Our dog, Roscoe, had a recurring ear infection that continued to bother him after we moved to Minneapolis. Our new apartment smelled like a microbrewery. A canine ear infection is unmistakable. Kenwood was the closest Vet and could get us in the soonest. The people were lovely, the space clean, and the doctor efficient. She explained everything in detail. This is by far the best Vet clinic in the metro area. All of the veterinarians are extremely knowledgable and expert in providing a full range of care to our dogs and cat. Dr Turino performed successful tightrope surgery on both knees of one of our dogs, restoring full use of her legs at half the cost and half the recovery time of other knee fix surgeries recommended to us by other vets. The tech staff is also outstanding and the office staff makes every effort to provide service that is superb. And everyone is super nice. I would give this business zero stars if I could. A horrible experience that happened to my wife and I last Friday. We drove to Kenwood Pet Clinic to drop our dog Tovi off for a surgical procedure on both of her back legs. While my wife Nora was waiting in the car for me to come out, she was approached by a man who got very angry and aggressive and loud with her. The man said through the window that she cannot park next to the building... that she needs to park in one of the parking spaces. Since I was going to be out in less than a minute, and because she was so upset by his aggressiveness, she stayed where she was. The man angrily returned and then pointed to each of the seven parking spots and started yelling "ONE! TWO! Three! Four! Five! Six! Seven! Ma'am, you have all those spots there, you need to move to one immediately!" When Nora told him that I would be coming out in a minute, he said "it doesn't matter, you need to move into one of those parking spots NOW." He was very upset, and his aggressiveness and close proximity to my wife caused her to become concerned she might get hurt. When I came out a minute later, she was so upset she was physically shaking. I had never seen Nora so upset. She asked me who Craig Turino was, and I said that's the doctor who's going to operate on Tovi. She had never met him before, because our regular doctor is Dr. Shulman. The whole incident was so strange, because the parking lot was very empty, and because we were there five minutes before the clinic even opened. People park next to the building all of the time, and the parking lot is shared by several businesses. Also, Nora wasn't even parked, she was sitting behind the wheel waiting for me to come out. And if Dr. Turino has such a huge problem with people parking next to the building, why isn't there a single sign on the wall? But it gets worse. Following the surgery, Dr. Torino called and said I needed to pick up Tovi by 1pm. I thought that was odd, because they were supposed to keep her until 3 PM due to general anesthesia and other safety concerns. Then he said that he wasn't going to charge us for the procedure, and that we can never bring Tovi or any of our other pets back to their clinic. I was shocked to hear we could not come back to the clinic; I was even more shocked to hear that he wasn't going to charge for the procedure. When I came to pick up Tovi at 1pm, the discharge attendant went over the discharge instructions with me. She said I needed to come back for a postop exam, but then she was confused because there was no date and time on the discharge sheet. I told her Turino wasn't allowing me to bring Tovi back. It was a really awkward moment for her, she seemed surprised and concerned about that. I am also concerned about Tovi not getting complete medical care for the surgery. We have been taking our dogs to Kenwood Pet Clinic for 20 years. We've been going to Dr. Schulman for our exams and routine checkups. Turino decided to close our account without even speaking to Doctor Schulman. Turino never should've even operated on Tovi, given his emotional state and anger; we are left with a sinking feeling that our dog may not have received the best treatment under such circumstances. When I left Dr. Shulman a message to call me, Turino called back instead. He said I am not allowed to talk to Dr. Schulman, that the matter is closed, and that Doctor Schulman would not be able to reactivate our account. Turino had the arrogance to think I wanted to get the account reopened, which could not have been further from the truth. Tovi is having difficulty recovering, her wounds seem to be opening up and there's a lot of blood. When I called Dr. Shulman about this, he just said there are plenty of other good vets around. He would not even allow me to bring her back in to check on her wounds. We are now left with the difficulty of finding a new doctor, on short notice, to take us on as a new customer, and to look at Tovi's wounds. Most clinics don't want to take on a new patient when there are complications to begin with from a procedure they didn't even do. And then there's the stigma of having to explain why we can't go back to the clinic that did the procedure, which really complicates whether the new clinic wants to get involved in the first place. It's like a Catch-22 and we are stuck in the middle of it. This whole ordeal has been a total nightmare for us. read more

