To replace a door lock on my truck they charged me 65# for the lock and after they get the lock delivered they are going to charge me $150.to redeye the lock. That's 215$ for one lock on a vehicle. I went home jumped on ebay and I got 2 locks with keys for $15. Orilleys auto had 2 for $21.. I am beyond shocked.I can't imagine all the other outrageous overcharges these guy are pulling on a daily basis. If you are old or a woman that doesn't know about these things Watch out. Everyone watch out for these guys . $200 overcharge for one simple lock is just wrong. They made me add the Star.They don't deserve even one star. read more

I just want to say that I have had the worst day today but the highlight of my day was going to this place after calling and driving all over to get new key/key holder made. If that sums up my day in a sentence you will know how bad it has been. I dropped my key for my 2012 Honda Accord EXL and it shattered in a couple pieces like a Motorola Razor phone. There is nothing wrong with the key itself or the remote part, just the cheap casing. I went to Auto Zone (who referred me - thank you) to order a new case. After getting there and discovering that the case wasn't going to work and I would need a key made I was kind of panicking. I previously had to have the plastic part of my key replaced and when I inquired with Honda they wanted $350. No thank you! Anyway, after leaving Auto Zone I called Ventura Locksmith. I was greeted by a friendly voice who was super helpful ( I am upset and nervous at this point- I don't live here and was supposed to drive home today). I told him exactly what happened and he was very knowledgeable, even when I wasn't. He said to come by and they would take care of it. I told him I would be there in 25 mins. I pulled in and was greeted by a very friendly man. He made me feel more comfortable as I placed the broken key parts on the counter. He told me not to worry and its common. He also made me feel better by telling me he had a couple of people with the same problem come in today. YOU GUYS! I got a brand new key cut for $55; plus the case and blank key from Auto Zone for $23; $78 in total! The fob for my Chevy Malibu was badly damaged in an accident, so I went to Paradise Chevrolet, where I bought the car, and they quoted me a replacement charge of $220 or more. I didn't want to pay that price, so I went here for another estimate. I got the replacement fob for $102 and it only took them about 1/2 hour to program it. After about an hour, I called to follow up and as soon as I said "Hi this is Holly regarding the re-key on the utility van..", she hung up. Let me start out by saying they generally do quality work. They get one star from me because of this one visit. About one year prior I had them come out and install keyed alike knobs on 3 doors along with keyed alike deadbolts. In the recent instance, one of the door knobs slipped off in my hands with out any undo force. I could not get the knob realigned even though I have done so in the past with other door knobs. I decided to have them come out and fix it during normal working hours. It took the technician all of 5 minutes to replace the doorknob. They charged me their standard rate,1 hour minimum. I called the manager and told him I was unhapppy since they did the original install. I have never had a door knob just slip off in my hand. I told him he should do what he thinks is appropriate regarding the charge. I understand that he has to pay his technician and I would have been satisfied with a partial reimbursement. I guess what he thought was appropriate, in his view, was nothing, zero. I do not like doing business with companies who do not stand by their work and as a result, for this review they get one star (although I would have preferred to give them the number of stars equal to my reimbursement). It is worthy note that they have many more1-star reviews than one might expect. read more

This company is not operating ethically. The are not up-front about their warranty for services and returns for the products they offer. They charge 60% restocking fee for return items, its un hear of, they said the manufacture charge that much, I call the manufacturer and they said they don't charge that much. They sold me a panic bar unit for an apartment complex with a inaccurate cylinder key match. The supposed to have a 30 day warranty but charge to go fix the cylinder. Until today I have not had a resolution after serval calls and emails. read more

