As a wedding venue (I've been to two weddings here now), it is ideal. First of all the bar is as long as the room is wide so there is no chance of a backlog at the bar. There are probably 10+ stalls in the bathrooms so plenty of room there and the sound system and DJ booth are all very professional. The venue holds up to 350 people, so it's big. The head table is raised up quite high with an elegant curtain backdrop and stage lighting which makes everyone extra beautiful for photographs. The speeches are also done on the stage so you can always see the speaker. Both weddings we've been to we've been very impressed with the food and service. I believe we had chicken cordon bleu and a prime rib at both. The food really was tender, juicy and flavourful. More than I can say about many wedding venues I've been to. They have a hot table for serving things like a poutine bar or an appetizer table with warm foods. The staff also comes around with hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour. They have a 3rd level balcony that overlooks the dance floor for bigger parties (like the student events I've been to here). Another perk to the venue: The residences that are just steps away can house guests for much cheaper than any of the local hotels. This is a great place for a wedding, corporate event, Christmas party or whatever else you can dream up. The space is enormous! (Check out their photo gallery: http://catering.feds.ca/gallery.html)

Nice hotel - the rooms were very nice and clean. The bathroom was very spacious and the floors were heated too!! I almosted died!! When I told my aunt (that was staying across the hallway) that they floor was heated, she jokingly said that she wanted to spend the night in there!! Who wouldnt given that when we arrived in Kitchener (mid week) to stay, the temperature was 5 degrees. We ate in two of their restaurants and the service was okay. Their main restaurant didnt have the breakfast buffet available given that there were only 40 people staying in their hotel that night. Yeah, that made for terrible table service from one person that had to wait on not only our two tables (10 people total) and the other 3-4 with other guests. Now why doesnt this Holiday Inn offer free breakfast in the morning? Anywho ... next time if we are in Kitchener again, we will definitely consider staying at this location!

We stopped in this area because my husband signed up for a tournament at Chicopee, so I was searching for a reputable hotel brand close to the park, and landed on this one. I chose this hotel because I was looking for something with a pool and a restaurant, and again, a good reputation. Our stay was for one night and we were very pleased with our experience. As one reviewer (maybe more) stated, we also ran into some sports team staying here... but who cares? Its a hotel.. anyone can stay here! We had no problems with the crowds, and we were placed in the same hallway as they were, and if we had a problem we would've just called the front desk and asked them to handle it.. that's all you have to do. The employees arent mind readers and they cant be in multiple places at once! C'mon people... As for the upkeep of the hotel and the rooms, we saw nothing wrong. My husband and I both agreed that for what it is (that being a Holiday Inn) we were impressed! We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant which was a little pricey, but you have to expect that when you're eating in a hotel. But our dinner server (who was also the bartender) was very pleasant and thorough, amd the food was decent. I was also really impressed to see that they offered in room dining- what a convenience! The entire staff has been very polite and friendly, and everything has been clean! I thought the public areas of the hotel were very pretty and very nice! And the rooms aren't 5 star, but there's nothing wrong them, honestly. There is an indoor and outdoor pool, a sauna, a work out facility, and a business center that are all accessible to guests. There is a Keurig in the room (Deluxe King), a couch, a desk & chair, and a sliding glass door that leads out to a small patio. Our room rate was competitive and reasonable, and we felt like the value of our stay matched what we paid. Its a Holiday Inn, not a 4 Seasons! If you have a problem, tell someone.. dont just expect them to know and then complain about everything when you check out, AFTER the opportunity to fix it has passed.

Look for specialties like rouladen, schnitzel, sauerbraten and more. Since it is close to the holidays they have a roast duck special for the month of December (yum!). Prices are very reasonable and service is friendly and knowledgeable. They also are licensed so lots of options for beer, wine etc. We had the duck and schnitzel. Soooo good. The duck came with red cabbage and potato patties. The schnitzel came with home fries and steamed vegetables ( although you could have spatzle if you liked). Please note that even though their online menu shows a variety of salads for those who want lighter fare - the menu handed to us did not show those options. My friend was however able to order a Caesar salad with a grilled chicken breast which she said was wonderful. Her hubby had the rouladen. All the meals were great. We were covering the Black Forest cake at the end but could not do it ( the portions being very generous) so we took some slices to go! Great choice as it was delicious. Note- if you are small portion eaters think about sharing a meal or be prepared to take a good amount home with you!

I cannot believe the embarrassment I felt from Concordia! I thought it would be a nice day/evening out to take our German friends to Concordia for dinner and a few beers. What a disappointment - beyond pathetic! The food was nothing less than a bunch of slop I wouldn't even feed my dog. The old bag serving it was so belligerent even the woman selling the food tickets was shaking her head at the attitude. But enough of the customer service, that I can I get past because that's so typical of Canada anyway. It's the food that I have a real issue with - TOTAL GARBAGE! Lost my appetite just looking at it and just pushed the shit aside. Way to go Concordia, you really represented yourselves well in front of our German visitors. I'm sure they'll have a lot to talk about when they return home. First time in a long time....NEVER AGAIN!!!

It was a summer weekday and although I figured it might have additional traffic with kids on school break, I could tell just by turning into the parking lot that it wasn't crowded. What I did find a little strange was the constant signage and website warnings to book tickets online and not on-site. I guess that might have been an issue in the past but it certainly wasn't a problem the day I visited. I paid my entrance fee and walked the short distance back to the conservatory area. There's really good signage to let you know what species you're seeing, and their habits. What I didn't think of was all the butterfly remains I'd see on the grounds...a little disconcerting at first but ok, what did I expect! The sanctuary is easily accessible. It's very warm and humid, but quiet with the hum of the waterfall. It was great that it was so quiet. There were maybe 2 dozen species of butterflies, and many species of trees and plants. At the back end of the conservatory, there's a counter with large, informative photos naming all the different butterflies and insects, and their distinctive characteristics. There were also pupa hanging, and staff to answer any questions. There were a couple of seating areas. After I had rounded the sanctuary a couple of times, I decided to sit on one of the rocks near the waterfall and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. I then decided to check out the snack bar/cafe. The offerings included some lunch items and baked goods in addition to the usual beverage selections. One thing I encountered that is one of my pet peeves, is a place that charges full 13% HST on takeout food that's $4 or less. I brought it up to the staff and asked that they enlighten their management on how that works. This isn't some mom and pop corner store and they really should know better. Anyway the cafeteria is large and has plenty of seating space, plus a big patio area out in the back with acres of greenery to look at. There are also some swings and space for children to enjoy some fresh air outside. Last but not least, a visit to the gift shop is mandatory. They had tons and tons of preserved butterflies in frames. They also had a good selection of books and gift items. I liked that they were not the generic same old, same old you often see in other attractions' gift shops. I purchased a couple of things I will use as gifts in the future, and be happy that I won't have to worry they'll already have it or get it from someone else. I would love to revisit in future, and bring a friend with her young child. It's the absolute perfect place to spend a day or afternoon getting some light exercise, enjoying a slice of nature, and recharging your battery.