Being new to the Twin Cities, I knew I had to research a great veterinary clinic that would not only deliver excellent service but that it would be caring towards their patients and thorough in their examinations. Thankfully, I found Kenwood Pet Clinic to be just that! They reassured me when I found out I could not go inside with my pup (as he gets very anxious and nervous when at new places) due to COVID-19 protocols and were communicative throughout the whole visit. Upon arrival, you first called the office to let them know you are there. Then you get a phone call from a vet tech asking you what the reason for the visit is and other general questions. After that, someone comes and grabs your pup from the car to then be examined by the veterinarian. I then received a call from Dr. Vail, who then explained all her findings and gave me recommendations regarding food options and dental products for my dog. In the end, I received a final phone call so that a payment could be processed - which by the way was very reasonable - and then they brought my pup back to the car and a small package that contained detailed written notes about the exam. I also received a handwritten note in the mail a few days after the exam, which put a smile on my face. As a pet owner, I can truly say it is not always easy to find places-vets, groomers- where money is not the #1 motive, and so small things like such assure me that I have indeed found the right place! read more

The very next day they called and fit me in in an afternoon appointment! The office was very clean and Dr. Borck was great with Boots even though she can get very agitated when strangers handle her . After some blood work and a few other tests since she's "geriatric", Boots was sent home with some meds and is feeling better now! I have been going here for the last 4 years. This past week I had very poor experiences with two of their vets. The first phone conversation I had some concerns prior to bringing my cat in and since we can't talk face to face at this time I was trying to be thorough. One of my questions I had to ask 4 times before getting an answer - it was a specific question about sedation. She then proceeded to talk about multiple worse case scenarios before even having seen my cat. I'm already stressed and she made me feel worse so I asked to work with a different vet. He wasn't much better. After the exam and going over some concerning results, I want my questions and concerns answered and explained. Instead of explaining things to me his response was essentially "because I'm the vet, that's why". Do not talk down to me ever! How very rude! read more

The Kenwood Pet Clinic is the sort of place you stay behind a minute later than you need to just I chat with the extremely friendly staff. Dr. Schulman took care of my cat Fatty when she needed to have some of her teeth taken out. He and every other member of the staff took time to explain everything clearly so we knew what was being recommended and why. They were kind and friendly to every pet there (and they all have stories of rescued pets that they ended up keeping.) Overall, their love of animals and kindness to people really shone through. Fatty had her teeth out, and I have never seen her so energetic and happy! A great outcome for everyone. I highly recommend them if you need any vet work done for your furry friends. A trainer who had 10 years experience was shocked when she heard about the insufficient care our dog received here. All our concerns were completely dismissed and our 4 month old puppy became dehydrated and miserable as they failed to give appropriate medication. We were later informed that any reputable clinic would have identified the problem and had him on the right medication on the first visit. It's prudent to note that this clinic survives based on their location in the Kenwood area, rather than their ability to provide appropriate care to pets. read more

I've been taking my cat here for the past year and a half, and the crew here are great. All the techs are helpful and patient with my senior cat-devil. When I made the first appointment, I told the office my cat is a little violent (she used to be worse when she was younger, trust me), so they don't take her temperature when she comes in for annual exams / basic check-ups. That makes life easier for everyone. Dr. Prochaska is awesome. He's an old school vet, and his knowledge and experience are vast. My cat quite strangely and seemingly suddenly developed seasonal allergies and asthma about two months after we moved to Minnesota. It's still a struggle trying to figure out what's going on, as no one really knows for sure what is happening or why, but Dr. Prochaska has given great advice and he's worked with my cat through every test possible as means to rule out any other issues. I took her to an allergist and cardiologist back in our home state to build on Dr. Prochaska's advice and now my devil kitty is on desensitization shots. Crossing fingers it works. For her first shot (which the vaccine was made up by the allergist back in my home state), Dr. Prochaska had me bring in my cat so they could teach me how to give the sub-q injection and watch her after the first shot, as she may have allergic reactions. The vet tech stayed with me after practicing with Dr. Prochaska to keep practicing. My cat wasn't in the mood to be getting injections, so we stayed in the room, trying to get a hold of her for almost 45 minutes. (She was a little shocked by the practice injection Dr. Prochaska gave using saline.) The tech, I wish I remember her name, was very helpful and calming. I'm scared of needles and well, injecting my cat (who isn't), but she helped. My cat is doing well on her injections now, and Dr. Prochaska called me two weeks after the first shot to check in. He's checked in with us before, which is so nice for a vet office to do. I'll keep taking my little devil here for as long as we live here. They also work well with my cat's vets (yes, she has an entourage) back in my home state, of which the other vets work well with Kenwood. Kenwood helps lower the stress I have from my cat's late-in-life illness (which helps me focus on the stress I have from grad school!). read more