Two weeks ago, I stupidly drove off in my car with my mailbox keys on the roof of my car. I was dealing with the anger of a family member and these guys came through and saved my butt. I made an appointment for them to come by less than 24 hours later (on a Sunday). Not only was Ricardo on time and extremely quick in changing the mailbox lock, but he was so friendly and made me two free copies of the key on the spot (they have a key-cutting machine in their truck - how convenient is that!). Just from that experience, I recommended them to my family members. Today, Henry came by for an appointment to look at our front door lock and handle that had horribly eroded over the past 20 years. He was incredibly patient with my sometimes-frustrating father and came prepared with a lock ready to switch it out. He also suggested that we change another part of the door knob that he didn't have in his truck, so he drove all the way back to Main St. to check their warehouse and came right back to complete the job. I can't recommend these guys enough! I know that I'll definitely be using their services in the future :) read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. I called and told them I lost my car keys and got a quote for 2 keys made and the unlock of the vehicle would be included. If the keys happened to be in the car then the price would be cheaper as it would only be an unlock and copy. The guy shows up, unlocks the car, and the keys aren't in there. Ok no problem, make the new keys I initially requested. Aww. He then tells me sorry, the price for the two keys is double what we initially quoted, and we can't do it until maybe Monday. So now I have an unlocked car on the street for the weekend and no keys. They charged me $135 for absolutely nothing. We drove up to Ventura from Malibu to have our 2014 Honda CRV key replaced. Roberto said he would cut a new key, and if that didn't work he would go into the ignition and repair. We came back 2 hours later to find our car ignition torn apart and the newly cut key did NOT work. Roberto told us that we would have to take a taxi back home 50 minute drive without traffic. I said that would be impossible. We walked away from us. SHAME ON YOU ROBERTO, too bad to Ventura Locksmiths Inc. for the most unprofessional job we've ever experienced. Beware. The $85 charge to come to your home covers none of the work they do. There is a separate labor charge for everything they do once they get there - in addition to the charge for any parts needed. The technician said they were giving us a break by only charging $95 for 15 minutes total labor in addition to $85 for showing up and another $87 for parts. After, we called the manager and protested the labor charge, he reduced it to $50 and told us normally it would be $110. The new lock now works, but I Just hope it continues to work because the warranty is only good for 3 months, and I hate to think what they would charge for any service on it. read more

