So glad this clinic has this location. I've been to their other NW location with a previous pet and they were respectful, professional, and efficient, so yesterday when my small dog had an incident with an enormous horse, I felt fortunate they now have a location closer to my house in NE. Once again, the staff at VEG were organized, quick, communicative, and showed the upmost patience with all pets and owners in a busy environment. It's important that owners can fulfill the health needs of their pet in all circumstances. VEG's staff does everything they can to make you and your pet feel comfortable and know that you'll be getting the best care you can. Thanks to them I was quickly given peace of mind that my dog had gotten lucky and had no critical injuries. We left with some prescription pain medicine for her for some soreness she might have. Thank you so much to all the staff here for taking great care of my guy and me! Finley had a very minor injury with his dewclaw but couldn't get into his usual vet for another week and didn't want to risk an infection. Even for just a small procedure, the staff went above and beyond to ensure both Finley and I were comfortable (they even offered refreshments and snacks). They took us back right away, Finley gets very anxious and he warmed up to each person so quickly, and they were incredibly transparent the whole time. The cost was on par with other emergency vet visits in the area and I appreciate how clear they are with costs before moving forward with anything so there weren't any surprises. We have been here three times with two different dogs. We received amazing care each time. They are so caring and empathetic. Their operating philosophy that the pet is more comfortable with you there the entire time is amazing. We felt so much better being with our pets throughout their care (though I now know I could never be a vet). We had the same vet each time and I'd use her for everything if they allowed it, but their focus is emergency care. You can tell the minute you walk in the door that you will be in good hands. Friendship has specialists that are world class, and they will always be a part of our medical plan. But VEG will always be our first stop for emergency care. read more

I don't normally leave reviews but I had to because this location is so amazing. We brought our cat in Mona for a particularly bad UTI and she always has trouble at the vet, normally our vet just uses the heaviest sedation he can to knock her out. They went above and beyond in taking their time to sedate her slowly with less harsh drugs and making her comfortable. And while Mona was still a little hellion she was not traumatized the way other vets treat cats. They showed so much care and patience and were so communicative after our visit about follow up and instructions. The only negative is that they're an emergency vet and we can't take Mona there as our normal vet! read more

I lost my best friend of almost 14 years last month - my beloved orange tabby cat. I had an awful experience with my long time vet / emergency vet and was hanging on by a thread when I went to VEG. From the moment I entered the door I was met with compassion, empathy, clear and direct communication, and genuine warm. On the worst day of my life the doctor and staff gave both of us exactly what we needed to say goodbye. They talked me through every step of the process, never rushed, and always ALWAYS put both of our needs first and made everything as painless and private and comfortable as it could be. I was a WRECK when I walked in. They immediately took me and my dog to the back and starting assessing him. I has called ahead of time since I would need help getting him out of the car (90lbs). I rang the door bell and several people were ready to help. The doctor was there from the start and explained everything they were doing to him. The made me feel so much better and helped ease my fears within minutes. We had Dr. Worth and she was amazing. I can't express my amazement with this place and the staff. He stayed overnight for observation and they told me I could come check on him whenever I wanted and could even stay (I needed sleep so I didn't). The techs were so cheerful and friendly. 10/10 service (and they have discounts for police and firefighters which was the cherry on top) read more

The staff was very friendly, facilities were excellent. I brought my dog in with a broken pinkie toe, she was given blood work, an x-ray, sedated, and I was charged an emergency fee just to be told the only treatment for a broken pinkie toe was to let it heal by itself. This did not sit right with me, but again everyone was very friendly, and I was like, okay, it's an emergency chain hospital. Not shocked there would be price gouging. However, I filled out the follow-up survey they sent me while politely expressing dissatisfaction. The company headquarters in Brooklyn decided to call me and explain how I didn't understand and how all the toes needed to be x-rayed to see if they were broken. This doesn't make much sense at all, I knew my dog had a problem with her pinkie toe because it was swollen and crooked. I'm sure a vet would come to the same conclusion and not X-ray all of her other not swollen toes for the reason of checking if they are broken. I pointed out my reasoning and the customer service rep proceeded to become extraordinarily rude and seemed set on justifying the price gouging and, frankly, lack of tangible treatment my animal got. My dog is more comfortable with the drugs, which is nice but shocked at this place calling to talk to me about my feedback and ending it by giving me a wild explanation and ultimately attacking me on the phone. If they had told me point blank there was no way to treat a broken pinkie toe after I brought her in and they checked her out, I would have gladly paid the $200 emergency and consultation fee and thanked them. Instead, they charged me $900 before leaving. Avoid this place unless it's absolutely necessary. read more

