My review is based on my experience in calling this facility to ask questions and then visiting my grandmother. From the first phone call I was warmly greeted by their staff and all interactions have been positive thus far. The facility appears clean, doesn't smell like some nursing homes I've been to, the workers are smiling and speaking (rare in some spaces) and my grandmother isn't complaining (praise be), she is being taken care of. My brother was a patient there. He was frustrated with his experience. He asked to leave. He was an amputee who was unable to walk with any devices. He went from bed to wheelchair. On October 21, 2024 staff honored his request to leave. They packed his things in shopping bags and escorted him out of the facility. They never called my family. 12 hours later the police called me to tell me he was found dead in Manhattan. Unprofessional and neglectful. It should be shuttered. read more

If you love your family member, don't put them here!!! I wanted to transfer my Dad to another facility and it took forever to make it happen. It was like they were holding him hostage and just wanted the money. At one point even some of the nurses were telling me to "get your Dad out of here- we don't even want to be here." This Facility is not good DO not leave your loved ones here. My dad was left marinating in his fecal matter and lost weight at this facility when I came to discharge him they were so petty & unprofessional. The supervisor was not Plesant and for no reason. The energy was so off in this place when I was coming in the facility a patient was being pushed against the outside door it was so weird then when they saw me coming they moved the patient back. when I came my dad was running out his room and ran right in my arms when i walked back to his room it smelled like an overwhelming smell of urine it was bad I was so happy to get him out of there. When I asked for the list of medications he was transferred there with they said oh we cant give you that. PETTY rather my dad be sick because they won't get paid anymore for his continuous stay. Respect to the certified nursing assistants who decide to stay here instead of leaving, respect to the janitors who decide to stay instead of leaving because IT COULD NOT BE ME. If you work in a nursing home, you might have your own complaints but nothing compares to this place so far. The nurses are incredibly rude, ghetto and won't/can't answer your questions, they are there and don't know anything. The past director was not the best and this one here is no better. Calling this facility is a joke, you'll be left on hold or nobody will answer. This nursing home doesn't even do its best to make these patients feel at home. The workers don't talk to you or the patients, customer service here is a disgrace. Nurse Johnson was by far one of the best nurses in this facility. She answered you, smiled, she listened and she cared. The good workers in this facility don't last, I have witnessed this over 5 years how this facility is, it's a disgrace. I respect the fact there's certified nursing assistants who go out their way to answer your questions or lead you to find out the questions, I wish I knew a couple of their names because their very helpful and friendly. Johnson, Emily, Lynch and newest one I had the pleasure of speaking to Kelly. Responsible, professional, and know what they're doing, this facility should not lose any of them. There's so much more to say, I will leave it at this, do better, respect that you work for our family members and if it wasn't for them you would NOT get paid. Priority is patients ! I would give a lower star if I could. I am writing this review now because my Dad no longer risks staying at this terrible facility. They treated my father in a horrible fashion they robbed any clothes that we brought him and they could not protect him from physical harm. "Somehow " he broke his arm and having serious dementia he was unable to tell us how. He was afraid of the staff and it was a very sad situation. No one should ever trust their loved ones to this facility. read more

When I arrived to the nursing home, my father had not received his medication due to their not being an LPN on duty. His bed was soiled, and he had not been fed his breakfast. There are two aids working on the floor for 40 residents. There are residents that are sitting or laying in their soiled diapers, and have not been fed. There are no emergency contact numbers posted on the floor, and no medical personnel to help in case of injuries or needed medical attention. My father has alzheimer's disease and will try to leave the floor. No one is available on the floor to prevent him or any of the elderly to leave, and potentially fall down the stairs or get out of the building. This is unacceptable, that there is no one to watch, feed, change or medicate these patients. read more

Verrazano Nursing Home is a terrible place to place your family .They do not have staff, director of nursing is unprofessional, do not nothing about the patients, is rude to family members, use disgusted language thru the hallways of the facility .The facility is dirty , i seen roaches in my aunt room , the dining rooms are not been watch the nursing staff, patient are not wear ripped clothes and are always dirty. The front security are always on their cell phones and so are the nursing staff. I will advice you to please DO NOT place your family at Verrazano. read more

this place is a toxic place to work!! i never in 20years ever work under a Director like this one . the place has no staff . down to porters ,CNA ,nurses a year ago it was fully staff . down to Bailey no staff. i would not recommend anyone to work at this place.! read more

As a person who currently worked here I must say this place would be so much better if they put more effort into the residents then the staff!! I worked in recreation as I must say they don't give a crap about what will entertain the residents they don't put no trips no entertainment and if we ask for anything that might be alittle over the top to keep them happy its like pulling teeth they do not care they need helo but yet cutting peoples hours ! The facility is run by HR and I must say she don't know what she is doing she messes up people's checks every Thursday!!! And she is very rude nasty and just ugly not professional at all and for some reason she is still there she must be doing something good just not the job she is suppose to do and everyone follows her cause they are afraid she will fire them because some how she holds that power but can't do anything right the facility is old looking they won't fix it up it smells all the time they just recently started to work on the doors because a residents family member that had a mental problem was able to come in the facility 3 times in one day and take over the facility and break the phones and the flowers outside so there is no safety they leave the residents dirty they are always short in cna they don't care for there workers so they end up leaving please !!!! I was the Beautician at this nursing home for a short while. It's a small facility, staff and residents are great!

I personally recommend everyone to please do not place your love one at the Verrazano Nursing Home facility why ? Patient gets neglected in all aspect from care, medication administer, careless, poor hygiene. lack of staffing, staff has been midtread by the HR personal she claim she new but she still manage to play with their salary, HR i have seeing it with my own eyes she slams the door very unprofessional and careless. patients with a lack of awareness of cognitive issues walk out the facility and they facility hides the issue. Us family do not get any call if our loves one are send out , if medication is change or if anything happen with our family. The Department of health needs to start and investigation because a lot of thing in this place are not right. It a dangerous place to admitted your love ones. I took my dad out because I though I was going to loose him there. Please do research before taking your love one to nursing home they not what they sell on the internet. read more

I'll be honest with you its large enough to serve your family member but small enough to know you.

Well I wouldn't know where to begin. I will start by saying my mother has been in and out of nursing facilities for a few years for rehab for her feet. She coded on June 25,2016 t at another facility and was brought back by EMTs. I chose Verrazano Nursing home for her to start rehab and a long term plan. By far it's no where near where I live. When people would ask me what home my mom was in and I told them some peoples reaction was a turned up nose. Well may I add, it may not be the most modern facility with high tech equipment or state of the art machines (that hardly work by the way) but is the most geniune , caring, loving, professional and clean facility I've ever dealth with for my mom. If there were a slight change in my moms condition I was called every single time. The entire staff are absolutely wonderful. I don;t think I could ever have enough kind words for this facility.The residents there are treated with dignity and are very independent as much as they can be. Other facilities have most of their residents doped up, not here they interact with the staff like family.... My mom unfortunately passed away on 10/21/2016 and I don;t think I could have or would have done anything different. I love this group of people in it's entirety....
