I hope you never have to visit this place, but know if you do you and your pet will be treated with the upmost respect, kindness, and patience. We've had to visit twice. The first time our dog had a mass on his face. He was extremely wary and skittish coming here, even pooped on the floor from anxiety, but the staff was super calm and patient with him. They assessed him and gave us our options. When they removed the mass, they gave us detailed instructions on aftercare and encouraged us to call if we had any follow up questions. Unfortunately, the last time we went was when our dog passed. They assessed him and gave us the news, giving us ample time to grieve. Some of the staff even remembered him for the first visit. They gave us our options and sent us a card signed by the staff which we certainly didn't expect. I'm super thankful for VEG ER and the people who work there. You can tell they genuinely care about animals, and that care extends to humans too. Know you will be in good hands if you have to come here. Parking: There is a free parking lot. The entire team was incredible -- caring, attentive, kind, incredibly smart, and honestly just a group of total badass women. We had never been to an emergency vet before, and as you can imagine it's a really traumatic experience when something happens to your pet. They took such amazing care of our cat Luna and treated her with so much patience and love through the whole process. And on top of that... when I fainted from the stress and they had to call paramedics, they immediately jumped in to take care of me too. They made sure I was okay, stayed with me, and handled everything with so much calm and compassion (which I definitely needed in that moment lol). It's hard to explain how grateful we are for the way they showed up for both of us. We were initially afraid of taking our dog in because he has become very aggressive, so we were very surprised and pleased they offered to send a list of mobile vets. When that didn't work out, we had to transport our dog to them (which turned out doable because our dog was so sick he was really out of it). Once there, they knew our case and even though there were several patients, they got us into a private room immediately. As with any ER environment, there was a start and stop pattern with the visit, but they did an immediate assessment and then came up with a course of action that included lab work and an ultrasound to diagnose a treatment plan. Fortunately, we had recent veterinary reports to provide additional information because our dog has numerous medical issues. Although we were there for over six hours, we felt we were getting appropriate and satisfactory attention and as comfortable as possible in the private room. Just amazing! No one wants to have to go to the emergency room and they make the experience the best it can be in whatever the circumstance. You never have to leave your pet's side during your visit or stay. We went a couple of times in one weekend and they attended to our dog like it was our child and we were kept looped in throughout our time there. We never had to leave our pet alone even overnight. Disclaimer: I have only spoken to VEG on the phone and not actually set foot inside the building. My dog was being boarded for the week while we were out of town and had a pancreatitis flair-up - pooping and vomiting blood. Of course the facility called me and took him to the vet who referred him to VEG for fluids due to possible dehydration. My dog is part daschaund and extremely protective of his "pack" which includes the boarding facility caretaker...We're going to start working with Peach on a Leash again to help with this behavior issue. VEG was kind and understanding of the aggressive behavior. They were very thorough on the phone with what they were going to do for my dog - fluids and X-Rays to rule out any kind of blockage. They noted the behavior and informed me ahead of time and factually that their estimate - cost - would include sedation but there could be a chance that could be refunded if we didnt need to use it overnight. I felt comfortable with the plan and paid via Apple Pay - which was nice because I was out of town at the beach and not right near my cc. The only negative is not receiving an update after they did the X-Ray to inform me that he was clear, but I did see it in the medical records they shared when he was released. They worked with myself and the boarding facility to get my dog picked up and was very thorough with me on the phone. They got the name and phone number of the person picking up my dog to verify they had the right person and called me afterwards to let me know...which was nice. We ended up getting refund because they were able to keep him comfortable without sedation overnight WHICH IS HUGE and helpful for training purposes. THANKFUL for facilities that are able to help the more aggressive pups because I would be so sad if there was no one to help him. read more

Our overall experience with veterinary emergency group has been awesome from the minute we went in there with our little dog. (Our animals are our world). They have helped us in so many ways. They were so kind, so professional , so genuine and took everything so seriously we actually went in recently again today and they are superheroes. I'm from New York originally and take professional and care so seriously and haven't found it like this until I stepped into this place! I'm so grateful for these wonderful professionals. They took me into the examination room the minute I set foot in the clinic. They humanely and immediately gave my cat oxygen as he had labored breathing. They had all the state-of-the-art equipment needed to diagnose my cat on the spot, which my regular vet and even another emergency clinic failed to do. The diagnosis was grave, but they helped me make the difficult decision to humanely euthanize. They were so thoughtful, respectful, and loving to my cat and me. We had a terrible experience with VEG in Brookhaven. The doctors misdiagnosed our Cavachon, treated him for the wrong thing and refused to give him any IV fluids or anything else which basically starved him. My regular vet spoke to them daily begging them to reassess his situation but they refused to do so. The vets even suggested euthanizing him based on their misdiagnosis. Be careful if you take your pet there. read more