They knew before I did that there was no way to go home with her today, but there was only compassion for my decision-making process, which included calling a childhood friend who is also a vet. The people who work here are nothing short of incredible. In their work and in their humanity, it's easy to tell how passionate they are about animals and their humans. I brought my firstborn cat, Ralph, in for urine issues and they treated us with the utmost respect and urgency. I was hysterical and worried for my guy and every single one of the techs/doctors took the time to explain what was going on and to even just check on us, asking several times if I needed water or food. Ralph is a spicy boy and when I feared he would be too much to handle, they reassured me they were fully capable and not to worry. They will never know how much they helped us during this scary process (Ralph is doing great now!). Forgive me for not remembering each persons name, but Chey and Dr. Ganesh and literally every single other person in that hospital are wildly incredible. Though I hope to never seen any of you again in this particular scenario, I know should anything ever happen to my cats they will be taken care of. I took my small dog here after noticing something wrong with the right side of his head - we didn't know if it was a jaw, ear, or eye problem. when I asked by the vet, what I thought was wrong - I mentioned he was leaning his head and crying when touched on the right side and that perhaps it was an ear problem. She made an extremely perfunctory check of his body, and went along with what I said, which was that he was "probably" suffering from an ear problem Which she couldn't verify because it's was too deep in the ear canal. While trying to look at his eyes, she made a flip comment to her assistant that it was hard to see his eyes through all that fur. She did not move his fur in order to look at his eyes well. she recommended ear medication and said it's hard to tell if he has an ear infection, but just in case here's the treatment. As I was about to walk out of their office - I realized the problem was definitely near his eye. I walked back in and asked her to look at his eyes more carefully.....there was not much enthusiasm to do so, but upon doing so they realizedthat he had an ulcer and a scratch in his eye. She prescribed $800 worth of medication - so my total cost was $1000 for the visit-and sent me home. After 10 days of using the medication, she prescribed, my dog got worse. I made an appointment with the vet who confirmed my worst fears -that he was, in fact, worse than when I brought him into VEG and that half the medication prescribed was unnecessary and the other half was given to me without proper instructions. It turns that some of those $800 worth of medications needed to be administered in a specific way with time between each otherwise they negate one another - none of which was divulged to me upon receipt. I walked out of my visit with VEG and told my husband that I really felt like they did the bare minimum and were taking my word for things rather than inspecting their patient and really diagnosing him. I was right. That is the absolute last time I will ever take my dog to that place- $1000 later I've learned a very expensive lesson.. read more

I can't recommend this place enough. I had an emergency with my cat (she ate a very long ribbon), and I was able to get in right away. Everyone was super nice and helpful, and we were seen immediately upon arrival. The whole experience was easy and painless, despite my hysterics over my cat. They helped her to feel better and I could not be more grateful :) Prices were about what I would expect for an emergency vet clinic, no huge surprises there! I was surprised and very happy that this pet emergency room has the equipment and staff to handle an emergency at 1:30am in the morning! They were able to admit, diagnose and start treatment within 30 minutes of my arrival. The entire staff was super friendly and seemed to genuinely want to be there. They treated my dog like she was a "fire house" pet and part of their family. Lastly my dog came in with diarrhea and she has long fur. These people are amazing. I brought my cat, Bin, to them after he had been hit -- and subsequently had to be put down. It is a great facility and very open and inviting. They were professional and knowledgable while extremely kind and truly caring. They let me cry in a room for an hour and did everything to accommodate my grief. Saved my rabbit's life! The wonderful staff managed to make a skittish pet feel comfortable and calmed down a frantic human (me). There aren't many vets in the area that treat rabbits so I thought it was a miracle that the vets would even examine her, much less have experience and all the right equipment on hand. The pharmacy had Critical Care for rabbits! They explained what they were doing to me every step of the way and made sure that I knew how to give my bun her medicine. I can't believe I spent that type of money and am still in the same space I was in and the only way forward is to spend thousands more. I spent $3600 for 2 rounds of the same tests within 2 weeks and then an overnight with antibiotics for another 2K I could have administered at home. Outrageous. We brought our dog here from another facility for emergency surgery. I cannot express how pleased we have been with the care While in surgery there were some concerning new findings. These finding were discussed with us during the procedure and all our questions were answered. Our doctor (Dr Jacobs) stayed many hours late on her shift to complete the complicated case and has been easily accessible for updates and questions. We also love the ability to visit your animal 24/7 (they even let you crawl in the kennel if you want to!) and the constant updates that are provided. read more

