My primary issue was with their daily spending limits, which max out at $500. You can ask to have your debit limit raised for a single day, but no more than a few thousand dollars. I ran into trouble with this while trying to buy an engagement ring, as well as when I just tried to pay my monthly rent. I had to call to get the limit raised in advance each time I needed to pay my rent, and I had to have someone else pay for my ring; I made a withdrawal to pay him back for the cost.

After growing my business to over $2M in revenue and banking solely with them, I approached them to establish a line of credit for my company. I thought that the long term relationship, steady business growth, solid customer base, flawless payment history, excellent personal credit, and the potential to support and grow with a well established local small business would be sufficient to establish a line of credit. I was wrong. They declined the loan for reasons I deem shortsighted, placing little to no value on the long term relationship and potential to grow with a small business. My conclusion is that North American Banking Company may be a great bank for large businesses but, based on my experience, they appear to lack the desire to support small business. Fortunately for us, another local bank was more than happy to work with us and will be extending the line of credit we need to grow our business. North American's loss will be another bank's gain, at the expense of a small business owner who wasted a tremendous amount of time working to establish a relationship that was entirely one sided. My advice, based on my experience, is to stay away from this bank. If you are a small business owner take the time to meet with several banks to determine if they are a good fit for you. Find out who the decision makers are regarding financing and meet with them, and if they are too busy to meet with a potential new customer then you'll know it's time to move on.
