Happy not to fight the crowds, to get help that's attentive but not TOO aggressive, and after online research, find exactly the laptop I wanted. Wasn't sure we'd find the model I wanted, but lucked out and didn't have to travel to one of the larger stores near the malls. Had great help from Andy, was able to compare several different options in my price range, and didn't feel too much pressure to buy a more expensive model. Was in and out in less than half an hour. Do your homework, there are still some great buys to be found here (and in other "box stores" vs. online), and of course nothing beats seeing and testing out your "new toy" before you buy it. If they don't have what you want, you can always have it sent here from the website, which still works best for many of us who'd rather not risk having the higher $$ purchases delivered.