I have been going to Kenwood Pet Clinic since I got my puppy about 2 years ago. Or rather, Ted has been going to Kenwood, not me. Anyway, if there were an option for 1,000 stars I would give Kenwood a big fat G. They are incredibly knowledegable about the ins (and outs) of your pet. However, most vets should be knowledgeable about your pet. Where Kenwood really shines is service. First of all, they act like they LOVE my dog. Whether or not they actually do, this makes me (and my dog) both excited to go and relaxed while we're there. Next, the doctors are incredibly available - for advice via phone, last-minute appointments, etc. When we got Ted spayed - yes, she's a girl - the vet called and gave me an update after surgery to let me know she was good and OK. He also talked me through her teething and how to tell if her baby teeth were all gone. We see Dr. Jeff Schulman, who is the son of the senior veterinarian at Kenwood... but really, all the vets are incredibly talented as well as nice. Another perk is their automated emails, that tell you when you give your pup her heartworm medicine. Welcome to the future of animal care! Lastly, sometimes they cut my dog's nails when she comes in for a check up. I have to admit, this is one area I sadly slack in my dog's care. She gets a lot of pampering, but I truly hate this chore - so it's wonderful that they do it for you, quickly and painlessly for my pup. I recommend them to everyone who lives nearby. We've referred a couple people there, and Kenwood sends a Caribou gift card with each referral - nice! It truly a great place to take your pets. read more

Very happy with the care we received today! Our poor golden doodle had a laceration on her side that required attention. When we called to get a recommendation, they had us email them a photo of the wound. The veterinarian quickly assessed it and called us back to explain how she would go about remedying the injury. Where do I start? The kindness and compassion they showed us today. Our 14-year-old dog Archie got very sick at 5 pm and we knew it was probably bad. They got us in right away. We could not go inside due to Covid, but we waited in the car and they called us 15 minutes later and said he had a mass and blood pooling in his stomach. They were worried he wouldn't make it through the night, so they offered to stay late so we could go home and get our kids. After they closed, they made Archie comfortable in the lobby so that we could actually go in and be with him and hold him as we said good-bye. They were so sympathetic and let us take our time. Kenwood Pet Clinic is an amazing place. As a first-time pet owner, I am grateful for their level of kindness, service, and understanding. I adopted Bernice as a rescue a few months ago, and we have been in a few times for those expected "discoveries" you make with rescue dogs. We've been fortunate to work with Dr. Cohen, Dr. Prochaska, Dr. Turino, and Dr. J. Schulman (essentially almost the entire clinic staff), and all have been great! Dr. Cohen gave Bernice her initial exam after we adopted her, and he was so gentle and kind with her (even though all the wanted to do was escape!). Dr. Turino was great working with us when Bernice had to get a lump removed. I, of course, was panicking, and he did a great job of giving me a lot of information and reassuring me of what to expect. Dr. Prochaska was nice enough to fit us in on a Saturday to tend to an opened stitch. Today, Dr. J. Schulman was nice enough to fit us in at 8:30 AM (our original appointment for tick removal was not until 2 PM) because of fainting spells this morning that caught me by surprise. They were even nice enough to keep Bernice for the day for observation to see if they can find out more information to help her feel better. Despite these unannounced visits, the reception staff has always been kind and helpful, and the doctors have always been patient and kind - no rushing you out because "you didn't have an appointment." I appreciate that they are willing to give you updates via phone and take the time to go over information when you just don't know. It's clear they care very much for their animal patients and their owners, too! What a great place for pets (and owners)! read more

