Before I give the details of my horrible experience with Vero Salon, here is some background: -I have very kinky, curly hair that looks best when it is cut by a stylist who specializes in this type of hair. -Two techniques for doing this are Deva cut and Ouidad cut. (We do not offer Ouidad currently at my salon.) Stylists who offer these services are certified after completing the respective training programs. -I am early in my career in the hair industry and want to become a curly hair specialist, which is why I wanted to try the Ouidad cut before I decide which method I would like to train under. -Vero Salon - specifically, Brenda - came highly recommended to me by a beauty supply rep who also has very kinky, curly hair. I wish I had spent my hard earned money elsewhere. Here's why: My overall experience at Vero Salon was HORRIBLE. For one thing, my cut came out choppy and uneven (see photo), but that is something that can be fixed. What can't be fixed is the absolutely disgusting way that I was treated during my visit as well as after. I had to leave my appointment with wet hair. Brenda told me I hadn't booked enough time to have my hair dried after she cut it. This should have been made clear to me when I booked my appointment, and it was not. Additionally, to my understanding, a Ouidad cut is supposed to be on wet hair. Brenda cut my hair dry, had an assistant shampoo it, and then had to return me to the sink to remove the shampoo that was left behind. About halfway through my appointment, I could feel Brenda rushing, regardless of the fact that I had arrived on time for my appointment. I took a selfie while I was in the chair - something that is pretty common in most salons and businesses in general - because I was excited to be trying a new salon and cut. Brenda berated me after my service and made me delete the photo in front of her, telling me she has cameras everywhere and that when I'm a stylist, I'll understand how unprofessional it is to do that. What??? In the salon where I work, we welcome and encourage our guests to take selfies (both during their service and after!) and post them on social media to generate buzz about our business. I didn't mean any harm at all and I certainly did NOT appreciate the condescending tone Brenda used to demand I delete the photo. Fast forward to leaving the salon with the uneven haircut. I told myself to exhaust every option before calling back to tell them I was unhappy. I let myself sleep on it for a few days - often times new haircuts take some getting used to. I even rewashed and styled it myself to see if perhaps it was the way it was styled that had me doubtful. No, still did not like it. So after several days, I called the salon to tell them I did not like my haircut and that my reason for calling about it was simple: I am in this industry, too. If my client left my chair unhappy - whether because of the cut/style or because they felt they did not receive top-notch customer service - I would be so grateful for the opportunity to make the situation right BEFORE the client took to posting a bad review for the whole world to see. That sentiment was completely lost on Brenda, who took the phone from the receptionist telling me she "couldn't believe" I would call back and that she "worked so hard" on my haircut. I calmly told her she was missing the point and all I wanted was to see what they could do for me to make the situation right. Then she asked for my salon's number to accuse my boss of sending me in to spy on her! Ummm, not the case at all and I was absolutely in shock that someone would fly off the handle like that in response to a dissatisfied client who chose to discuss it in a civil, mature way. I will never, ever return here - not to have my hair fixed - not for ANY reason EVER - solely due to the absolutely disgraceful way I was treated by Brenda. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. read more

Wasn't too thrilled about my stylist Cearabrook leaving her former place of employment in Andover Ma, and was even a little more skeptical to follow her here. Without a doubt even in a new environment she still shocks & awes with her talents. Not sure what to say except great place, great atmosphere, great women. Yes, please! I made an appointment for a trial 'do for my wedding. I was able to schedule it for the same day as our joint bachelor/bachelorette party which rocked. Pam, my stylist was perfect. I showed her a couple photos, explained I didn't want anything crazy and that my hair was stick straight and baby fine. She turned me into a wavy haired goddess. I had told my bridesmaids that they were welcome to do their own hair or have it done at any place of their choosing but ALL of them decided to have it done at Vero. Then I decided that since all of us were going to be in one place I would give them all with manicures at the spa, my treat. Bridesmaids gifts? Check! So I called up the spa and made all the hair and nail appointments. Vero was fantastic. They drew up a contract and let me know that they would have complimentary sparkling wine and pastries for us to enjoy while we had our hair and nails done. Everything was perfect. The pastries were delish- totally should have asked where they purchased them. I was crazy nervous on the day of the wedding and between the champagne and Pam I was a little less jittery (and far more polished) when I walked out the door. I highly recommend Vero Spa and Salon. All the ladies looked fabulous for the wedding (they look fabulous anyway, let's be real) and the whole experience felt effortless. read more