Our most heartfelt thanks go to Dr Dollinger and her team at the Veterinary Emergency Group in Washington DC. We were traveling from the Midwest and our beloved cat, Niko, took a dramatic turn for the worse with his kidney disease. He was in crisis and we were too. The first thing they did was give him a painkiller injection and we could tell that made a huge difference in how he felt. That gave us all the time we needed to be with him and say goodbye. This lovely team was very caring, warm, and loving to our Niko. They listened carefully to us and helped us understand what we needed to do. Their support of us and our beloved pet helped make his passing less painful than it could have been. We made the decision to end Niko's suffering that day, and they gave us all the time we needed to be with him in a private room before and during that process. Whenever you need a 24/7 Emergency Vet, it is not great... but this place is hands down the best. From the open concept, to all members of the staff.... I cannot say enough great things. Unfortunately my pup couldn't be saved, however, this staff (we were there through 3 different shifts) were so compassionate. The pain of losing my pup is so overwhelming, but because of this place and their level of care, it brings me some peace to know she got the best care as well as having the ability to be with her the whole time. They allowed me to stay with her for the entire 24 hours we were there, and even showed care and concern for my well-being. My initial experience was not great: I got in and seen. They decided based on one whimper where the problem was the elbow; got exactly two films of that spot; charged us $1200, looked at the film and said - we don't really know. They gave us some pain meds and said you may want to see an orthopedist for your dog. I did not feel like they did do anything to figure out what the problem really was. Now I will probably have to have the same thing done somewhere else making this a waste of significant funds. Worse, my dog was incredibly uncomfortable throughout the xray and they seemed to think all the crying was fine. Disappointed, particularly since I have used them before and been pretty happy. BUT: The new medical director responded to my review, called me, talked through the issues, and it was very reassuring. Genuinely think they are working on issues and trying to improve. They were able to get my cat in right away and see him for what turned out to be a slight case of gingivitis. He has been described by many as a "spicy cat" and another vet had suggested that I watch "My Cat from Hell" with all due respect to try and get him more accustomed to the vet but the techs here handled him with so much grace! I was able to sit in the quiet cat room with them and they were all very kind and explained all of our options very clearly. I've had trouble with vets in the past for over inflating what "could" be happening with my cat and over treating him for things that weren't happening but the techs here were very understanding and helpful. Gingivitis is gone and would definitely come back again in a pinch! read more