This is a hard review to write but I want to do it before I forget. Our cavalier, Soda, has had congestive heart failure for a few years and last night he got really sick so we rushed him in but he passed away as my husband and daughter pulled in. They came out to get him and tried CPR but it was too late. They were so amazingly kind and supportive and went to great lengths to save him. The person that took my initial call was so patient despite my sobbing and having trouble explaining my emergency. As I write this I'm still crying but I know despite the outcome he couldn't have been in better hands. I highly recommend them and greatly appreciate their care and support. read more

The staff is amazing and greeted us literally at the door upon arrival. When you go there, it will likely be a stressful situation for you and your pet. Had brought my dog angus there a couple of days ago. He went in there with breathing problems . He had to stay there for a couple of days. He got round the clock care and they notified me constantly with updates on his progress. He has been diagnosed with an enlarged heart. I was able to go there anytime and they even have a place where you can sleep too. They would have even let me sleep in the cage with him if I wanted too. He could not have gotten better care . Thank you for helping our Pug after she ate quite a lot of hot cocoa mix. They were able to easily induce vomiting to get a lot out of her, give fluids, and charcoal to help pass what was still in her. My 9.5 pound pug weighed over 14 pounds when we came in. Before we left probably 1.5pounds had already gotten off of her. She has been acting like herself again. We did opt to take her home overnight to monitor her ourselves. We took her heart rate every hour and let her drink water and go potty constantly. I do love that she could have stayed overnight and we could have stayed with her too. Monitoring her ourselves gave me a little more peace than me being up all night worrying and calling to check on her constantly. We are almost to the 24 hour mark so I think we are out of the woods but we will continue to monitor her and give her some digestive medicine that we brought home. Her primary vet will see her Tuesday for a check up. The staff is so great with animals. Thank you for loving her and giving her excellent care in a fatal situation without intervention. We were seen by the doc probably less than 5 minutes after arriving. Vets cheaper and closer to us had 6 hour waits to be seen. You can find cheaper emergency vets but you get what you pay for. Luckily we didn't have to bring her back a second time in the middle of the night/morning as she continued to quickly improve upon leaving. Luckily we were able to stay up with her all night as we don't have human children. Thank you all so much for your patience and swift care. read more

My dog was taken to this 24hour emergency care for 2 days before he was euthanized. Drs and staff are nice. However, night time Dr has some room to improve. She is lack of experience. My dog did not urinate for 8 hours, when I told her that my dog's belly seemed to explode at any time, he was very uncomfortable. I was hoping she could do something, but she said there was no change since she was there. She could have performed catheter earlier. She eventually did, which was good. Some doctors do not understand that pet parents feel hurting seeing their loved ones in pain, It hurts parents tremendously. This facility is too noisy. Nurses talk loud. I am not sure if that is supposed to be that way? I expect a more quieter environment when you pay $2250 per day for the service. One nurse who took care of my William on his last night on 6/21/2024 is very nice and caring. read more

We received a call from the early morning dr. saying our cat was doing poorly and was very sick. We were offered plasma transfusion or humane euthanasia. With the clear emphasis on the euthanasia as the correct choice. In retrospect we feel we let the cat down by not doing the plasma and the better choice would have been to recommend the plasma perhaps at a reduced rate as we already had spent 3000 plus on the emergency service. We still don't know how much the plasma would have cost. With that being said the two dr's we dealt with were excellent and the front desk was outstanding. My dog Lacie, a 9 year old shihtzu was showing some troubling symptoms. She was losing balance. was lethargic and whining and barking non stop. I called the Emergency group and told them we were on​ our way. When we were 5 minutes away, Lacie died in my arms. When we arrived, the attendants performed CPR with no results. Everyone said they were sorry. They moved her to a room so we could say good bye. My husband asked for the bill and then I told her that I would go get my check book and she said," Oh no.We don't take checks." My husband and I are seniors on a fixed income. So then we said that we wanted to have her cremated. Then one attendant said that we could not have her cremated until the bill was paid. I was already crying and upset about my dog and this upset me even more. I feel that these people are more concerned with the bill than us or our dog. Vets take checks and our bill was over $1000. Poor treatment of a grieving family!!!!!! read more

