My wife bought a yearly membership on her previous visit, but this was my first time here. There are lots of paths through the forest with enough signs to avoid getting lost. My wife wanted to see more signs about specific plants, but otherwise I have no complaints. I particularly enjoyed the formal gardens beyond the woods and the smell of the boxwoods. I also liked the variety of ferns in the Renaissance Garden area toward the main road. We spent about 90 minutes this visit, which seemed about right. We will return several more times to see the changes with the seasons.

Upon checking into the Kingston area for places to visit, this one popped up in my search, another hidden secret, none of my Washington native coworkers seemed to know. Well, being the plant nerd I am, it was quickly placed first on my list of adventures in the Kingston area. Beautiful entrance, not easily seen if you're flying by. Lots of hidden treasures throughout, plants and additional ornaments ( like the old dump truck or piano) some of the gardens, especially around the old homestead are well developed, but there are quite a few newer additions and more being developed. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, Norma Jean was great! Not only with the history and plants of the gardens, but other places to check out in the area as well. The Port Gamble S' Klallam tribe purchases the gardens in 2012 and with the assistance of one of the originators, Dan Hinkley, it has been restored, rejuvenated, and additional gardens are growing. It's worth multiple visits during the year as the many rare plants go through blooming seasons and the colors of new growth and flowers change. They also cultivate a nursery of quite a few of the rare and unusual plants, definitely there will be some purchasing in future visits. This garden is easily walkable and not large, well worth the ten dollar ticket. Enjoyable for anyone who loves nature and being outdoors. It alone was worth the ferry ride over to Kingston. Not pushy, lots of variety, reasonable prices. Fast forward a few years and over to the Seattle side. I'm a board member for a charitable organization, and every year we hold a largish holiday event for people with disabilities. Two bands, pirates, snacks, Santa Claus, the whole nine, even two trees. Last year I figured out that the people who donate the trees are the very same people whose tree farm we used to go to! They donate every year and even deliver the trees to a location convenient to us! Wonderful people!

Super friendly and engaging customer support. The folks at work here really do seem to care. Another thing I love are the random cool things that you can purchase, like gift cards, and various trinkets. That they have those things has helped me grab some last-minute birthday and other holiday items for friends when I would have completely forgotten the special day. At the onset of the pandemic, Henery's took charge and implemented numerous measures and protocols to keep patrons and staff as safe as possible. As of this date, May 18, 2020, however, things have deteriorated greatly. 1 of 5 employees I encountered wore a mask. 1 of 5 wore gloves. 2 passed within six inches of me in order to stock shelves on the same aisle I was on, neither wearing masks. Following the example, 2 of ten customers wore masks and also made numerous attempts to get less than 6 feet from me. There are no requirements for employees nor customers to wear a simple mask. Here's the thing. The measures we've used state wide and been enormously successful in reducing the spread of Covid 19. So much so, my wife and I thought it relatively safe to continue to shop in places like Henery's. Fact is, we have a 19 year old quadriplegic at home with 23% lung capacity. If he gets this disease, he dies. Full stop. As a result, we rely on the mutual concern and professionalism of establishments like Henery's to help maintain that level of safety. Henery's isn't doing that anymore, despite the lack of a vaccine and dire warnings from the CDC and epidemiologists globally. We cannot take the risk of killing our kid. So it is that today was my last trip into your store. Life will run a bit slower for us, as we order everything online and have it delivered, but seeing our son reach the age of 20 will make that well worthwhile.
