This place both literally and figuratively stinks. As if the air quality in the town of Harrison wasn't stifling enough, you walk into the apartment building seeking shelter from the repulsiveness only to get smacked in the nostrils by the stench of people cooking with their doors open. That's actually a violation in the lease agreement but management doesn't seem to give a crap about rules. Here are a pile of other gems off the top of my head: - Random fire alarms in the middle of the night. I've been stuck outside so many times in freezing temperatures in pajamas for negative alarms that I've actually established a routine for this: Get in my air-conditioned car and drive off to wait it out. I felt so clever doing it only to realize that wait, I shouldn't even have to do this at 3 in the morning. - Dumbasses who don't know how to turn off car alarms. I recall one especially terrible weekend where there was a busted-up vehicle that had its alarm going off every 15 minutes. 48+ straight hours in an apartment facing the open parking deck with an alarm blazing. I'd call it a nightmare but there was no sleep during that entire time. - By the way, pick your poison: Choose an apartment facing the parking deck with people revving their annoying Tokyo-drift vehicles in the middle of the night and people playing that corny, loud-ass game with throwing that 10-pound ball on the ground OR an apartment facing the pool where unauthorized guests scream all day and night throughout the summer months. I can't imagine the outward facing rooms being much better - The Con-Ed gates beep annoyingly throughout the day. - People leaving their patio doors open with their loud-ass dogs barking at everything they see - Poorly insulated walls/ceilings/windows: Neighbors generally don't give a shit about how loudly they play their music, even at night. As for ceiling insulation, I don't know what's worse: the sound of kids running all day or some drunk stumbling into the apartment while wearing heels. Remember, this is also really close to EWR - you're gonna hear airplanes ALL day EVERY day. - Crap parking deck security. In the years I've lived there, my parked car has been hit by someone who doesn't deserve a license and on a separate occasion had the roof vandalized. I've also had two bicycles TIED UP in the garage and were still stolen. The security cameras were useless and management just shrugged it off - Why the hell am I paying a premium for the parking deck then? - The trash chute system is a joke. For those who are environmentally conscious, pressing the recycling button doesn't do anything - everything goes in the trash. I'm deeply regretful that I lived there for years with an entire community that doesn't have the means to recycle. - Other crap that I won't get into since it's giving me a headache just thinking about them: Stolen mail (federal offense that management won't even help you out with), street shutdowns during events at Red Bull, flooding in the area, slow garage doors (Steel Works across the street takes 2 seconds to open, why does this one take 15?!!) Don't fall for the glamor of being next to a station that goes to NYC. I remember about a decade ago when maybe 1 or 2 people would get on the train at the Harrison Station. I left the area last year and often had to wait for less-packed trains to pass before I could get on one. It's gonna get worse: New buildings are sprouting in the area and over a dozen new high-rises have been approved for construction at Grove Street. It'll be near impossible to get on a train. Me and my husband have lived in Vermella for 3 years. It's an incredible apartment and Victoria and her staff goes an extra mile to make sure that your experience is memorable and enjoyable. The apartments are spacious, well insulated, and power effecient. Special thanks to Victoria for taking initiative of so many activities - Saturday yoga, movie night, ice-cream day , pet pool day - to name a few. The maintainence team is very prompt in resolving any issue. I have made so many friends in the community and would keep recommending more people to this lovely and warm community. read more

Roseland Property Management was pretty terrible. The new management, Russo, is much better. This is based on my experience of living at Vermella Harrison for 2 years and commuting to NYC. Good things: - New building, so some apartments have never been lived in before. - Nice counter tops. - Cleaning staff cleans the public spaces every morning. They are good people. - Washer/dryer in unit option - Cheaper than NYC! - Walking distance from PATH - Relatively safe walking to and from PATH, except really late at night - Trash chute doesn't lock anymore! I haven't seen trash buildup in the rooms for a while. - Concierges are nicer. I haven't lost any packages either since the management change. - No more fire alarms! Hooray for our sanity. - I didn't mention the relatively good soundproofing of the walls and windows here in the previous review. I don't hear the people sharing our walls, only the occasional people walking by in the hallway. - No more party noise for us, I think our noisy neighbors upstairs moved out. - I don't even hear the dogs bark as much now. The beer lady and the unleashed dogs (see below, [1]) have not made an appearance in a while too. Is this magic at work?? - Most of my packages go to package concierge now! I haven't had to go to the person concierge to pick up a package in a while. Very convenient! Bad things: - There was one incident where there was urine in the elevator leading to the lobby, and it wasn't cleaned up for hours, maybe not even until the next day (because the cleaning service only comes in the morning?), but I just took the stairs instead. It was probably a dog's urine. - Construction is still happening, but it's growing pains for this area. I think Harrison would be quite nice after all of it is done. - We still have to dispose of our cardboard boxes at the loading dock, but I got used to it. You may get used to it, too. It's not that much of a nuisance, especially when you get lucky and the loading elevator is working after hours. :) - Harrison smells terrible some days. Well, the bridge near PATH always smell like wet pigeon poop, because there are hundreds of pigeons living there. Wear a hood or hat if you are walking under it. Harrison itself smells strongly of sewage some days, probably because of the adjacent river, and usually after a storm. It goes away in a day or two though. Other things: I haven't noticed the trash after Red Bull games as much (see below, [2]) but I'll keep an eye out and update this review. ========================= [1] There was a lady sloshing beer everywhere in the 4th floor hallway playing fetch with her two dogs who were not on a leash [2] Before, after a game, there would be trash EVERYWHERE. My girlfriend and I recently moved here and since day one of the lease signing and move-in date our leasing agent, Jerry, and the crew at Vermella has been extremely helpful and on top of any request we've had. i lived here on the first floor for a year. i couldn't wait to move out after realizing that this apartment complex is the worst. some of the people in the leasing office are nice, but others really could care less about you. i had a problem with ants in my room, and it was never resolved. there were coming inside through my bathroom. i went to the leasing office and they said they would call an exterminator. the exterminator never came and i concealed the hole with eyelash glue (it worked). there were so many ants and all i was told was "it's probably from construction". other residents have told me they have rats in their room and they found dropping on top of their counter tops. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SERVICE IN THIS BUILDING. i've missed very important calls because i could not receive a call or make a call. dogs are always barking at each other. people do not clean up after their dogs. the fire alarm goes off at random times and it will go off during the night when you are trying to sleep. a lot of times there was garbage sitting in the hallway because the trash shoot was too full and it would make the whole hallway smell. there are beetles, flies, worms, and other bugs all throughout the hallways. they have a fruit fly problem. i never left fruit out or had fruit go bad on me but i noticed fruit flies would be sitting on my door when i would go into my room from the hallway. the washer and dryer would smell and the dryer made my clothes smell bad. the garage entrance was broken for about half the time i was living there. whenever there is a redbull even it's hell getting back to the apartment. the security guards have hassled me every time, one even asked me to show my license because he didn't believe i lived there (????) the gym smells so bad when there are more then three people in there and half of the people do not use deodorant. the fitness room smells and the matts are never wiped down by the people who use them. i lived in a room facing the pool, sadly had to keep the blinds close almost always because people just walk by and look straight into your room. this has happened to me at all times of the day. the roof top is nice and the pool is nice but that's about it. this is my personal experience! good distance from the path but i couldn't wait to get out of this building. don't waste your money here as your rent will go up by at least 15% every year! read more