So I begin this adventure by saying this. I used facebook messenger asking about a blonde specialist. Whoever responded, wrote that "Annie" is highly recommended. So a few days later I drove to the salon to meet "Annie" and to show her my hair since I already had an inch of blonde ends with 3 inches of new growth which was naturally dark brown hair. "Annie" states that she has no problem and she would be delighted to do my hair. So I made an appointment two weeks later. It was over a year that I had lost some of my hair due to being on thyroid medication and some when I tried to bleach my hair. When the day came to get my hair done, I was very excited to finally rid of the dark hair and have extensions put in. So I'm finally in the chair, "Annie" foiled my hair as we chit chatted about everything from guys to different bands we saw, she seemed very down to earth. After about 30 minutes, my hair was rinsed and toned, and when I walked back to the chair and sat down in front of the mirror, my hair was bright orange, and my blonde ends were blue-green. I knew she didn't leave the bleach on long enough, but she kept coming over and checking so she should have seen that she should have left the bleach in longer. I should have known and shouldn't have let her do my hair when "Annie" said she likes challenges. So she says that she has to foil me again and this time, instead of using 30 volume, she's going to use 40 volume and told the washer to use clarifier on my ends to remove the toner. "Annie" foiled me again and he bleached over some of the hair that was already blonde! The second time "Annie" put me under the heat and again, she kept coming over looking at the progress, and after about 15 minutes, I was rinsed and toned. When I sat back in the chair, my blonde ends still had a blue-green tint to them, and the top of my hair went from bright orange to a lighter orange mixed with a yellow banana color. At this point, I knew that I made a huge mistake letting her do my hair, and that "Annie" IS NOT A BLONDE HAIR SPECIALIST!!! "Annie," said I would have to come back because she didn't want to compromise my hair. As I'm sitting in the chair looking at the mess, the ditsy receptionist came over to me and asked if I minded cashing out. I was charged 550 dollars!! The prices aren't in public view, so I guess they make up the prices as they go along, I was never told how much the services were going to be. As "Annie" began to blow drying my hair and twice I had to duck and pull away because she had the heat on so high, she was burning my scalp! After she was done, she began to brush my hair and got upset and told me that I should have never bleached my hair. Again, I explained that it had been over a year ago and that everything that was yellow and orange was her doing and that the blue-green hair was because she didn't put anything on them before she toned the hair. I couldn't believe she was blaming me for her fuck up. The only portion of my hair that was beautiful was the extensions that I helped put in. I had been at the salon for four hours, and I was walking out with clown hair! About a week later, I went to the salon to speak with the owner, Liz. When I got there, she asked what the problem was as she sat me down in the chair. I was like, hello, look at my flipping hair!! She then asked if she could bring "Annie" over so she could explain what she did and when she came over, she states, what's going on? I'm like, are they okay, are they looking at something different than what I'm seeing? "Annie" was very defensive, the owner advised me that "Annie" was the best colorist and that she would pay for a color to be put into my hair. Then "Annie" says that she's going to pick up a special bleach made just for my hair and that she will do an Olaplex treatment on my ends and added more bullshit to her salesman pitch. I'm saying to myself, do you think I'm that stupid and do you think you'll ever touch my hair again? When I explained to Liz that I used to go to a hair stylist who would get my hair blonde all in one sitting, (profile pic) she didn't believe me and wouldn't even look at the pictures I had. "Annie" had dark blue streaks in her hair and told me that she loves adding funky colors to people's hair. Oh and I almost forgot to mention, I gave "Annie" a hundred dollar tip to boot and why did I you ask? Well, I'm just not that way but I shouldn't have given her anything! DO NOT WAST YOUR TIME AT THIS SALON, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!! read more

