Grapeland Water Park is not open year round and when it is open you can see the crowds enjoying the park and full parking lot when you drive by. It's a Miami-Dade Public Park located in an area away from the beaches and tourist spots situated next to Miami International Airport. I'm only 5 minutes away and the day was beautiful so I packed the bare minimum to spend about 2.5 hours with my 3 year old. I just wasn't sure what to expect. I had a lot of questions like, were we going to like it? Was there going to be ok food? How was the parking going to be? Was I going to find a place to sit? I just didn't know. Let me tell you what I packed and what I will do next time. I just took a back pack with two towels, a water bottle, sun block, a pack of gold fish crackers and my wallet. I did ok with the towels because I was wondering if they'd have towels for us like they do in a resort. They don't have towels for you and I have no idea why I would have thought that they would have towels? In addition to the above I'll take more snacks, beverages, couple more towels and treat it like a beach day. We walked the entire park to get a feel for where we were at and find a good spot. Surprisingly enough we found a spot in the back and that was ok. I feel that any spot is a good spot at the park because everything is so close. You'll find plenty of loungers, a few loungers are under big umbrellas, some tables with umbrellas and areas reserved for parties. Some people even moved loungers under palm trees a little further back or sat around on the grass. Everyone seemed happy with there choice. There is plenty of food spots. One main area where you can get chicken wings, tenders, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream, sodas, small bagged snacks, plus a few more items. And there are about three or more carts around the pool you can get hot dogs, cut watermelon and shaved ice at. That was more than enough for the size of the place. We didn't have to wait long at all to get a snack when we got hungry. The pools are crowded because that's what we are all there to do but it's expected and we were not all on top of each other. You will have to make short lines to get on the water slides and the lazy river which I didn't expect because I was still thinking "Resort" lol. Again, it was all good at the end because they were very quick. There are life guards EVERYWHERE so you feel very safe and they control the shenanigans of ppl trying to cut the line even tho it's not a long wait and monkeying around at the pool. Yes, I read other Yelpers reviews about the lifeguards whistling every second, but.... come on it's not a big deal... you're at a public pool with a lot of people and they are keeping everyone safe. No biggie! Parking was easy for us. We actually found one the moment we drove in close to the entrance however any parking spot is a good spot. The lot is large and we didn't encounter frustrated drivers looking for parking far away. Once we were there enjoying the day, hopped around from pool to pool and walked around a little we liked it. If you've stayed at a resort before, the pool has the same feel minus the hotel and open bar. The entrance price is a deal. One adult and child entrance totaled $19. This is a great way to spend the day if you're a local or a tourist. Note: there are float vests available for the children but they are limited. There are lockers available to store your valuables for a fee. read more

i just recently moved to florida and heard great things about this cute little waterpark. we got to the park fairly early, waited in line for about 45 minutes and when we finally got in, we were so excited to hang out in the pool. we have a baby so i was rushing to get in, as soon as i step into the water their alarm goes off. now, it was thundering/lightning so they have to close. we came back about an hour and a half later, the weather had cleared up and we used our rain check. same thing happens, except there was no thunder or lightning. spent $75 just to walk around not once, but twice. this place is a scam and i won't be coming back here. read more

Four stars just based on how much fun my oldest has had the times we've been here. There's a lazy river and different areas with slides and pools. For birthday parties they offer packages where the entrance is included for the number of people you choose...$200 covers 25 people, an umbrella for 3 hours, 15 chairs and 2 tables. No food allowed from outside. Only one water bottle per person. If park gets closed due to lightning/thunder/rain, they will issue a rain check for you to come back another day (make sure you save your receipt!). read more

