The driver who delivered the 5 cubic yards of mini chuck was great and dumped the bark in the exact spot we wanted it. He had a great sense of humor. When Cruz Landscaping arrived to spread the bark for me, they informed me that "this is the good stuff" and I got a good price. My yard looks fabulous. I have been a customer of these people for the past 9 years, you go with what you know! So when I see negative reviews about this company and their employee's it really disturbs me. Like I said I am a 9 year customer of this company and Never Ever had I had issues with service let alone their merchandise. They have always been helpful, courteous and can answer any questions you have about dirt, rock and mulch. I do all my shopping by phone, and its always been amazing. Bought some tree bark to refresh our landscaping. Medium beauty bark is what they recommended. Polite and offered to deliver the next day. Color was perfect anc the smell is amazing. Yard looks so much better now. Turns out I over ordered but my neighbors are happy as we will share the left overs with them. read more

I don't know about their product but their driver almost killed me and my son. I was driving on Bond Rd at 7:30 AM with my son and Vern's topsoil dump truck pulled out and crossed in front of my car while I was driving at 50 MPH. I had to slam on my brakes and swerve off the road to avoid hitting the side of the dump truck. The driver then yelled out the window and flipped me off like it was my fault that he doesn't understand how to drive. I called the office to notify them of their unsafe driver and they blew me off. If their drivers can't pull out of their driveway I wouldn't trust them on my property. read more

This was my second time getting the garden mix from Verns. The first time I got soil from this place, it was good. Got 15 yards this year and my seeds are not growing. I got a soil test kit and there was no nitrogen in it. I tested it again just to make sure and same results. No nitrogen? For real? Now my vegetables are struggling and I am having to use liquid fertilizer to try to save months worth of work. Shame on this place for selling such soil to people. There went 800 dollars and even more money now for manure to amend the soil in the fall to try and fix it. And a friend of mine has the same problem of getting soil that was pretty much sand and some wood chips. read more

We purchased TONS of organic soil from Vern's over and over due to a lot of landscaping we did. I have to say it was a wonderful experience all around. Upon my inquiry, they were very attentive on the phone, educating me about all the different soil - topsoil. They also have a limited but nice selection of rocks and we bought a ton of rock also for retaining walls around a creek, and steps, etc... All very good quality, good service and they actually helped explain alternatives with re to pricing & delivery. VERY HAPPY with Vern's. read more

The organic composted soil was very expensive and is just ghastly dirt full of sticks and gravel. Danged awful stuff. We started our vegetables in an organic seed starter soil, but as soon as we planted our seedlings in the soil from Vern's, everything stopped growing. We are using loads of added manure and fish liquid but nothing is even remotely thriving. Never again. read more

I bought the garden mix from Vern's Organic Topsoil and Bark. It turns out Vern's is not certified organic. They do not know what is in the native soil used in the garden mix. The native soil comes from various sources, such as Safeway's construction site in Poulsbo. Now I am left with a ruined tomato crop. I will NEVER buy from Vern's again. read more

Ordered 3/4'' "shine rock" last Saturday, the 10th. Leavy, who took my order (and my credit card information) scheduled the delivery for Monday afternoon. He asked whether anyone is going to be home for the delivery and when i told him "no" he asked to draw a plan of the house to outline where i want the rock to be unloaded. I showed him the pictures of the house on my cell phone instead with the spot where i wanted them to drop the rock. He then said he doesn't need any paper drawings and he suggested i'd also lay down a tarp or plastic sheet on the spot for the driver. He also said that the card would be charged after the product is delivered. And then he let me go. On Monday afternoon i received a message from the office asking to call them back. Tried to call them back to find out what they need from me and left a message too. Then i was in meetings the rest of the afternoon. When got home in the evening there was no rock on the tarp or anywhere else around the house. Called them Tuesday morning to find out why the product wasn't delivered. Apparently they were expecting me to be home, since "i didn't sign a waver" hence no delivery. I would be happy to sign any waver if i was given one! Leavy knew i won't be at home during the delivery and he indicated that it would NOT be a problem. So why/what waver? Explained the situation to the woman on the phone (i believe her name is Alicia?). She was aggressive at the beginning, but then apologized and said she'll have either Leavy or the manager call me right back. Also said Leavy wasn't in the office on Monday to let them know what the agreement was. I'm still waiting for the call. So far no one called me back and i don't have the rock i ordered either. Major communication problems between the staff members! It says on their website "The customers of Vern's Organic Topsoil will always be considered friends." I don't want to be their friend but i want to be treated with some respect at least. I just hope they don't misuse my credit card information. I don't trust them. Tina. read more

I've used Vern's several years back and what I got was fine. Unfortunately, this year, feeling confident with my previous purchase, I ordered a truck load of compost. This load literally ruined my family's summer. The compost was horrendous--nothing grew!! I had to continuously add amendments to the soil and even then, it was bad. To make matters worse I found FRESH DOG MANURE IN THE COMPOST! Then to top it all off the load of compost brought with it the worst infestation of midges (google them!) They swarmed around my family every evening; forcing us back inside. Maybe this was a fluke, but I'll never buy from them again. read more

They have a wide variety of products and are very good at helping you figure out what product you need and how much of it you need to get. It's amazing the variety of products they keep in stock. Vern's Customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. Their driver hit and damaged a large fir tree on my property. I fully understand that this is part of having large vehicles deliver product to our site. But he then hit our neighbor's fence and destroying a section of it. After several conversations and emails, the Manager Chris told me it was my fault for asking the driver to do something he wasn't willing to do. This was NOT the case as the driver did not hesitate when I indicated where we needed the load dropped. We have had several other deliveries to this location this year. He did suggest if I could fix the fence, he would knock of the delivery fee for our next load. Chris was unapologetic, accusatory and short in dealing with me and my neighbor. He went as far as to say there was damage to his truck and that I should be responsible for that. I will never use Vern's again and won't hesitate to share my opinion with anyone who will listen. read more

I own a small landscaping business and have been using Vern's for years. I have found their products to be very good. I've tried a few other topsoil places as I had a couple clients request them. I was disappointed. Vern's garden mix is superior. Also, they have a smaller bucket for their loader and are able to easily load even short bed trucks. I highly recommend Vern's. read more

First off I would like to thank the female office assistant who so nicely greeted me upon my arrival. Sorry I can't remember your name . Secondly, she told me that I wouldn't be able to get my five yards of rock til Wednesday! I explained my situation and she told me that she would try but wouldn't promise anything. About two hours later she called and said they would be able to deliver my product. The driver, Garrett arrived within 15 mins and was very polite and professional. Dropped the rock and departed! Don't use these people. I got one price at the desk and another when they delivered. They used two trucks instead of one for small deliveries and charged double delivery fees as a result. I wanted the largest one man rocks and they said they had no way to mark them. They said I could go out and buy a marker. They agreed to pick out10 of the largest one man rocks. When they were delivered it was obvious they had just used a front loader and did not try to honer their commitment. I got a few one man rocks and the rest were very small.