I brought my 7 year old kitty here a long time ago and found the clinic friendly, but slightly pricey. Fast forward a few more appointments spread out over the years and my kitty is now 15. She hadn't been in to the vet for a few years, but she has been in overall good health. I brought her in to talk about care for her older age and they immediately gave her a bunch of shots and boosters without asking me (she didn't really need them since she's an indoor cat). Then the blood work showed she had high blood pressure (I only found this out after reading the results myself because the vet mistakenly said she had high cholesterol). They also said she had a several FORL's that needed to be extracted and that she probably had hyperthyroidism because her T4 was high. He said she should have the iodine treatment to deal with her thyroid. I took the new info home and did some researching on my own and I learned that taking meds for the hyperthyroidism may be helpful to determine if there are underlying kidney problems. I basically had to tell my vet that this is a better course of action and he said, ok sure we can do that if you're concerned. Fast forward another 2 months and I took her to a vet in St. Paul that was reviewed highly on Yelp and it is a slightly different story. The first appt they gave was free since I just wanted a consult to have them do the X-rays for her teeth so I could get the surgery done somewhere cheaper. But, they found a level 4 out of 6 (not good) heart murmur that didn't just manifest out of nowhere and my first vet at Kenwood completely missed that! If I had got through with the dental surgery at their facility she may have had fatal complications under anesthesia! PLUS, I let them do all the talking and I mentioned maybe getting the idione therapy procedure and they said generally they would want to do the meds first to check for underlying kidney problems. THEY KNEW WHAT WAS GOOD PROTOCOL. Kenwood wanted to just do the treatment, and not pay any attention that there may be underlying kidney problems. I had to be the one to bring it up. I want a vet that actually knows more than me. My new vet actually takes the time to go through the costs with me and asks if it will work for my pocketbook so I can take care of my kitty affordably. I would never go back to Kenwood. read more

Kenwood Pet Clinic is fantastic. It can be tough to call to schedule an appointment with work, so I was very impressed when they happily set up an appointment via email. Since I was new, they even offered to call my old vet to get my dog's medical records. All of the staff are very kind and knowledgeable. From the desk staff to the techs. They are very good about informing you of what is going on and they were very kind to my dog as well. Dr. Jones was my dog's vet. She was very good about examining my dog thoroughly, not just the chief complaint. She then let me know a few different things that could be causing the issue, gave me a few options for taking the next step and was always willing to give her guidance. Unfortunately, in the few months that I have been going to Kenwood, I lost my dog to kidney problems. I owe a debt of gratitude to the staff of Kenwood who helped my family through the very painful process of end-of-life care for our dog. Although the vet had not seen our dog until the day of her final terminal prognosis, she treated us like long-term patients. The vet we worked with genuinely cared about our dog and couldn't have been any more comforting and professional throughout the final exams and last goodbyes. I first came in to Kenwood due to a potential emergency with my roommates cat. We were fit in right away and Dr Cohen was fantastic (and our issue ended up being minor). I later brought in my newly adopted dog and had a great experience with Dr. Prochaska. He didn't even charge us for the check-up because my dog was a new rescue. I really cannot say enough for the vets at Kenwood Pet Clinic. We bring both of our dogs here (upon recommendation of our in-laws, who have been bringing their dogs here for the past 15 years), and we brought our cat here until he passed away last summer at age 13. What I really like about them is that they do not stop until they figure out what the problem is -- from an ear infection (a common thing with one of the pooches) to cancer (our poor kitty) -- and they don't make fun of me for coming in for appointments whenever I feel like the pets need to be seen. (Yes, I had this experience at a previous vet where apparently, they were just tired of seeing me.) They have showered our animals with nothing but kindness, and -- particularly in the final days of our cat's life -- were incredibly compassionate with us as pet-parents, too. Love them. I have nothing but amazing, great, wonderful things to say about Kenwood Pet Clinic! My dog was diagnosed with a disease where his kneecap pops out. As a 9-month old puppy, playing frisbee and fetch is his life and being unable to leap into the air was not an option. My previous vet assessed the situation and said surgery was the only way, and one with a hefty price tag. When I discussed this situation with our doggy daycare folks (Ruff Love, also highly recommended!!) one member referred me to Kenwood. What a night-and-day difference. We discussed my puppy's weight, this diet, and incidences leading up to the accident. The entire time my limited budget was kept in mind and only necessary xrays were done for initial assessment. Here's where I was really blown away: My vet then sought the expertise of three (3!!) other vets and surgeons that specialize in this type of issue! 6 months later and my pup is doing fantastic. A changed diet and a little strength training of the knees has done the trick. I'm so thankful that I can speak openly, ask too many questions, and not be treated like a crazy pet parent. We've gone to Kenwood Pet clinic for a number of years now after a negative experience at a VMA clinic. I researched a number of vets and finally narrowed it down to 3 who I called to do a sort of mini-interview. Kenwood came across as the friendliest and most professional and were a bit less costly than the others. That was over 5 years ago and we've been very satisfied with our experiences there, even when the outcomes were unavoidably sad. The care is excellent and the people are wonderful. Really helpful, caring staff. They've managed to get me in same day several times. I feel like they have really helped me out with some chronic issues my dog has, and actually took the time to explain the treatment and causes to me, unlike his last vet.
