I called ahead to ask if they offered same-day alterations because I had a last-minute family trip and was happy to pay an additional rush fee. I even mentioned that I expected to pay an extra $20-25 for expedited service. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. I was quoted $55 just to take in the waist of one pair of jeans--the same price I paid for the jeans themselves. The explanation was that she was setting aside other work, but the jeans were made from inexpensive material and the alteration was relatively straightforward. I've had designer jeans tailored before, including pairs that cost several hundred dollars, and even with rush service I've typically paid around $15-25. What bothered me even more than the price was the customer service. The woman was rude, dismissive, and made me feel like I was inconveniencing her by simply asking for a service she had already agreed to discuss over the phone. If she didn't want to take on a same-day alteration, I would have completely understood if she had simply said no from the beginning. I was also there with my young daughter, and after we left she asked if we had to "see the evil witch again." While kids can be blunt, it reflected how uncomfortable the interaction felt. I have no issue paying for quality work or paying extra for rush service, but I do expect fair pricing and professional treatment. The woman was super rude to right when I walked in, like I was inconveniencing her by being there. I showed her my dresses and looked at them for 3 seconds and she was just shaking her head saying "it's too much work". Then said she'd have to charge me $100 each dress. $300 for 3 simple fixes is crazy. They are simple sundresses with cotton fabric-I don't understand how they could be too much work for a seamstress. I also brought in denim shorts which apparently they don't take... At first I wasn't going to write this review and give her the benefit of the doubt but then I took them to another place in Encinitas and they gladly took everything and charged me $150 for my 3 dresses and 2 pairs of denim shorts. About three years ago, I purchased a custom slim fitting suit, and shortly afterward I went up a waist size. Sadly, my tailor in Maryland said nothing could be done. Vega's Tailor Shop proved them wrong. I was helped by a Hispanic woman who looked at the trousers and said she could get two more inches out of the waist, bumping it up from a size 30 to a size 32. The trousers fit perfectly, and because of that I salvaged a few hundred dollars because the coat was matched to the pants. I also had her fix the lining of a suit jacket, and my wife had an old dress refitted. The dress had intricate lining, but that was not a problem. Just be prepared to spend a bit of money for the services. Also, the personnel inside are quiet, and I felt a bit awkward in the beginning. It's not a bad thing, because they are working very hard in there. Just realize you're not going to be pampered, but you will be serviced very well. read more

Went to Vegas with a simple alteration to a dress. Right away I felt very uncomfortable and discriminated against but tried to but that feeling aside. Was not greeted at the door and had to ask if someone was willing to help me. When someone finally came to the from desk I showed them the garment and asked if they were able to do the alteration, right away I was told no, I asked how come? And was told that they simply won't do it and it was impossible. Literally used the word impossible. I was definitely taken back and pretty surprised so I asked them if I can try it on and then maybe they would see it was a simple fix, the women quickly replied "no" so I said "okay this is uncomfortable and somewhat inappropriate" and left. I then took the dress to a tailor off of Palomar airport road and they fixed the very simple alteration for 12 dollars. Do not go to Vegas. read more

Great, quick service and very kind. I had called them earlier if they were able to do same day men's pant hemming and they were able to! They asked me if it was for an informal or formal event. Told them it was formal where they reminded me to bring the shoes to see how it would look properly. I appreciated that and shows that they know what they're doing. Quoted me $16, had me try my pants and shoes, fitted me very quickly and told me that I can come back in an hour to pick it up. The stich looks very nice and I'm glad I went to them to get my pants tailored. It was very nice for them to offer same day and even do it so quickly and even providing the quote when calling them. CASH OR CHECK ONLY. So I have used Vega's twice. Once last year for a dress I was wearing for a bridesmaids dress and the sides needed to be taken in. I do not have big hips, so anything from Ann Taylor or Banana Republic, I need to get the sides taken in. And second time was this week to get a pair of flared jeans hemmed. Both times my pieces turned out great! They are fairly priced too. I think I paid $18 for the dress, and $13.00 this week for the hem. They do good work here. Small shop, they have 2 fitting rooms, but it looks like they are always busy! read more

So I crashed my motorcycle at 75 MPH on the racetrack , My alpine stars Track pants took the brunt of the crash and literally saved my ass, But after that day I wrote them off as a total loss. But wait a Min. I took my boots into one day shoe repair in Vista and showed him my pants he pointed me in this direction. After a week or so my pants were back to me and wearable again. I have always gone here because they do a good job at a decent price and it's usually done within a few days of me taking it in. I had bought a pair of Levi's for a last minute Halloween costume and needed them tailored to my size which seemed like it would be almost impossible. She did it in time and I had gotten a call to pick them up. I noticed they had a rip in the BUTT when I had picked them up which was not there when I bought them(I had to wear them to work so of course they had to be appropriate) I had mentioned it and the owner asked if I was accusing her of ripping the pants and she said it was there when I brought them in and I just didn't notice. (I bought the pants with a friend and she also confirmed there was no hole.) She did not offer to fix it but rather said "that's the style and you'll be fine we can fix them later". Not taking responsibility or offering compensation is a huge issue. I will not be back and I'm very disappointed with the whole experience. read more

I was missing a couple of buttons on a blazer but Vega's didn't have a full set of buttons... Absolutely will not return. When I went in to be measured, I was chatting with a girl in the shop (while my dress was being pinned) and mentioned that I've never had anything altered anymore. I am positive the seamstress heard this and took advantage because she charged me $65 to hem 1.5 inches off the bottom of a dress. I didn't know any better so just accepted it since she had already pinned the dress. They also didn't call me when my dress was ready - I had to call multiple times to get through to anyone. When I picked up the dress, they didn't even have me try it on (yes, I know I should have insisted), but instead just took my money (it is cash only) and didn't give me a receipt. read more

By far the worst experience I've ever had getting something altered. I paid $60 for them to hem a bridesmaid's dress and I ended up having to do the rest of the alterations on my own. The bodice of my dress was a little too loose and I just needed some of the extra fabric to be tucked in / pletted and pinned at the waistline area so that it would be hidden by the belt of the dress. When I took my dress back for a second time, She refused to do that because she didn't think it would work. I had to do it on my own, it took me minutes to do it and it looks just fine and is not even noticeable. I am so disappointed with my experienced here and will not go back ever again. read more

I checked with two other tailors and for the simple hemming (literally only taking the hem up an inch or so), others wanted more then 100% higher priced. Horrible. Please save your heart earned money and dignity. My tailor of over a decade is 45 minutes away and I found myself in a bind and went to this shop. I gave them 100.00 worth of work to start. They fixed a zipper for me which was broken still/again the 1st time I wore them. When I called to say I was bringing them back they asked that I don't bring them at the moment and suggested my Jean zipper only broke because they were too tight... They don't even know what I look like? This place is a joke. They clearly do not care about customer service or showing pride in quality of their work. Skip this shop.