Do not use them they quote one price and charged my credit card far more than was agreed upon. Asked for refund but nothing. Also be aware that they quote you $65 indicating that is the minimum labor charge but it only covers 1/2 hour. I was never told $130per hour until I called for a refund. Regardless, was still overcharged even at the $130 hourly. They know what they're doing and my guess is they do it all the time. Scenario: leaving Santa Barbara at 8p headed for Mexico for 4th of July weekend with friends. 5 of us, with all our food and belongings (including passports) in the trunk of my friend's car. Before our trip starts, we've accidentally locked all our gear in the trunk, and no option exists to open the trunk from the inside (valet lock engaged). The one key we had for the car was aftermarket, so that wouldn't open the trunk. It only started the ignition for driving. AAA, and all other locksmiths in SB wouldn't or couldn't help us. It's now 10pm. I find Ventura Locksmiths on Yelp, call, and Hector picks up. I explain our dire situation, and he calmly says, "No problem we can get you into the trunk." He has full confidence, and even success stories, such that we're convinced it's worth the drive down to Oxnard to meet them in a parking lot so they can get us back into the trunk. We rendezvous in front of a grocery store, and Hector and his friend pull up in a professional work van which I assume contained all the needed tools and tweaks to solve any lock problem. As Hector shares his passion for helping people, he's also narrating how his friend/co-worker is working the trunk lock to get it open with a very sophisticated tool that takes forever to learn how to use. Not more than 4 minutes and the lock is opened, trunk gloriously accessible! His price was very competitive, and even more so considering the hour and circumstances we faced. After decades of normal wear and tear, the cylinder in our home's front door bolt lock literally fell apart. I called Ventura Locksmiths after checking Yelp and can confidently agree with their high rating. Very professional help over the phone. A straightforward breakdown of the service estimate depending on what would need to be replaced. In less than one hour from the time I called, a locksmith had completed the repairs. The cost of service was less than originally quoted, as he was able to replace only the worn-out cylinder without drilling into the door and replacing the entire lock. The next day I had trouble turning the deadbolt and called again. Again, within less than one hour, a locksmith was at my home. He found some metal fragments from the old cylinder that were blocking the deadbolt. He cleaned out the debris. Of course there was no charge (or attempt to charge) for the second service call. Avoid these crooks like the plague! They aren't worth the drama, read this whole review before you even consider calling them. I called in on a Friday hoping to get a key made for a vw eurovan. They told me they could do it if I have my vehicle towed in to their shop Saturday before 2. Nect day I had a tow truck on the way and called ahead advising them I would have the van there by 1245 leaving them plenty of time to make the key. They told me since the shop actually closed at 1 that day and it might take up to an hour to program the key in to the vehicle, id have to CANCEL my tow truck (which isn't typically free) and call back on Monday. I tried calling several other locksmiths on Monday, all of which informed me they were unable to make a chip key for my vehicle and i would have to consult the dealership. With vw dealership telling me it would take 2 weeks To special order the key, I stupidly and desperately resorted to calling Ventura locksmiths again. They informed me they would be onsite at 9am to make the key and gave me a verbal guarantee that I would be able to take this key with my vehicle into vw dealership for programming. It was a shame I had to still get the vehicle towed all the way to the Santa Maria dealership from sb after having the key made, but needing to get this done as soon as possible, I agreed. The tech showed up and made the key, I payed 250 in cash and again was given a verbal money back guarantee that the key would be programmable by vw dealership. I noticed the tech didn't ask for any identification so I could have been a random theif.. I had the vehicle towed to VW along with the chip key Ventura locksmith had made. The next day vw informed me that after attempting to program it for hours, they figured out Ventura locksmiths used the wrong chip and it wouldn't be programmable with this vehicle !!! I was still charged 150$ by vw for attempting to program the incorrect key, and would have to wait for vw to order a new factory key. At this point i had wasted : $100 to CANCEL my tow truck on that first Saturday $250 for Ventura locksmith to make a bogus key $150 for vw to attempt to program this bogus key $time off work to meet Ventura locksmiths tech at 9 am on a Monday $200 to tow my van to the dealership $meanwhile I was driving an expensive rental truck while waiting for the key At this point i was obviously irritated having wasted precious time and money. I called Ventura locksmith and calmly asked for a refund of the $250 as per their guarantee that they used the right chip and it would be easily programmable by vw. I was immediately denied this money on the phone and asked to talk to the manager. I was informed the manager is the one who made the key in the first place and the one who had made the verbal agreement. As soon as he got in the phone he was loudly fast talking almost yelling at me that since I had walked away with the key I owmed it and they owed me nothing!! He kept yelling at me that if I had brought him the "unlock code" from vw he could have programmed it himself. THAT WASN'T OUR AGREEMENT AT ALL !! and on top of that vw had already informed me through both the dealership and the 800 customer service number there is no unlock code for the eurovan and it can only be programmed through a special system that only vw has !! The manager eventually just hung up on me and now refuses to answer any calls. I am considering taking Ventura locksmiths to claims court just to make a point they can't be treating customers like this. I know it probably wouldn't be worth the 250$, but they caused me so much inconvenience, stress, and money loss that I couldn't afford, that I think they should be at least stripped of my hard earned cash that they basically stole. Save yourself the stress and please just use somebody else these guys are shady rude flaky and totally unprofessional. I hope it was worth my couple hundred bucks to you Ventura locksmiths.. read more

Called this number the other night, and I was guaranteed a call back within 15 minutes. I called back 45 minutes later, and they told me they wouldn't help me at the time. He told me to wait until 8am the next day. Even though I originally explained I didn't want to stand in front of the building for 13 hours. The yelp says 24/7.