I have to agree with Diane C regarding the night shift staff. In the early morning hours around 1:00 am, I brought my dog whom I had only 6 months to VEG and said she was coughing constantly following an episode of thrashing on the floor (can't say it was a seizure because it didn't have the earmarks of one). I also asked to have her stabilized so that I could take her Auburn University Veterinary Critical Care, where I have direct connections with that program. The vet immediately said that's too long a drive and my dog might not survive. Dr. BN did an ultrasound and showed me fluid in my dog's lungs and described what they could do. I asked what the success rate is for the treatment: 70%. Of course, I accepted the treatment to give my dog a chance to live. Six hours later, my dog was dead and I was there the entire time worried but hopeful of the 70% success rate while sitting in front of the oxygen cage watching her die. If the prognosis after the ultrasound was so bad that my dog would die hours later in the oxygen cage, I would have chosen to euthanize her immediately, instead of making her SUFFER all those hours. If the radiology report which Dr. BN interpreted indicated hopelessness and if she had told me so, I would have chosen euthanasia. Communication skill is weak, largely because the doctor is NOT seasoned and she was the only vet on duty with patients coming in after me (one other dog died on the table in front of its owners' eyes, too). In an emergency, you expect highly experienced doctors to diagnose and administer care, not a vet recently graduated from vet school. Recently graduated vets need to get their internship at a regular veterinary clinic for at least a couple of years to acquire the necessary soft-skills. Our pets are beloved family members who trust us to protect them from harm and suffering. I felt I betrayed that trust to my dog at VEG and that's devastating. Though Dr. BN said that she may be harsh (to which I said that I would prefer directness, even if it is harsh), she lacked the skill to say, "Your pet is unlikely to survive and she's suffering". Instead, she said that euthanizing would have to be my own decision. Is there a VEG policy to not recommend euthanizing early in the visit? Pet owners don't have the knowledge of how critical conditions progress and the signs that indicate hopelessness; the vet has to provide that assessment to us so that we can make the decision to euthanize. Even my regular vet who has cared for the other 5 dogs I've had, would deliver his prognosis AND recommendation for euthanasia, to spare my dogs suffering OR allowed me to go to Auburn University's Veterinary Critical Care. That's truly compassion. May VEG develop that compassion and learn to deliver a bad prognosis with a euthanasia recommendation, as soon as it's determined to be hopeless. Otherwise, this new emergency vet care model is undue suffering for pets and pet owners. read more

Trust me when I say most of the staff there especially Lisa who has zero compassion for any human or animal do not care about what your animal or you are going through. We are still finding specialists to fix or poor pup after a surgery there. I have never left a review in my life but I wish I had seen a review like this that could have helped me make another choice for my swest lab. read more

This is my first visit, and so far I am quite pleased. My cat suddenly started showing symptoms of gastrointestinal upset and I did not want her to become dehydrated or suffer more severe consequences. I usually take my pets to Blue Pearl, because I've had a long term past relationship with them, but when they told me, they had a four hour wait, I thought I'd look elsewhere. VEG has a most interesting set up. You and your pet are escorted through the treatment room to a private room with a big window looking into the treatment area. The doctor explains that some people are curious and others don't want to see what goes on in the treatment room. You can close the blinds on the window if you are uncomfortable. You are even told that you can walk around and ask questions. Everybody here has been super nice and professional. It was impressive to see the level of compassion that everyone displayed in dealing with each patient that I saw. Even though it's an hour away from where I live, I will likely bring my pets here. should the need arise again. read more

These people are TRUE angels. They are blessed in their calling and they are above perfect in their care. We came in with our 14 week old puppy that was in dire straights with non stop seizures and everything that comes with it ..... They treated our sweet little Grace with so much love like she was their own. They were waiting on us to arrive as we had called ahead and they immediately went to work on our sweet baby. They were all over our sweet baby with every possible intervention and did everything they could to help us. They have the sweetest most caring and amazingly tender hearts. Everyone made her the top priority. I have never seen so much compassion and sincere care anywhere. From Dr. Boesl to every single other beautiful soul they took care of us and well as our little baby. We were having the most heartbreaking time and overwhelmed with shock and grief. The amount of love and dedication in this place is beyond any words. We did lose our baby do to her sever seizures.... but it was not for anything the staff did... it was just too late. They gave al they had. If your fur baby is in trouble there is no better place to go to get the best care and the most loving dedicated staff that will work their butts off and give everything they have to save your babies. If there was a ranking of 100 plus it would not be high enough. The let us stay with our sweet little Grace the entire time and they were constantly updating us and telling us what they doing and what was happening. My cat of 12 years who was actually around over 17 years old had been sick fir a while though she would never let u know. She got vert weak and sick in one day that night we knew by her eyes and weakness she was dying. The next night as she got worse I couldn't bear seeing her weak and dying so my partner who just had his kidney removed a few days before this with his 2nd round of cancers to his kidneys who usually is so emotional was strong for me as I fell apart got up with me to take her here to this awsime place. They were the most compassionate and loving of gods angels. They comforted us as we had to put her down. God bless yall and showing us the love in our grief. I called them in a slight emergency with a duck (we named him Kazoo) we found that needed treatment and then a rescue/sanctuary situation. They were gracious, sooo helpful, and generous to us. It was the holiday weekend so no rehabbers were responding and we didn't want the duck to get hurt wandering around. I cannot express how helpful they were and how much we appreciated them taking him in (ducks, I'm sure are not their usual patients, so I'm certain it wasn't convenient for them). We felt relief that he was in good hands. Everyone there was courteous, friendly and compassionate from the first phone call. If I ever have an emergency with my pets they will be my go to from now on! You really feel helpless when you find a lost/hurt animal especially after hours or if it's wildlife.
