With Christmas shopping completed two weeks before the holiday and no intent to purchase anything else, we walked into Velez Galleries "just to look". Browsing the vast collection of turquoise and other stones and pieces of jewelry we asked about White Buffalo. Michael showed us a raw mined chuck of White Buffalo of which he explained how he could craft into a pendant to fit on my wife's Navajo necklace. Velez Galleries went above and beyond to create a truly special pendant. Michael's exceptional service and professionalism made the entire experience unforgettable, entertaining and educational. We were particularly impressed with how Michael took the time to explain where White Buffalo was mined and how he could transform a raw stone into a beautifully crafted pendant. This one-of-a-kind piece is something my wife will treasure forever. Needless to say, Christmas shopping was extended for one more day and we walked out of Velez Galleries with a new pendant and earrings. This is a must see when visiting Old Colorado Springs! My husband and I stayed in this area in vacation and happened upon this store while in town. It is owned by local Native Americans and is filled with the most beautiful variety of Native American Art. You can spend a lot of time in this store and not see everything. My husband and I went back twice! Some of the most beautiful and intricate art and jewelry I have seen which is all hand made by true Native Americans. I need to give full marks to Velez Galleries. First of all, their stock is correct. Hopi Silver is in the Hopi Section. Navajo silver is in the Navajo section. Mexican/Aztec influence is n the Mexican/Aztec section. Everything is labeled and correct. It is important to me to buy a piece that is not only beautiful, but not from a foreign country or a copy-cat artist. On top of that, the prices are reasonable and they were willing to ship my item, a lovely Queztlcoatl Aztec pot, so I did not have to risk damage on my flight home. Top marks!