If you visit Grapeland with the expectation that it will be similar to Rapids or Typhoon Lagoon, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Grapeland Water Park is small and doesn't have a wide range of attractions but for Miami locals with small children like myself, it is a decent option for cooling off from the persistent Miami heat without breaking the bank or having to travel too far. I visited during Spring Break week and it was a bit crowded with several schools or church groups visiting but it wasn't overwhelming and the only thing I had to wait in a somewhat long line for was the food, which was actually surprisingly tasty for a water park and totally worth the wait. The entrance fee was reasonable and my 4 year old daughter loved it. The lazy river is small and the water was ice cold but it was hot out so we adjusted quickly. There are only a handful of medium sized slides. One section with two slides for smaller kids and another with about three slides for bigger kids and adults. There is also a large pool with ample space in both the shallow and deep end. Kids under 48 inches need to wear a life vest in the lazy river and in the main pool but they allowed my daughter to use her floaties instead. They have lockers for rent and sell a variety of food. Typical water park prices for the lockers and food but the food tasted considerably better here than at any other water park I have been to. I liked that there were so many employees visible and available to help. Grapeland may not be the biggest or best water park around but my daughter and I had a great time during our visit so I would probably take her back again sometime. read more

A BLAST!!!!!! Both my kids couldn't get enough. Staff was very professional and polite and facility is clean and nicely designed. Didn't eat there so I can't comment on the food. I gave it four stars because they really should allow kids smaller than 48" on the bigger slides with an adult. My 4 year old could have easily riden them himself but I understand it's a liability for them but I don't see a problem if they are with parents and/or sign a waiver. Oh how I love places that don't have me running into the usual suspects. It's funny because wile Grapeland is only minutes away from the Beach (and many places), somehow it feels removed. I have taken Baby Rock Star to Grapeland a couple of times and we have had a ball. As other reviewers have noted, there is ample seating both in the shade and in the sun. Both visits I found the pools (and the park in general) to be clean and well maintained. There are two pools with slides, one of them has the slides for children under 42 inches and the other is for taller children. Then you have your traditional pool with shallow end and deeper end (it's only 5 feet or so) and the aforementioned lazy river. I wish the river ride was a bit more substantial, especially given the time waiting in line, but it's still fun. Now I always pack lunch and/or snacks for my little but I must admit that two things we inevitably buy there are an ice cream and fries. Let it be known that while typically I am a picky vegetarian and tend towards the healthier side things, I LOVE skinny fries. Love. Grapeland is one of the few places that happens to have skinny fries and friends I do indulge when there. Love those fries. The first time we visited Grapeland, the park closed due to an impending storm. We were given a raincheck to return and indeed that was honored the next time we visited. I took my son here while on vacation and we had a really good time. I read some of the bad reviews on here and found them hilarious. It's a water park for kids, people. It's not a private beach. It's not a quiet place for relaxing. The staff are constantly blowing whistles to keep the water slides and the kids safe. The water was pretty clean, not too cold. There are staff members constantly picking up trash with grabbers. The lazy river was small but enjoyable. We rode it several times. My son wasn't allowed to use his diving mask. The manager explained there is a suffocation risk if the child gets water in their airway. They do permit regular goggles that don't cover your nose. The food was pretty good. We got 2 frozen lemonades, 2 slices of cheese, and 2 corn dogs for $28 & a reasonable wait time. There were several groups of kids summer camps when we showed at 11:30, but most of them cleared out by 1pm. Not a problem. I preferred the mix of everyday people but if you mask your insecurity in elitism you will be happier binging the Kardashians and being stuck up elsewhere. The weather alert did sound off about 4pm as there was a storm within 10mi. They have a rain check policy for those instances. I took off one star because the only problem I had was when changing in the men's room before leaving. A female staff member was checking to see if it was empty & promptly told me I had to leave. I said I was simply changing into dry clothes. She said they were closed in case of lightning. I reassured her the building would protect us until I could change. She left in frustration - I assume she just wanted to go home. I'm disabled (which wasn't apparent at the time) and it took