He is not a nice person & not the kind of professional you want treating your family pet. The neighbor that recommended him is horrified. Please make the right decision. GOD BLESS!!!

Over the last few years…read moreI have experienced the service go from great to nothing but a cash grab preying on people's ignorance of their pets health. I travel a lot with my little senior dog who is my emotional support, and the traveling kept us with Banfield longer than I liked- but the service got so bad everywhere I went, I was going out of my way to avoid Banfield and pay extra money/time to see local vets. My contract with Banfield was expiring and I had no intention of renewing it. Then my little senior dog needed emergency service and this was the only location that had an opening that day so I caved and took him in prepared to fight off fear tactics and money grabs. I was incredibly relieved when Dr.Mazula took the time to listen and answer my questions so I could make the best decision for my dog. He was patient, kind and warm hearted the way vets used to be. He took time to earn my TRUST. It made me feel confident in the type of care he would give and his recommendations. Because of Dr. Mazula's proven care and thoughtfulness after several visits. I signed a new contract and commute an hour out of my way to come to this location to see him specifically. Yes- there is another location much closer to me- but I refuse to go to vets I don't know when my dog is a senior and needs special care now. I'm don't fighting this broken system of corporate greed and exploitation of us all. So I am sticking to PEOPLE I like and trust. Not companies. Dr.Mazula earned this 5 star rating. I recommend him wholeheartedly. This is NOT a recommendation for Banfield in general. They need to get their act together and learn to value people over money. Thank you Dr. Mazula. I'm glad we found you when we needed a good vet the most.

Today was my first--and last--time using Banfield, and I never even got the chance to be seen…read more I scheduled an appointment online at 8:30 this morning for 2:30 with Dr. Yndestad. I received a text confirmation and arrived early at 2:00 to complete any necessary paperwork as a first-time client. Upon checking in, the tech informed me that my appointment wasn't on the calendar. When I mentioned I had booked online, she casually responded, "Oh yeah, this happens." When I expressed my frustration, she deflected, saying they were understaffed and that two people had called out, so her day wasn't going well either. When I asked about alternatives, she dismissively told me, "Yeah, it does that, there's nothing we can do. You should take him to the emergency vet... or I guess he could wait here to see if he could be seen." There's a reason we took him to a regular vet and not an emergency vet--we didn't believe the situation was urgent enough for emergency care but didn't want to wait until later in the week for our usual vet. We were even considering switching to Banfield for all three of our animals, as it's significantly closer than our current vet. However, after this experience, we will gladly continue to drive the extra 30 minutes just to avoid ever trusting Banfield with our pets. And it wasn't just us. By happenstance, another woman behind me believed her appointment was at 2:00 but was told it was actually at 2:30. She seemed confused and unaware of the time change--another scheduling confusion? Wow. This experience was completely unacceptable. If the tech had shown any sympathy or offered an apology beyond dismissive comments, it might have been different. Instead, she made the situation entirely about their inconvenience, not ours--the paying customers with sick pets. It's outrageous that your online scheduler continues to cause issues, and your solution appears to be complaining to customers rather than addressing the root problem. If Banfield is so understaffed, hire more people. If you can't hire more people, maybe you're not offering competitive wages. Your operational failures should never become the burden of your customers. I am beyond disappointed, and I will never be using your company again.

Last week, my cat did suddenly fall ill. I'd never had a sick pet before, and was immediately panicked on what to do. I always brought my cat, Toast, to Dakota Vet for all his regular appointments so at the very least, I knew to start there. All his past appointments at Dakota Vet were fantastic. The staff are so sweet and truly care about animals. They don't try to overcharge you or make you feel bad/pressured about what to do. They understand how hard it can be to manage a sick pet. When I brought him to Dakota Pet again for his illness, I experienced the same thing. The staff were awesome at helping me talk through his symptoms and determine the best solution for him. They explained everything they did, every step of the way, which I really appreciated. They put up with my mother and I calling to make sure we knew what was going on and were extremely patient with answering all our questions (and we had a lot lol). Dr. Reinicke was great at caring for Toast and helping figure out what may be going on. She provided lots of options, talked through each of them, and handled Toast fantastically. I really appreciate Dakota Vet for helping my cat and I during the uncertainty of his illness. I'm happy to say that he's improving now, and I can't thank Dakota Pet enough for all their help!
