I brought my pup in for her first annual exam. The location was convenient to DC and had a small but packed parking lot. The staff was extremely friendly and I had a short wait time of 2 minutes. They have free dog toys, treats, and poop bags out in the lobby which is super nice. I haven't been to another vet in DC, but it did seem a bit more on the pricey side with a $75 deposit for the appointment and $45 per vaccine.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about this vet! I had gotten a puppy from PA to bring home to my parents all the way to CA. I quickly realized, with just days before my flight, that the pup was too big to carry on and had to go in the cargo. I called practically hundreds of vets in the area and no one could help me -- until here. Kristin, an amazing tech, was able to squeeze us in the very next day to get a travel certification. I am so grateful for her kindness! When I arrived for my appointment, the girl at the front desk was incredibly sweet and caring which instantly put me at ease. It was obvious that everyone here cared about animals so much. Dr. Jacobson was through and detailed -- even going so far as to look up the airline's requirements so that I wouldn't have any trouble dropping the pup off. She was obviously so smart and passionate about what she does. When I get a dog of my own, this is where I will be taking them! All in all a five star experience!! I wouldn't doubt taking any animal here to this wonderful and loving facility.

Dr.Hassell is great! Love the little basket to keep kitty in place!

Losing my patience with this place.... Looking for a new vet Hmmm... this review is from January but was stuck in my draft folder- have been back several times, this place is amazing- Brought my three feline ladies here today and Dr. Hassell who is their cat specialist was great. Just moved from SoCal where I had the same vet the past almost 7 years so I did a lot of research before deciding on this office. Banfield at Pet Smart has free first visits but after seeing the reviews for Greenbelt I was wary. Dr.Hassell was so gentle with my girls and even softly sat on the floor to cradle one to check her belly where she's been over grooming and chewing. He didn't try to push for any extra testing and even talked me out of some paranoia I had. Another kitty has had food allergies but he's pretty sure this is just stress from the relocation. We are doing blood tests on all, as one has pancreatitis and is due for a test and the other hasn't been to the vet in a few years so just wellness maintenance. The visits were 5 or $10 more than I paid in Burbank CA but the bloodwork was substantially less so I don't mind at all. All of the staff were incredibly kind and gentle, they even helped me bring the kitties out to the car afterwards. The exam rooms are bright and comfortable and the whole facility is very clean. There's even glass doors on the back room where they take your pets to get blood, give shots etc so literally a very transparent operation. I didn't even have a wait time arriving 15 minutes early, they helped me bring my girls straight into a room. Waiting area was very large with coffee water and snacks free of charge. Really Glad I chose this place and I would definitely recommend!

Luna doesn't even think she's at the vets. They got super comfortable leather couches and nice rugs to lay on.

We switched over from another animal hospital and what a difference District Vets is! We no longer feel like just a number and they know my dog and I by name already. They sent us this cute welcome card in the mail and also followed up by email after our first appointment. All these small personal details are appreciated. My dog had dental surgery recently and the total came out to be even lower than the low end of the original quote. So they are much more affordable and there's parking right out front.

He had these procedures repeated today when He didn't need to.

I chose this vet because of the good reviews here. It's difficult to rate a vet during a pandemic when you cannot enter the building and watch them in action. However, I am quite upset they did not review his prior records carefully. I thought he had his heartworm, fecal, and lyme test not that long ago but I was told he was due. I hesitated and then had them do it because you can't get heartworm preventative without a test within a year. After returning home I found in the records I had sent that he did indeed have these tests done in October. This cost me an extra $117.93 for tests he didn't even need. I am not sure if I will be returning or not. I am very disappointed. UPDATE: I am happy to say they did do the right thing. They gave me a refund for those services. I really appreciate it.

Great service. The facility was clean and friendly. There is also a free parking lot. The prices are very reasonable.

Ask the Community - District Veterinary Hospital Brookland

I brought my senior dog here to be seen as a walk in. They didn't have any openings but said I could come in the next day at 11 am. Then she said I need to leave a deposit. Is it the policy to ask for a deposit to make an appointment?

Hello Kay - Our scheduling policy for all new clients requires a deposit in order to make and reserve the appointment. This helps us with scheduling and is a prepayment of the first exam fee only. The deposit is applied to your first visit with us.