Two people recommended this place to me, so I wanted to give it a try, especially since it is so close to my house. However, I left with an uneven hair cut. I have above the shoulder hair with layers and 1 side was very different than the other. I had plans that night to go into Boston and felt very awkward all night long! I left feedback through their website but never received a callback or anything from them. I went in with expectations that I would start with a nice drink, and was not offered anything (both my friends told me they were offered wine or champagne!) Too bad, since I really like Aveda products and wanted to love this place!. I did not specify for a tenured stylist, however I do wish I did. As a professional in the hair business, I am always nervous about having someone I don't know cut my hair. And when I wait until I am feeling like "I need a cut, and I need it now!", I never know what I may get. I made a same day appointment for a cut and style and I was scheduled with Jessica. She was absolutely marvelous!!!! She did a thorough consultation and she had great listening skills. She gave me a wonderfully relaxing shampoo that I didn't want to end. Stylists who give a mediocre shampoo never give me hope that my cut and style will fare any better. Jessica brought me to the chair and gave me a neck and shoulder massage before the cut!!!!!! NICE SERVICE!!!! My cut was great and it has been very easy to style. Even though I wear it short, it has versatility. The salon experience was wonderful and if I could give it more stars I would. I got a ouidad cut from Brenda on the recommendation of a friend. This is a specific hair cut for curly hair that I had been wanting to try. Well, I got the best haircut I've ever had, ouidad or not. My hair now has beautiful ringlets that I've never had before, and also looks great when I straighten it. I will definitely be back! read more

Katie Miller is the best kept secret in hair color! A Blonde Genius! I found her on a whim in Boston and travel all the way to Middleton to see her now! She may be young but don't let her experience fool you. She is top notch when it comes to understanding color and how they compliment skin tones, root color... i call her an artist since i told her what i usually like and she made it look ten times better by suggesting what her visions were. She has a real eye for dimensional blonde and making sure the color looks perfect and natural as well as blended just right. I've never been happier with my blonde hair color, and cut! Always had long blonde hair and she did an awesome job with a longer in the front long bob. Highly recommend her for Blonde Highlights, color corrections, etc. read more

The first time I decided to try them out I was a "walk in" and very fortunately was able to be fit in for an eyebrow was within 10 minutes. Rose, did my eyebrows and even though I was a walk in, she took her time and it was obvious she cared about what my brows looked like. They turned out fabulous. So, I of course decided to try them again and this time with an appointment. I however, arrived 45 minutes early and once again they had me back doing my brows after waiting only a few minutes. So I tried this Salon after living elsewhere for the past 26 years. I have had my hair cut in New York Chicago, Paris, Rome, etc. I was determined to find someone near where I live in Lynnfield (I refuse to drive to Newburry Street where a lot of my friends go and complain non-stop about the parking logistics, pricing and attitudes). So I checked out the reviews, mostly on yelp, and took a chance. I went for Jessica, since her name came up often in the reviews. I feel like I won the hair salon lottery. Jessica is thoughtful and intuitive in her approach. Asking all the appropriate questions up front (how much time do you spend on your hair, assessing your preferences for length, color, ability to use styling tools, etc.). Her goal is to give you a style that you can actually do yourself when you get home! Jessica is efficient and provides me with undivided attention, she has never rushed me out of her chair. ( I despise hair stylists that double-book appointments and make you wait while they multi-task and rush about working on other clients while you are sitting around with wet hair or color that is running past its time.) And for the quality of her work, I recently saw my old stylist when I went back to DC and she said, wow, that is a great cut! Doesn't get much better than that. read more

