Have been ordering from Vermont Country Store for about 25 years. Wished to order a box of chocolate toffee amongst other items but was told it was sold out. Advised I could purchase a special they had of 2 boxes of the candy for almost same price - so I agreed. Opening the box the day of arrival and taking a bite - stale! Old and stale. I called and was told I could not return the stale open box NOR the unopened box either! I am not paying high prices for stale, old products from a store that offloads their old products on customers and then refuses to take it back and return your money. Love the Store and the old items they carry. Been there a few times, but good friend has never been there so we decided to take a road trip for over an hr. and went. No matter what area I was in there was this nice looking man, just looking around, but he had the ugliest black rubber looking sandles on. When finally got to the candy area there he was again. It then hit me...was he security? Friend and I are both over 70 and have money and do not steal. Do not appreciate being followed around and watched. I am through thumbing through Vermont Country Store's catalog. I won't buy anything from them anymore since you have to spend at least $65.00 to get free shipping. That is WAY OUT OF LINE with other .com companies. When I shop at amazon.com, I usually get free shipping and I am NOT a Prime member. I guess VCS thinks it is elite and special and that's why they charge $6.95 for a 9 oz. bag of potato chips. They charge $44.95 for a 10 1/2 inch diameter coffeecake that it says serves approximately 20 people - ha! It seems to me that a coffeecake that size might serve 8. Then add $10.95 for shipping and for only $55.90 you will have a small coffeecake. Even if its quality is Martha Stewart-like, it's much too expensive. The bottom line is that VCS has more bad reviews than good ones. But something tells me that its leaders are so arrogant that they don't care what the reviews say, and they don't care what other .com businesses offer. read more

While this store has everything and many unique items, it can be pricey. I purchased a book that was priced at 13.95. When I took the tag off before wrapping it as a gift, the price was $7.99. I made a big mistake ordering percale cotton sheets and pillowcases. On the cases, the hems are cheap and short. The fitted sheets are impossible to fold because of construction, impossible to put in place on bed quickly, also because of construction. The elastic is ridiculous.I no longer bother, just use the flat sheets and mitre the corners. read more

Big waste of time. Honey has no coupons. No free shipping for $118 order, oh but wait, suddenly there is free shipping, and where does that tax come from? I'm in California. Whoosh, the total is now $122, and then when I click on place your order, that total disappears and $144 is the new total. Then some inscrutable error message appears above. I wanted to support an online company, other than Amazon, during the COVID shutdown so I ordered a few items back in May. A few came and they were of much lower quality than I expected, but I kept them. One item was backordered, but I was okay with that. They kept promising it would come in soon. I just received the message that it was delayed again and that they wanted to cancel the order - and this is after one of their customer service reps called to get our credit card number (we had originally used PayPal but that had expired) so they could send it as soon as it came in, which on the call, we were told would be about another week. And to top it off, their email informing us the item was delayed again was very flip. I didn't get the feeling they were sorry we were strung along for months. No, "Thanks for being so patient, but we are sorry to inform you that..." Definitely unsubscribing to all their emails - which come so often they are now spam. read more

Saw their catalog and fell absolutely in love with their merchandise and retro look. Order few items for Christmas, but when products arrived, it was cheap material and overall bad quality (hefty priced). Returned within the 30 days, called numerous time to check on the status of both return and money back (tracking number stated it was safely received): very unpleasant customer service representatives who were rude, unhelpful and did not know where my return was. After weeks of emails and calls, they only gave me a partial refund (half the initial purchase) claiming the rest was for shipping back and forth. Awful experience. read more

Terrible service. Gave order personally to store employee with mailing information. They didn't bother to put the PO Box on package so the post office returned the package and, after 10 days, I still didn't get the gift I needed for Christmas. They had no remorse when I called and couldn't care less when they credited my charge card. No kidding. Did they expect me to pay for something I didn't get? I (Robert's wife) love looking at the catalog and for a long time wanted to order something. Finally, that day came. I had finished decorating an extra bedroom and needed a coverlet for the bed and a curtain for the window. I ordered one of each, which was very expensive, even more so when you add the shipping charge. After I ordered it, call me indecisive, but I changed my mind: I no longer wanted the coverlet. I called customer service to cancel the order 10 minutes after I had placed it online. I was told that the order could not be canceled because it was already in fulfillment being packaged to be shipped. Wow! That's fast! I tried and tried to get the coverlet order canceled and they would not relent. The customer service representative did tell me that if I wanted to return it that I could do so at no cost. Anyway, two weeks later the package with the coverlet arrived. So much for the "order being in fulfillment." The company uses deceptive practices to benefit their own interests: never a good customer service strategy. read more

