Snooky Park is an amazingly tranquil park and I enjoyed my time at this park. It is a shame that the namesake of this particular park had to lay his life down for this country, but I hope his family finds solace in such a beautiful park named for this incredible young man.

I spotted a zip line (closed for the season) and a splashpad (also closed for the season). Picnic tables and pavilions, charcoal barbecue grills, restrooms, parking. You cannot expect people who bring their dogs here to have any reasonable training nor management of their dog(s). I have been about to enter when a man was chatting with another actually said he,"gave up on the whole idea of training when he couldn't get his dogs to come to him." His dogs were in the park at that moment. We currently have a rescue dog who was abused by other dogs and has an aggression level of Patrick Starfish. I only take him in if no other dogs are inside. A few days ago, he was running his Chariots of Fire, run when a lady came in with three cattle dogs. They immediately chased my dog who ran away to the farthest end of the park and tried to get out the back gate. I told the lady that my dog was scared of other dogs. She literally did nothing. I had to leave my dog's poop and go rescue him. Two of her dogs left bothering him, but one chased him back to the gate when he started to run to me. He was SO panicked we could not walk the sidewalk along the park back to the car (he weighs as much as me and wasn't having it). Yesterday, we found it empty again and he began his happy run and suddenly a big huge black dog was standing there about 15 yards away. His owner told him to leave it & he ignored us and went on about sniffing around the park. I was able to get the leash back on and get out the nearest gate without incident. My dog was scared, but not tormented at all. A long walk and he was back to himself and calm. Thank You to the owner of that big beautiful, well behaved black dog!!

Kind of surprising given how beautiful the park is. They have areas for walking, basketball, beach volleyball, playgrounds, soccer, tennis, baseball, and exercising. The bathrooms and facilities are all clean. My one complaint is that the picnic pavilions are a far distance from the parking lot if you are lugging around heavy coolers and such. Would go back if we lived closer!

The Fenney Springs Nature Trail is superb, and worth going to over and over again. There is…read morealmost always some interesting bird or beast to see. It is not punishingly long to walk. The Villages did an excellent job of restoring this genuine spring, after it had been ravaged by agricultural use. The boardwalk loops around, and one can experience this uniquie area without struggling through muck. The highlight is catching sight of alligators, who are attracted to the endless food source of catfish, and like to bask in the sun at various spots on sandbars and on shore. This is an opportunity to get close to an alligator with minimal risk, as they can not get through the fencing on the side of the boardwalk, and are unlikely to leap over it. If you just admire them they will not bother you. It is unwise to try the same close admiration at retention ponds as alligators can move very quickly despite their sleepy appearance. There are usually interesting long legged birds hanging out in the same area that the alligator favors as well. This attraction is not too far from Route 301, and the adjacent restaurant is pretty good as well, so worth a stop if you are motoring about.

Came here the day after thanksgiving to check out this 46 mile trail and it was definitely worth…read morebiking due to the beauty you encounter. It took us about 3-4 hours with a 20 min stop in Floral City in the middle. We saw the occasional tortoise roaming along the trail side and pretty trees with Spanish Moss. This state trail also makes its way through areas where hunting is allowed so be warned and careful around hunting season. We noticed a park attendant in a truck which had a blower mounted on it driving down the trail and leaf blowing. That explained how pristine it was to ride it. Really enjoyed this area and finding some local wineries to sample from nearby. Floral City had a bike rental shop and noticed a number of people riding recumbent bikes on the trail.

As best I can tell, and I haven't been to all of them, there are several fun natural areas in…read moreWithlacoochee State Forest. Richloam offers ATV or dirt bike riding opportunities. There's a Withlacoochee River something or other part. And there are at least two other access roads to State Forest areas off S.R. 50. The Van Fleet Trail, a 29.3 mile rail-to-trail linear park, is toward the eastern part. WSF offers some good opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to explore and adventure. So get outside and enjoy. :)
