Very nice group of people who not only want to help you but also know their stuff. This H&R is located in a strip, anchored by planet fitness, and also has the likes of Don Pedro Mexican restaurant. Inside are little cubicles but they're high enough where you have your privacy. One excellent feature about H&R block is they offer a "peace of mind" insurance where should you get audited by the IRS, they'll have your back and will go with you/help you and if need be, pay for any fees up to $6000, and they cover you for 3 years! Kinda amazing right? Parking is fine, multiple exits, convenient and really good people with excellent customer service! I called an accountant in that state I'd been referred to but five calls all went to voice mail and two messages weren't returned, so I decided to look locally and called these folks. Thompson was VERY knowledgeable and gave me all the info I needed to know on the phone. I offered to pay, of course. People in fields like this are selling knowledge and as basically a knowledge worker myself (network engineer) I told him I'd be glad to pay his fee because "I don't work for free and don't expect you to." He laughed but refused any payment though we probably talked for 10-15 minutes, just asked to maybe use them for my taxes next year. You can't beat that.

Embarrassingly, I was a few years behind on my taxes. I'm a small business owner and don't receive a traditional W2. Keeping up with my expenses and income was difficult because I never separated my business from personal finances. I reached out and booked a free consultation from the website. I was able to schedule for the next day. The young lady that called me was patient, informative and very knowledgeable. She told me exactly what I needed to do to get started and gave an estimate for the service cost. I gathered my documents and called again 2 weeks later. I was able to upload my information and send to them. I received another call to review the returns and confirm all of the information. I signed electronically and my returns were submitted. They told me about many deductions I didn't know I could get. I was very surprised to end up getting a refund!! I've since referred several contractors that I work with. My experience with Vertex, specifically Starla, has been exceptional. I have worked with other preparers in the past but non of them can compare to what Starla did for me. When I started working with her, I was behind a few years and I was procrastinating to file because I just knew I would owe quite a large sum. I hugely regret my hesitation to reach out to her sooner. Once she started processing my returns, I was blown away by how easy the process became and I was delighted to find out that I actually didn't owe at all. In fact, they owed me!! This is absurd because I have my old receipt and insurance policy which I paid in full for May 8, 2019 through November 8, 2019 and I had my new coverage from November 8, 2019 through May 8, 2020. The $25 is nothing but because there is a payment lapse in DMV records. I selected and paid for my insurance online and never spoke to a Statefarm agent. Apparently Amy Park is listed as my agent which means she had cut short my policy for a month which resulted in a lapse. Now imagine if I were to get into an accident between October 8, 2019 - November 8, 2019, I would have no coverage. I still don't know how this is possible. I clearly paid in full for a 6 months coverage. I even called statefarm today after I left the DMV and they said I had paid in full on May 8, 2019. Amy Park and her associates better reach out to the DMV and dispute the charges of the lapse and fix my record!
