We've shopped here thrice in recent years including a few weeks ago and have always found very…read moreattractive, well-made woolen products. This year we purchased a pair of hand-made wool sweaters, both really handsome in two different styles. The prices were about $200 Canadian, which we don't believe to be overly expensive given their high quality and durability (sweaters we purchased previously have held up well and still look almost like new). The shop also carries a lot of knitting skeins, which do appear on the pricey side, but we're told that similar supplies simply aren't in big supply anywhere on the island. We've chatted with the owner and found her delightful and knowledgeable about the origins of the wool in the shop. They also carry a number of other items including Scottish/Irish kilts, hats, shawls, capes, mittens, slippers and blankets. The shop seems to us a wonderful showcase for local artisans and knitters, and we look forward to many more return visits and sweater purchases.

There are of course lots of socks, mittens, blankets, throws, and stuffed sheep. I think they might've had a bit of tea for sale and they also carried Heather Gems from Scotland, a line of jewellery made from dyed and polished heather stems. Prices might look expensive compared to something you'd buy in a big store, but are worth the quality of the items. The staff that I met was wonderful and I loved all of the puns around the shop! Parking is just in front of the building. If you're looking for something more in the vein of a local yarn store, this shop isn't quite that unless you want 100% wool only.

A small amount of fine antique furniture items is also part of the gallery mix. Even the Anne dolls are as cute as can be, though we wonder if you have to have red-hair to work here, as it seemed to us. But there are grown-up souvenirs too, among them some attractive pieces of clothing (yes, definitely some gloriously old-fashioned Anne dresses) and things like exquisite English teapots, saucers and the like. We thought it was most appealing, and even the bumper stickers were sort of classy if that doesn't sound positively peculiar. Plus it's great to support a small business. Bookmark also has a location in Halifax. This store is long and narrow with one side stocked with books and the other with art supplies. That's something else that makes it unique; get your art and books on art in the same location! Even though the only "artsy-craftsy" thing I do is knit, it is always a pleasure to check out the sketchpads, pens and other supplies. They also have stationery. I always find something to buy in this store simply because it seems to have different titles than the big-box stores. Also, because it's on the Island, it has books by their local authors you simply won't find anywhere else. I do wish it was a bit bigger with a leeetle more selection, but that would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it?

Operating since 1972, Bookmark has a good selection of books and magazines, as well as art supplies. The store also has a strong collection of local publications. The store is part of the Confederation Court Mall complex, but it also has street access.