me longer to get across the park to the men's room. There is no recent reviews so just an fyi, the park is open only on Saturdays and Sunday's from 10-4:45. I hugely recommend that you go at least 30 minutes before 10. The lines get longgg and the park is small so they can reach capacity fast. Also, if you have a big group of 8+ people, go in an hour early, so that you can get a "party area", since they're not doing reservations for now. LOVE that this is in Miami (why doesn't Miami have major water parks??) and I'm not a big fan of Britto but it works for this park. All the slides and decor are creatively done by the artist. Went to the park yesterday and was surpised at how run down the place is getting after such a short time of its opening. During my visit the whole top floor of the large play area was closed, One (of two) slides in the smaller play area was closed, neither of the large water buckets were working, several of the spray areas in the lazy river were broken, there were two broken stumps with a hose sticking out of them where statues used to stand in the small play area and many more minor things. The equipment was one of the major points that Grapeland Waterpark had going for it; add their unfriendly staff and their outside food/drink policy and the location just isn't worth the visit. I did my research on line to make sure the park was open before leaving the beach. Lazy River closed today was posted on their website. Bummer I thought, but hey let's make a day of it anyway. Sometimes you just have to get away from the beach. As I was in line to pay I noticed the sign also saying that the Lazy River was closed. Okay, got it. Let's go hit the slides. I paid full price for the four of us to get in, dropped our stuff at a chair and hustled to the Big slides. As we approached the big area there was a huge line so we jumped in it. 20 mins later I'm starting to wonder what's taking so long. ONE SLIDE OPEN in this area. So I asked the life guard what the deal was. He told me that they didn't have enough staff to open the rest of the slides. WRONG ANSWER!! I decided after not wanting to wait the long line anymore we would venture over to the kiddie area for my 5 year old. ONE SLIDE OPEN OUT OF 3!! So that's 4 out of the 8 slides closed. WHERE WAS THE SIGN FOR THAT? Why was this not on your website?!?! I asked to speak to the manager and she suggested me writing the City, which I did. CRICKETS... That's what I got. No reply whatsoever. Come on people. This is a city run facility, get you stuff together. I don't want to bore anyone with all the horrible details of why this place is terrible, so I will just list a couple of reasons: 1- Not all areas shown on their website are open all the time. Call ahead to find out if the area you want to play at is by chance open that day. (Multiple areas are closed on any given day) 2- it is severely short staffed and the staff who do work there are rude and discourteous. They have very poor customer service skills and will eventually be the downfall to that establishment. I would never even think of going here again. First time this year we came, first we went to pay and the lady in the middle of our transaction she stopped to talk with someone, then no one informed us that the slides were all out of order, we were going to leave but decided to stay, went to get in the water, as I'm getting in the lifeguard told me I had to get in and not sit on side , which I was lowering my self in slowly because the water was cold. Then the rest of the time constant whistle blowing. When we went to go on smaller slides they said my son couldn't go because he was too big, then they allowed adults to slide with their child, which makes no sense at all, what a disappointment. I am giving this place five stars in perspective for what it is. If you have small children, and/or live inland, this is a great option. Please understand, this is not a Disney Waterpark or Rapids Waterpark. It is a community waterpark located adjacent to a public park. There are two sides, each side has a waterhouse with slides. One side is geared towards toddlers and there are height restrictions to keep the larger children away and keep the area safe for the little ones. The other side is for the older children and adults. Each side has about 3-4 slides, which are on the smaller side. AGAIN, this is not a place for major thrills and not a major waterpark. If you are looking for a few hours of fun in the sun with your little ones without heading to the beach, this is a great spot. It is reasonably priced at $12 for adults and $7 for kids 13 and under. There is ample free seating but as is typical for anything in Miami these days, things fill up quickly and get overcrowded. I would advise an early arrival to have the most pleasant experience. Staff were all polite and there was an incident where a mother went flying off the slide and onto her child and multiple staff members rushed over immediately and tried to assist. They offered first aid for the child and stood by until things had resolved. My family and I had a great time (my children are age 9 & 1) and we will be returning for more fun in the sun again! read more

