He replied, "It's coming." with no further information. After the transaction was completed he was walking away when he said, over his shoulder, "Sorry it didn't work out." The same taciturn person had started the install of the SmartStart (a Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas consortium) a few days earlier. After 3-4 hours (he said he had never installed in a Prius) he said it was done and we drove to a nearby Walmart. The system would not turn on when we tried to leave and hence the car would not start. After an hour he drove over and disconnected the equipment, then spent another hour figuring out that there was a defective relay. That was the reason we decided not to use SmartStart: shoddy hardware, shoddy software and shoddy system design!

Several towns along the "path of totality" - small to mid-sized - formed the 2017 Nebraska Eclipse Coalition, to attract and entertain tourists like me and my Beloved with events, speakers and promotional materials that guided our decision to visit. The Coalition included Scottsbluff. So we breakfasted at Shari's Café & Pies - a sort of mashup of Denny's and Marie Calendar's - and at about 9 a.m., crossed the highway to wait for darkness in the parking lot of the local Target store. This review is written to thank Target's management for allowing our group of 30-or-so cars to tie up space for the couple of hours it took for the eclipse to happen. While their decision wasn't entirely altruistic - my wife, along with a number of other visitors, used the downtime prior to "totality" to shop - the store's staff was nonetheless gracious and neighborly, just what one would expect to find in a small town on the far western edge of Nebraska. What's more, the Scottsbluff Target was good to their employees, allowing them to step outside during totality so they wouldn't miss the remarkable event.
