We took our pizzas to the benches by the port which was close by. We wish we sat down and stayed since the outside area was so pretty next to the church in town. It seemed like everyone there was really enjoying themselves.

The outside seating area is beautiful next to a little church. Staff were friendly and delivered small drinks (we don't remember what they were but they were delicious) at the end of our meal. Food was amazing; I opted for the seafood risotto which had a generous amount of seafood.

Our mains were the €18 humid lamb with potatoes, very tasty and flavorous. And the €7 bis pot of pie of Oschiri was not surprising, wouldn't reccomend, they have much more interesting options. It's a relatively small place and is easily fully booked so we we're happy to get a table. The menu features mostly traditional food from Sardegna and the very friendly staff was more than willing to tell us a bit about the dish and it's history. Everything was perfectly executed and presented. The bottle of Canonau (traditional Sardinian red wine) that was recommended to us turned out to be the perfect choice. After our dinner we we're offered a tasty local digestive on the house. We're looking forward to returning to Vechia Ilva!
Typical digestive from Sardinie.
Special cheese lasagne from La Maddalena and Fragoli dish from Alghero.

Prices are very reasonable as compared to other restaurants around: 10 euros for a pasta with clams (Vongole), 12 euros for two hunks of sea bream, and 10 euros for calamari and fries. Food was just alright tasting but the portions were extremely generous. Clams in the vongole were small and tough but they gave a lot of them. The calamari was delicious! Try the coconut semifreddo, and the yoghurt with fresh fruit. Absolutely delicious desserts to end your day! The hostess (maybe owner) was just the nicest person. She was super sweet to us and made the dining experience a pleasant one! She was so nice we came back twice.

Husband and I enjoyed lunch here today; overall, it was a favorable experience and we would return…read more Yes, it was hot. The restaurant is in the courtyard of an old farmhouse .. an awning protects you from the direct sun, but it's August -- we melted. A fan was brought out, which helped, and there was a nice cross breeze. Yes, there are flies. It's summer and if it wasn't flies, it would be yellow jackets (yup, had those too). We started with the caprese, done traditionally in slices. Both of us had a pasta .. me the sardo ragu, he the chinghale. Both absolutely superb. 53E out the door, that included a bottle of water and two glasses of wine.

We over-ordered and were full on our starters so we didn't end up finishing our main course of the mixed fish platter. It had baby lobster, shrimp, tuna steaks, squid, octopus, eel, and a whole fish so you'd need to bring your appetite to order that. Dessert was not bad. Make reservations especially on the weekends because that place fills up quick.

Truly an exceptional dinner!…read more ... but be sure to have a reservation because while we arrived at 1930 for ours, there was a line out the door waiting for tables when we left around 2100. Great wine, great food .. again, a dining game experience slightly tainted by extremely inattentive service, but we've come to the conclusion that this is either a Sardinian thing, or a "we don't like you if you're not local," thing. For example, we were sent to the register to pay .. without the check .. and the fellow behind the register just looked at us like we were idiots when we tried to explain why we were standing in front of him .. trying to pay our bill. I don't remember it being like this when I lived here in the mid 90s, but I suppose things change.

Prices were very reasonable, would suggest a reservation. We had the mussels and clams which were tender bright. My favorite was the octopus in chili sauce!