Watch out. Tourist trap prices. Yes they have all kinds of neat stuff, but the prices are way too high. Syrup that sells for twice what I pay at the local farm stand, Cheese @ 26$/lb that sells for 17$/lb down the road. I guess you've got to pay for the free samples somehow. read more

I enjoy this store less as I get older and things change. It is definitely geared to words tourists. Prices can be a little steep, staff can be friendly on a hit and miss basis. Keep an eye on your children as the quarters are cramped and there are collectibles within reach. One nice thing is that you can still get "penny candy" from large jars in the front of the store. read more

I could spend HOURS at the Vermont Country Store. My grandma used to live near the VCS, and I used to beg my dad to stop there. They have everything you could ever want or need. Little knick-knacks, penny candy, crackers, books, sweatshirts, I mean everything! It's a step back in time to walk over these worn wooden floorboards, and to venture through the soda and candy section - with its old vending machines and refrigerators. Yes they offer the original glass coke bottles. It just tastes better from the glass bottle, I think. While you're there get a bag of Vermont soup and chowder crackers - they'll put your wimpy oyster crackers to shame! read more

I'll start out by saying, love their products. Some are a blast from the past, but way too pricey. This review is about an order where I ordered a dress (Sept 13th) for the summer and just got the replacement about a week ago (about 11.18). The dress was too big and I was going to put up with it but it really was a tent on me. I followed their sizing guide and it was way off. I was told when I called in that because it was a mistake on their website, they would send me a postage paid sticker so I wouldn't have to pay to ship it back. I waited a week and then called when the label didn't arrive. I was told it takes a while and to wait another week. I did and nothing. So I called back and the man said he would send me another label. About 5 days later the label came. Where did the other one go if indeed it was sent to me? I sent the dress back. A week later I called when I didn't receive acknowledgment of receiving the parcel. I was told again that it takes a while to get from California to Vermont and that I would receive an email letting me know it was received and the replacement processed. This was about 6 weeks by now. I was told to keep calling back so I did again a week later. This time, a Lady asked if I still had my tracking number which I did so I pulled it up online and sure enough the package I sent to them was received on 'October 30th' and obviously just sitting there. This call was November 14th. So they had the package for 2 weeks but kept telling me it was going to take time to get to them. The woman seemed a bit flustered, started making excuses and then said she'd send the replacement out that day, but charge me and then refund the other dress that was sitting there waiting for them to process. The only time I received an acknowledgment that the package was received by them was when I got off the phone with her and after telling her, 'yes, you do have the package'. It's unfortunate that customer service was this bad and their prices are so high. They had potential at first but I won't do business with them again. It just isn't worth the hassle. read more

Vermont Country Store seems to love deceiving the public with its emails. Today it says "Last 2 days for Free Shipping". Seems it is only free if you read the very finest of print which says you must spend a minimum of $65! So much for free and for transparency! Talk about a blast from the past! Six of us relived our childhoods while spending an hour perusing, and purchasing, old-time candies, Teaberry gum and lots of "old" soaps, colognes etc. Where else can you find a real sock monkey??? Mine is on backorder and should be shipping soon. Yay!!! My only complaint is that the prices are very high but we found that to be the case everywhere in Vermont. Possibly it's because malls are not allowed in the State so Mom&Pop stores flourish and have to charge a bit more than high volume mall stores. Next door is the Bryant Inn restaurant, which I could not find on Yelp. We went there for lunch and had some very nice soups and sandwiches. read more

I purchased a Vermont Harvest cake (fruitcake) in November 2012 to be served to guests during the holidays. I was very disappointed when I finally opened the box and found the cake to look burnt. It was small, dark and flat. I spent $29.95 plus shipping and handling for this cake and, to say the least, I was very disappointed. I tried to comment about the cake on the Vermont Country Store website and my comments were rejected twice because I apparently didn't follow their 'Big Brother' rules. My original rejected comment had a reference to the Trappist Monks in Oregon who used to sell a great fruit cake for about the same price and more than double the size of the 'hockey-puck' I received. They didn't like that. I'll comment here since they don't rule this site. I will never purchase another thing from this company and I would highly recommend everyone to keep away from this over-priced, greedy company. read more

Just had my first experience with TVCS, and I will certainly be shopping with them more! My husband is having surgery in one week where he is required to afterwards wear loose pants with elastic ankles so as not to trip...they not only had exactly what we needed, but they VERY pleasantly worked with me on getting them here on time. I just went back and read on their home page that they are a family-run store...I can see that, as you don't get this kind of understanding, prompt, and wonderful service just anywhere!