I recently had very bad experience with the owner of Vero. She was quite insensitive. I went to this salon to have my hair done by Dori, she was very nice. I enjoyed her and felt confident she would put a smile on my face. Initially I had my hair colored a dark brown. I then asked her if she could put highlights in. Showed her a photo of what I liked and she said she could do it. So I asked her to go ahead. First time, really no change and my hair still looked healthy, then I returned after six weeks to have it done again. Still the color wasn't what I requested. I left not really liking it and called a few days later to speak with Dori. She was busy with a client so I asked to have my hair lighted more because I didn't like the way it looked. I was scheduled to meet with Dori at 10:30 am. When I entered the door I was, greeted by Liz the owner, she was behind the front desk. She asked if she could help. I told her I had an appointment with Dori. I believe she recognized me. She then came and looked at my hair. She said that they couldn't lighten it anymore. My hair looked unhealthy and wouldn't stand up to any more bleach. I wasn't sure where Dori was but she never came out. I suspect there was something going on behind the scene. I was approached by another stylist who said the same thing about my hair. So I was to remain unhappy with the way it looked. The owner offered to do a treatment to help my hair look healthy. I thought that was a kind jester until she told me that she wouldn't not do the treatment unless I bought product. The product cost $65.00. I had just spent $190.00 on my hair. I did not want to spend anymore. I was hopeful for a discount on the product. But Liz said, the treatment cost $70.00. So I would have to pay the full price. I was quite alarmed by her insensitive demeanor. At which point, I left and told the girl behind the desk I would not return. Liz Verro doesn't have great customer service skills. My old hairdresser actually charged a little more, and the shampoo was torture, not a scalp massage! The salon itself is great, not at all snobby, which I have experienced at other places. I absolutely LOVE Salon Vero! I have been getting my hair done at this salon for over a year now. Tara is my stylist and she is the BEST! I was a box dye, hair cut once a year type of girl for the longest time and since Tara started doing my hair I go every 8 weeks and would never miss an appointment now! The salon is beautiful, clean & in a great location for me! The staff are so friendly and welcoming! The only thing that I wish would change is the hair wash chairs. They are not very comfortable and when you are sitting at the bowl for 10 minutes getting your hair toned, a nice comfortable chair would make things a lot more relaxing. I end up with a tender spot on the back of my neck/head for 2 days after my appointment every time. I think if the chairs were a little higher/more plush that could be avoidable. But that certainly won't stop me from going to Salon Vero! read more

I have been going to Brenda at Vero for 10+ years and getting the Ouidad cut. I have very thick curly hair and struggled with it most of my life. Since going to Brenda I love my curls and I have to include I don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't receive compliments on my hair. I have raved to all my curly hair friends about Brenda and all that have gone, well they are very happy. This is my first Yelp post and besides publicly raving about Brenda and giving the well deserved review to Brenda and everyone at Vero salon, for over the years I've had wonderful facials, and waxing. The salon is very welcoming from the moment you walk in. Over all my years I have not had 1 complaint. What has also brought me to writing this review is I noticed a very negative review written by someone whom I have come in contact with who asked me what cut and where I go for my hair for she also has curly hair. Unfortunately she did not have a great experience and posted at quite length all the details. After reading this review I don't find it completely accurate for anyone with curly hair knows cut length when dry for our curls shrink when wet then cut for shape and style when wet. I could go on about other things mentioned in this harsh review but one thing I do want to mention I don't think a good stylist she bash other stylist in this industry or any. Her review was so harsh I would be afraid for her to touch my head if she were having a bad day. read more

I just moved into the area from the city and was worried about not being able to find a salon as good or trendy as some of the ones on Newbury St. After reading some reviews and looking at their website, I thought I would give them a try and I was sooooo glad I did! As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist who gave me a lovely tour of the salon and spa. Then Danielle had me go back to her chair to chat about what I was thinking. I told her I wanted a change and asked for suggestions which she was more than happy to provide. I absolutely love the color and the cut. Everyone in the salon was so nice and welcoming. After a long day at the office this was the perfect place to come a relax. They make you feel very pampered, offering water, tea, and even a glass of wine. The best part is they will also give you a hand massage while you are waiting for your color to process or massage your neck right before they cut your hair. Vero salon and spa is an exceptional find on the north shore. No need for Boston this salon and spa has it all! From the warm wonderful greeting to the fabulous complimentary hand and neck massage that was so soothing and a nice surprise. I felt so pampered and was shocked at how reasonably priced for all you get. I had the best highlites and cut I have ever had! My stylist was very attentive and explained everything and answered all my questions, wish I had moved to the area long ago! Upon checking out another surprise, I received a new client bag which I have not seen before and I have been in many upscale salons. If you have long hair, you may want to try a different salon. They cut your hair wet here and I unfortunately ended up with my hair about 3+ inches shorter than I had expressed I wanted. The staff is very friendly and polite and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing but I'm not sure how much that helps when you are ready to cry. read more