The dog was clearly in distress heavily panting and pawing at the window/door. The driver was gone for several minutes. I tried to call the business but was continuously re-directed through endless menus that ultimately led nowhere. I've contacted them online instead. PLEASE BEWARE Update: Per Rebeca's response, the driver did not step away "briefly". She was gone for almost 10 minutes and it was 90+ degrees outside. On top of that, when I finally got a response from them via email the following day, they indicated the "dog compartment had the AC was on 4" - well, the dog was not in the dog compartment. In fact, it was sitting in the passenger seat of the van with no protection, car seat, or restraint of any kind. Another red flag. Furthermore, as I waited for the driver to come back in case the dog went into greater distress and someone needed to take action to save his life, I was repeatedly calling their phone number and went through EVERY menu option just trying to find someone to talk to. In their email response, they also indicated that the dog was panting because it's "naturally anxious" - I don't know about you, but I would also be incredibly anxious if I were left alone in a steaming hot vehicle without knowing what's going on. I also have an anxious dog and there's a distinction between anxiety and overheating/borderline heat stroke panting. If the dog's owner being dropped off couldn't meet them at that moment, perhaps they should've gone to drop the second dog off first and then come back. Disappointing one customer is a lot better than putting a dog in a life-threatening situation. I would also recommend re-evaluating drop off communication procedures and scheduling. I can't speak for their other services, but please, please, think twice about using their pet transportation. All it takes is a few minutes for tragedy to strike, and at the end of the day, it's your fur baby, not theirs.

I walked out and realized my dog was covered from head to toe in urine and excrement. I walked back in and asked if there was a problem and she was like oh yeah yeah, she messed her crate twice today but we wiped her off. I should have never been handed back my dog in this type of condition AND without any explanation. And how long was she in this state with no attention to her health and wellbeing? And apparently they accept no responsibility: "Unfortunately we do not have a grooming at this facility and really no way of cleaning her up other than just water. The dogs are crated throughout the day when we are rotating the classes of the different groups of pups. When we have a full house it is almost impossible to keep cleaning crates and transferring her to another." - Megan Clipfel-Johnson, Structured Daycare Manager This all sounds like a District Dogs problem, not my problem. With them knowingly operating one location in a flood zone that ultimately killed puppies during a flash flood last year to an employee at another location hitting a puppy that resulted in its death, you would think they would have a heightened level of care, but apparently not. Be cautious of using the Parkview location if you care about your pup's health and wellbeing.

Training with Mary first began when Gigi, then 3 months old, was biting my boyfriend and I excessively and showing early signs of dominant behavior. Mary helped us to completely curb this behavior through a variety of techniques but most of all, it was general obedience training that turned Gigi's behavior around. Even after Gigi's pleasant temperament was established, we kept up with Mary's training to bring Gigi to her utmost potential as a companion dog. Gigi is now a great listener who walks well on leash and has amazing recalls off leash. She is so in tune to us at all times, which has enabled us to fully trust and enjoy her in any situation. Whether she's indoors or outdoors, on leash or off leash, with other dogs around or without- Gigi is perfectly obedient. She has become everything we could have hoped for in a dog plus more, and it's all because of the training that we did with Mary. For a bit more about Mary and less about Gigi, Mary has many great qualities that are essential in a dog trainer. To start with, she is kind, intelligent, and articulate. Her explanations and lessons are constructive and easy to understand, which are both important since she's really training you on how to train your dog. She's also highly experienced and knowledgeable of all things related to dogs and dog training, which allows her to get the very best results out of your dog. She has a keen ability to assess you and your dog's training and know what tweaks and modifications need to be made, or if a new method should be tried altogether. She is also very adaptable to your needs and concerns and can tailor training accordingly. Last but not least, Gigi absolutely loves her! I could go on and on but in short- if you're reading this review and considering a trainer for your dog, definitely call Mary. Despite the time, effort, and cost that training requires, you'll get so much out of it over the life of your dog that it will surely be worth it. You and your dog will also have fun along the way too. Thanks again, Mary! Steffanie, Cody, & Gigi