Let's preface this by saying this is owned and operated by the City of Miami and we all know the level of incompetence that the Magic City has in its government. After all, this is a city that routinely closes down libraries, de-funds Fire Departments, and arrests the homeless for not being able to afford the astronomical rent most of us spend way too much of our salaries on. So considering that, the place isn't SO bad. My girlfriend and I took our 3 year-old there last Sunday. It was a very hot day and our pool was closed for maintenance, so we decided to check it out. We were able to find parking fairly easily and walked right up to the ticket booth. We arrived just after 3 pm and paid $31 ($12/adult, $7/child) to an angry cashier, which seemed pretty steep. We then went on to the entrance and were met by another irritated employee who went through the entire contents of our bag, which I thought was a bit rude since she didn't even ask, but we had nothing to hide. Once we got in, I noticed that it was actually much bigger than I expected. There were 4 different areas to go to, which was nice - but not a single seat for us to put our stuff on. The place was packed. Lines were insanely long, too. But since I was with a toddler, we just decided to lounge in the water. We did go on one of the slides, which was pretty fun for her. I'm not sure if they have faster slides, but the one we went on was pretty slow. We tried going on the lazy river, but the line had a good 50+ people ahead of us. All in all, it;s a decent place to take a child. But there is a huge drawback: the chlorine. The baby was crying after less than an hour every time a drop of water would touch her eyes. I didn't open up my eyes in the water at all and my eyes were killing me. In fact, she and I smelled like chlorine for the next 48 hours - even after several showers. I've always thought it a bit odd that South Florida has so few real waterparks to choose from, considering the beautiful year round climate. The closest legit park is Rapids, and that's a solid 90 minute drive from Miami Beach. For lazy summer days when you don't want to do that drive, Grapeland is a fun alternative. It's much smaller and is really only for kids younger than 12, but it's very inexpensive, local, and completely decorated by Romero Britto, that sunny artist whose paintings are happily ubiquitous to Miami and its surroundings. Cost of admission for a family of 5 was just under $50, it's right off the 836 near MIA airport, parking is free and it's well maintained. The park isn't huge, but it's not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon. read more

Because in South Florida, it's only fun in the sun if you're wet. This is a great community mini water park. It's got a kiddie section, with 2 or 3 slides situated in kid-knee-deep water. It has a bigger kid section, (And they really do check for height) with 3 or 4 more slides in situated in big-kid-knee deep water. A short lazy rivier. (It would be awesome if during non-busy times, you could just stay in your tube and keep floating. But you have to get out, and walk back over to the "entrance" to get back on a tube again. There is also pool area with a sloped entrance and a bouy dividing the shallow from the deep. And lifeguards who maintain their self worth with their whistles. Everywhere. It irks me that they force life vests based on height. My daughter is a great swimmer, despite being 3. Life vests are even optional at Disney. The grill for food takes a long time. read more

We spent a good part of the day at the water park with my daughter, grandsons, my mom, my nephew, and some friends. We arrived before it opened and immediately realized it was going to be challenging. There were at least 5 school buses and about 200 children (summer camp). No big deal. It is Summer and this is the time for Summer Camps. The only issue with the entrance was that the summer camps went in as they arrived and those of us standing in line WELL BEFORE they arrived had to wait. The place was very clean and I quickly ran to get a bunch of lounges under an umbrella. All of the big ones were taken by the summer camps, so those of us who were in line before the summer camp people arrived had to content with the leftovers. Maybe next time I'll register my group as a summer camp and waltz right in. As we entered our bags were thoroughly searched by 2 young ladies (not wearing gloves) so all the germs on their hands were all over my grandchildren's extra clothes and towels. UGH! All the items were taken out of the bags. They don't even do that in the airport. Not happy about that. My nephew is autistic so we notified the lifeguards at the slides and all (but one girl) were so helpful. It was wonderful. Everyone had a great time in the kiddie area. We had a nice shady and breezy area where my mom (great grandmother) stayed with one of my grandsons who is too young for the pool. The food is ok, not healthy but it's ok. I wish they would offer at least one healthy alternative for those that prefer to stay away from hot dogs and arepas. All in all, it was nice experience and for the price, it was worth it. read more