This place is the absolute best. The entire team is incredible, and my (usually very anti-vet) older dog especially loves the night team--Dr. Shah, Terrance, Farnanda, Dani(?), etc. I have two aussies. I first brought the older one in because of some chronic respiratory issues. He wasn't in great shape, so they decided to hospitalize him. I was too worried to leave him, and it was like they could read my mind...they said that plenty of people stay the entire time their pets are hospitalized. I spent the night there, and they took incredible care of him. They also offered me a place to sleep and shower, but I just stayed with my dog in his little room. The night team was especially wonderful--they really listened to me and took his preferences so seriously. One even took out her own mozzarella from the fridge so we could give him meds with his favorite--cheese. I was totally blown away. This dog HATES vets, but he bonded with these three. I have never seen anything like it before. Eventually, around 4 am, one of the vets said that he didn't want us to keep paying by the hour for hospitalization if we didn't have to, so he was going to send us home with some meds since my dog seemed to be improving. I said that I'd feel a little safer heading home after 5 am, so they said that was totally fine and just let us sleep until we left. These people are heroes and so unbelievably thoughtful--right down to the front desk crew! The second time we went, we had to bring both our older and younger dogs due to congestion and coughing. Our younger dog can be very protective and kind of aggressive with strangers, especially vets, but they let us use a muzzle and weren't judgmental at all. The same night team was in, and one of the vets even got down on the floor to try to let our younger dog warm up to him--I haven't seen many vets show him that kind of compassion and patience, but this one did. They also remembered my older dog's preferences (like not knocking on the door because he barks), even after multiple weeks! They took great care of our dogs and have helped us with various questions/requests, whether we could make it into the office or not. Wish I could give no stars.. I had a 9 yr old boxer that was having seizures. Meds no longer helped.. I called them asking for a euthanization price. Explained to them my dog condition and I had no funds. He already been to the vet and did blood work. They said we can euthanize him for free.. I get there they wanted to do tests and x-rays. I had to get care credit for all of this.. like they was actually going see something the other vet didn't. After everything, they was going to send him back home with other meds for seizures. Then started giving prices on overnight stay... Then 5 mins later he started to have a seizure. When the vets saw it that asked this is what he been going through? Yes... They gave him a different type of seizure medicine but he never came out of the seizure... my mom said we came here to euthanize him and another vet agreed with us.. I was still charged with almost 1000 bill... I felt like they really didn't care... I came in to have him euthanized and they cared about money... One of the techs had the nerve to come in the room and say you don't have anymore money.. I have never been Soo disrespected... No one was listening to me.. I had to see him go through that again, in the vet office then he was euthanized.... another tech told me what are you upset about.. Really??.They couldn't even offer to help with the bill... They really took advantage of the situation... read more

On 1/12 after calling around to numerous Vets and was unable to secure a appointment.. Approximately 5 pm I arrived at Veg. Because my dog (12 years) hadn't eaten since Monday and would only drink water. Also I tried to feed him some chicken breast which caused him to vomit. So I was emotional and scared that it could be something more serious..So I rushed him to Veg. When I arrived I was greeted by the receptionist and checked in within 10 mins. My wait time was approximately 25-35 mins waiting to see a Vet, once in the back my dog was physically checked and then a sonogram was performed for about 15-25 min. The vet said she didn't see anything and wanted to make up a triage plan which amounted to $1800 including the $200 fee just to look at him.. Which I said I couldn't afford.. She did offer some kind of extended credit/loan program which they would do a soft credit check, and I was uncomfortable with that so she suggested a IV and said I could leave him in the triage area with them while it was administered and sit up front in the waiting area...Now that made me leery. Because I looked to my left and there's a female and male on the floor with their dog receiving a IV, and had been there way before we made it to triage...So why would I have to leave my fur baby alone..The Vet then said she'll be back and went and sat at a computer station chatting it up with her colleagues while we stood for a additions 10 -15 mins waiting for the IV..So we left because that didn't sound or look right. The following day I receive the examination paperwork by email and the Vet told several lies. One being they tried to contact me by phone and it went to voicemail also by text which I never received.. "But I do have proof of the confirmation text for registration." Also no diagnosis was given or possibilities like what was written on the exam document, nor any suggestions or medicine, just offered the IV...Kidney Disease was never a topic or heart medication. I did tell her during the exam he was diagnosed with Level 2 heart murmur in October, which she took up to a level 3. (Copy and paste Exam Document) Progress Notes Client Communication: -Discussed increase in heart murmur (appreciated louder than previously noted). Recommended that (Name) be started on heart medications -Concern for development of aspiration pneumonia since vomit was seen coming out of nose earlier today -Discussed concern for underlying disease - kidney dz, endocrine, metabolic -Discussed that Midnight needs follow up ASAP due to prolong inappetence and the development of vomiting Patient was supposed to receive 100mLs of LRS SQ uids under skin but client left before was administered. Client was called 2 times but it went straight to voicemail. Phone number was also texted to communicate they could come back and receive uids. read more
