I'm writing this review multiple months after my first visit, and mostly because I keep thinking…read moreabout the conversations we had and it rubs me the wrong way. For starters I have been getting hives on my body randomly for about a year. I've tried to do some food tracing, substance tracing (shampoos, lotions, etc) and just can't figure out what's causing my hives. I get them on business trips and on vacations around the world so it can't be just local allergens. They are the worst at night and I've taken multiple pictures to try and track them. Typically I take a Claritin and it helps enough to get me to sleep. I came to this office to see if I can get some relief or answers. The entire start of the visit was subpar. They had my sign documents claiming I knew the fee was $150 for the consult. I signed two papers stating I knew the consult was not covered by my insurance yada-yada ok. I see a lot of doctors because of my (unrelated) autoimmune disease and in general this was out of the ordinary but whatever. I then get into my little doctor room and wait 30 minutes for her. Right before she comes in the girl from the front desk comes in instead, and asks to take my payment. Note- I have not seen the doctor. This is extremely out of the ordinary and I pushed back asking if I could pay after I saw the doctor. This is so much of a red flag. The answer was no, so I handed my credit card over and moved forward since I had already sat there. She returned my receipt and my card before the doctor entered immediately after. The visit was basically the doctor having a long list of checkbox questions that took ten minutes. I don't know how we got on the topic but we started talking about birth control. Somehow we started talking about how I ordered it, via Nurx (online access to birth control, you do a televisit with a doctor and they write you a prescription and ship the product to your house. I did this after seeing a gyno who prescribed the same BC pill to me for 4 years, who actually told me about the service in the first place). She started to berate me and tell me that the method in which I order birth control is concerning to her. We stayed on the topic for more time than we discussed my hives. I tried to take us back to my actual issue twice and she reverted to repeating how messed up my birth control choices were. She asked about my husband (I had a wedding ring on) and if he knew I was taking the birth control, the process in which I saw a doctor for it, etc. This was wholly inappropriate. She is not a gyno, she is not trained in that area of medicine, and she was not asked to provide any commentary on my birth control. It's really none of her fricken business. I finally am getting fed up and start showing her my the night pictures of the hives - where they are all over my arms and legs and I'm asking her to focus on the issue at hand. She confirms she can see the hives while I'm sitting there in the office (had a few here and there while I'm sitting in front of her) and she says my hives look bad enough in the pictures to warrant an allergy shot. However - she says they are not bad enough while I'm sitting in front of her right that second. Instead - she pushed a biologic drug option on me. A biologic is serious medication and this is also wholly inappropriate. I am getting serious vibes that she compensates off of patients on biologic medication. I tell her there is no way I need something so serious without trying other less serious remedies first. Also of course they aren't perfectly bad while I'm sitting in front of her, but I do have them with documented DATED proof in pictures. I'm not sure how she expects me to schedule a visit with her at 1 AM - or to schedule my hives to show up perfectly aligned with my doctors appt. She ends up writing me a script for a respiratory medication (no where on any website or info sheet for this drug does it state it treats hives) and tells me if it doesn't work we can go for the biologic despite my multiple rejections of the biologic. Of course this is not going to work - this doesn't treat my hives?? I have a friend who is a pharmacist for a hospital chain in another state who said he had never seen this medication prescribed for hives. He asked his colleagues and they all said it is not a medication for hives. I left and I will not go back. I'm royally pissed and should have noticed the red flags immediately. I'm still mad about how disrespectful the doctor was, how unorthodox the office is, and how much I felt scammed.

I am incredibly tired of the way that doctors in this country handle patients…read more I was diagnosed by Dr. Emerson with Sleep Apnea several years ago. I am using the sleep apnea CPAP machine that was prescribed. Recently I needed supplies. I did not need anything that is incredibly serious, just a new nasal pillow and a filter for the machine. I was told by my local supplier of CPAP gear that they would need to call Emerson's office for a new prescription to be able to sell me the supplies that I need. I received a call back from Home Point medical supply telling me that Dr. Emerson's office refused to refill the prescription without seeing me in person. My condition has not changed, I use the same equipment that I have had for the past few years and the only reason that I can think of that they would want to "See me" is so that they can charge me a specialist fee, have me wait an hour to see a doctor who will then write a script allowing me to get a 2 ounce filter and a small nasal pillow. I called and spoke to a nurse at Dr. Emerson's office who told me it was an "Insurance Rule" that I had to come in to see them again. I told her "I do not have insurance". She stammered and then said... "OK well its also dr. Emerson's rule".... This is just a money grab by a greedy doctor who certainly could stand to up his customer service. I wasn't asking for drugs.. I was asking for a piece of plastic..... WILL NOT GIVE THEM ONE DIME.....

From the very beginning of my contact with his office to schedule an appointment I was impressed. The contact with his nurse as I arrived for my appointment was very positive. When Dr. Emerson entered the exam room, he introduced himself in a pleasant manner, took a seat on his stool, backed himself against the desk and wall in a comfortable manner and asked me, what's going on. He listened to me, asking for clarification when necessary and then he began to ask his questions and took down a very thorough history of my medical complaints. After spending some time discussing and clarifying, he arranged for me to be tested for lung functions. Hi staff was very knowledgeable, caring and very patient as I progressed through the test procedures. Upon completion we went back to the exam roo nm and in a few minutes the doc comes in, gets comfortable and spend a significant amount of time discussing the results and his recommendations. I then made arrangements with his scheduler for further appointments. All in all, a very productive and friendly visit with a very knowledgeable Dr. and staff. I debated a 5 level rating, but will wait until my next visit to make certain that I feel 5 is truly justified. I was very impressed with my visit and would highly recommend Dr. Emerson to anyone needing pulmonologist.