I took my 6 yr old nephews to this water park (near the Miami International Airport) and it was great! The boys loved it so much that I even had trouble getting them out of the water for lunch. They have two gigantic play areas with slides both for the younger kids up to 6 yrs old, and another one for the older kids. They have a huge pool, with a shallow area sort of like a beach. They also have a lazy river, which I think is too short, but it was fun non the less. You can bring your own floaters, or you can get some from them by leaving your i.d at the desk. They sell water diapers for the babies in case you forget yours. The place has lockera for a fee of $5.00, which I think is a bit too steep. I just put all my valuables (camera, phone, wallet) in my car when I decided to get in the water since I was the only adult with them. The place has just a few canopy shelters I think 3. So you do have to get there early to find a spot in the shade. Otherwise the hot sun will bake you if that is not what you're looking for. You will be out of luck if there are birthday parties, because they get their own canopy shelter as part of their package. Some palm trees do provide relief at times. There was a good crowd when I went. The place was not crowded beyond capacity which I appreciated. Especially when you have to go to the bathroom Food is a bit pricey. One slice of cheese pizza will be $3 bucks (pepparoni $3.50), hot dogs $4 bucks---yikes!!!! They have chicken tenders and burgers. You can also buy a whole pizza for $20 bucks. So bring lots of cash or bring your own snacks, they do have soda machines and a stand that sells snow cones when you need to cool off. Water fountains are also available with actual cold water. Bathrooms are clean. Cost for kids was $5 and $10 for locals, Otherwise is a bit more if you are from out of state or out of the county. Over all it was a great place to take the kids. I do recommended for the younger kids up to maybe 13. The water slides are really designed for the younger kids, but I did see moms and dads using them at times. read more

We went on Father's Day Sunday. This was a great activity for my 3 year old nephew. We got there early and he was able to play in all of the areas. Everything was open, and they have free life jackets. Even though there are lifeguards everywhere, the park is meant for an adult/parent/big kid to be with the toddlers and some of the slides were only for 48" and taller. The lazy river was also fun. Overall a great time. I recommend getting there earlier, it was very crowded as it got later. read more

Concession stands have affordable food. We went on a night where they had a movie projector, where everyone could watch the movie while swimming. Awful experience. We took our toddler to Grapeland for the very first time and we did not find any seats that were in the shade. Also the water was so bleached that after getting his face wet he was miserable. He was drooling, his nose was runny, and his eyes turned red and watery, and he could not stop scratching and rubbing his face. We eventually had to leave within 45 minutes, as he was screaming in pain. I too had a burning eye, and my face was burning from the chlorine - even after washing ourselves in the shower. I wonder what is the legal amount of bleach they can put in, and if someone monitors it al all. Toys are not allowed into the pool, and to climb up to the water slides (for the little ones) you need to climb up the stairs while burning bleach water is gushing down on you (no way of avoiding it!).. we will not be returning. read more

This is the best water park for kids in the area. There are areas for all age groups. Safety is great there and the life guards are very nice. The best part is that each area has soft padding so if you fall or slip no scraps or cuts. I also like that they provide life jackets for the kids. This place is great!!!! The water park is clean and safe. The water slides are wonderful for all ages (including fun loving mommies such as myself and little ones like my 19 month old). There's even a lazy river!!!! There's an area where you can pick up life jackets for the little ones and even buy swimmers diapers! There's a life guard at every post. There's also a snack bar that sells food and plenty of lounge chairs with shade. The only suggestion I have is if you are going in the summer, get there early!!! Try to beat the crowds and you'll get at least a good hour of unfettered slide riding :) But even as crowded as the park got, the wait for the slides and the lazy river was short! read more

I read the last review and decided to visit the park. We enjoyed the park Very much, (wife, our 2 and 4 year old and myself.) This park is for kids Up to 12-13 Y/O. The addmission was reasonable, lots of lifeguards and Kid friendly. Parking is not a problem without long walk to the front. The water isn't cold. There wasn't a large crowd. This place is terrible. The staff is rude and they close areas on a whim. My one-year-old was happily playing in the kids area and they come to tell us it is now closed, that we should go elsewhere. I laughed reading someone's review about this place and the whole contaminated water. BS. anyway. My son had a blast. The Lil food he had there was cheap. The staff were on alert tbh. Oh and my son did not have any skin issues. Some just want to make this place seem like crap. It is not. Take ur k8ds let them have a freaking awesome day.
