There are probably 10+ stalls in the bathrooms so plenty of room there and the sound system and DJ booth are all very professional. The venue holds up to 350 people, so it's big. The head table is raised up quite high with an elegant curtain backdrop and stage lighting which makes everyone extra beautiful for photographs. The speeches are also done on the stage so you can always see the speaker. Both weddings we've been to we've been very impressed with the food and service. I believe we had chicken cordon bleu and a prime rib at both. The food really was tender, juicy and flavourful. More than I can say about many wedding venues I've been to. They have a hot table for serving things like a poutine bar or an appetizer table with warm foods. The staff also comes around with hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour. They have a 3rd level balcony that overlooks the dance floor for bigger parties (like the student events I've been to here). Another perk to the venue: The residences that are just steps away can house guests for much cheaper than any of the local hotels. Look for specialties like rouladen, schnitzel, sauerbraten and more. Since it is close to the holidays they have a roast duck special for the month of December (yum!). Prices are very reasonable and service is friendly and knowledgeable. They also are licensed so lots of options for beer, wine etc. We had the duck and schnitzel. Soooo good. The duck came with red cabbage and potato patties. The schnitzel came with home fries and steamed vegetables ( although you could have spatzle if you liked). Please note that even though their online menu shows a variety of salads for those who want lighter fare - the menu handed to us did not show those options. My friend was however able to order a Caesar salad with a grilled chicken breast which she said was wonderful. Her hubby had the rouladen. All the meals were great. We were covering the Black Forest cake at the end but could not do it ( the portions being very generous) so we took some slices to go! Great choice as it was delicious. The owner will also talk briefly about the history of the farm if you are interested. Feel free to take picture, look around the farm, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Be aware they have a friendly cat and dog that love attentions. Other larger more commercialized lavender farm charge up to $13 for the entrance fee. This friendly family farm provide free workshop, I recommend visitors to at least do some small purchases inside their store. At the end, the family need to make a living :).

The high tea was…read moredelicious: the curry, sweet potato and apple soup was divine (my hubby chose the salad instead of the soup and regretted it once he tried mine); and we really enjoyed all the sweet and savoury high tea offerings such as sandwiches (cucumber/egg salad/chicken salad with cranberries), red pepper jelly on herbed cream cheese (shaped as a Christmas tree), scones, and mini desserts (such a macarons, Dubai chocolate cake, pumpkin tart, cheesecake with raspberry sauce). They offer take-out boxes because, like us, you probably will not be able to finish everything. Service was warm and friendly. The setting was cozy and whimsically decorated. Only problem was they couldn't find our Open Table reservation when we arrived (we even had a texted confirmation), but they managed to set up a table pretty quickly.

I happened across this attraction while driving out to Waterloo. I didn't need to stay long and…read moredecided I'd visit on my way back home. It wasn't too hard to find off the highway. It was a summer weekday and although I figured it might have additional traffic with kids on school break, I could tell just by turning into the parking lot that it wasn't crowded. What I did find a little strange was the constant signage and website warnings to book tickets online and not on-site. I guess that might have been an issue in the past but it certainly wasn't a problem the day I visited. I paid my entrance fee and walked the short distance back to the conservatory area. There's really good signage to let you know what species you're seeing, and their habits. What I didn't think of was all the butterfly remains I'd see on the grounds...a little disconcerting at first but ok, what did I expect! The sanctuary is easily accessible. It's very warm and humid, but quiet with the hum of the waterfall. It was great that it was so quiet. There were maybe 2 dozen species of butterflies, and many species of trees and plants. At the back end of the conservatory, there's a counter with large, informative photos naming all the different butterflies and insects, and their distinctive characteristics. There were also pupa hanging, and staff to answer any questions. There were a couple of seating areas. After I had rounded the sanctuary a couple of times, I decided to sit on one of the rocks near the waterfall and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. I then decided to check out the snack bar/cafe. The offerings included some lunch items and baked goods in addition to the usual beverage selections. One thing I encountered that is one of my pet peeves, is a place that charges full 13% HST on takeout food that's $4 or less. I brought it up to the staff and asked that they enlighten their management on how that works. This isn't some mom and pop corner store and they really should know better. Anyway the cafeteria is large and has plenty of seating space, plus a big patio area out in the back with acres of greenery to look at. There are also some swings and space for children to enjoy some fresh air outside. Last but not least, a visit to the gift shop is mandatory. They had tons and tons of preserved butterflies in frames. They also had a good selection of books and gift items. I liked that they were not the generic same old, same old you often see in other attractions' gift shops. I purchased a couple of things I will use as gifts in the future, and be happy that I won't have to worry they'll already have it or get it from someone else. I would love to revisit in future, and bring a friend with her young child. It's the absolute perfect place to spend a day or afternoon getting some light exercise, enjoying a slice of nature, and recharging your battery.

Not trying to judge but it just was ... a man was beating his wife in the hallway at 12am in the night ... heater didn't work all day which was ok I guess because it's early may but at night it was 2 degrees and the heater wasn't working .. I was frozen. So back to the bed bug eggs it's 2am at this point I can't really sleep All of a sudden I feel like a pebble or something under the blanket .. Lift the sheets to find rice and woman's hair a lot of it different shade then mine (complained about it) she said there was no rooms available to change so I calmed down and went back to trying to sleep .. and then again ...I feel another pebble, I look it was another piece of rice .. so I was like what the hell is this ... look it up and yup it's bed bug eggs! So I saw two of them called front desk complaining and miraculously she had another room to move me in .. at this point .. I don't want to stay here anymore I'm grossed out I get to lobby and the lady is LAUGHING IN MY FACE. I'm crying at this point because I'm tired and just want to go home but I live a 2 hour car ride away ... and had some drinks so Driving was not an option ... SO they gave me the other room on the floor this time .. I get to the room it smells musty (which is also a sign of bedbugs) but anyway .. at least I can get a warmer room ... well nope the heater doesn't work in this room earlier .. what a disaster for real

I booked for 7 nights at the Quality Inn here in Kitchener from the 11th to the 18th of September. Now, the room itself was fine, the bed was comfortable, the staff were nice enough (until I had problems), and overall it would've been a fine, uneventful stay I would've felt no need to write about, except for one glaring problem. This hotel has a serious mold problem. I'm an asthmatic, I have been since an asthma attack put me in the hospital at age 6, and mold triggers my asthma worse than anything. Originally I thought it was an issue with simply my room, as it turned out there was mold in the ottoman and carpet in my room, however, this was not the case. Along with the elevator smelling so strongly of mold that it permeated through the shaft and into the immediate hallway outside the elevator doors, switching rooms didn't help do anything to keep my asthma from flaring up. Now I feel the need to mention here that this didn't all happen on the first day, my asthma didn't truly start acting up until the second night of my stay, but it continued to flare up on the third and fourth nights, with the fourth night being in the second hotel room I was given. At this point I determined I simply couldn't stay in the hotel as it was a genuine risk to my health, so I simply asked for the three nights I couldn't stay to be refunded. The manager, named Raj, refused to give me a refund for the nights I didn't use because I'd already stayed for four nights. Never mind the fact that no one in the hotel at any time seemed to take the issue of there being mold present seriously, and that of all the different hotel staff I talked to about this only one person had the common decency to at least apologize.
