Very friendly staff. Very tasty blueberry cake. We really like both the shop and the cafe.

But I wanted to talk about the restaurant and dining room because I don't feel like they deserve enough praise for the amount of work and attention to detail these guys put it to this place. When I say these guys work hard to really deliver exceptional service, I mean it. The dining experience is the icing on the cake after a long day of taking in the beautiful scenery just steps outside. This place just closes the deal on the overall breathtaking memory of Hallstatt. It's ambience inside is mostly "fancy" but there is no expectation to look done up, they understand most of us are traveling through, and this doesn't stop them from treating everyone like royalty. I regret not taking more pictures of the food but i got the daily breakfast buffet (two days) and sat there & ate my heart out for a good hour. I stopped in for dessert and got the crème brûlée with a glass of wine after touring and what a delight it was. I could've licked the pan! There were two guys next to me who did order dinner and they could agree the food was exceptional. I've ate at all the major restaurants in Hallstatt and I can attest, they are one of best ones. Definitely need to come here. ***NOTE THEY DO ACCEPT VISA & MASTERCARD***

There are many indoor tables as well (and they have air conditioning). Good for dinner for adults and older kids, maybe not ideal for parents with small children (with the per-person cover and plate split charge). Their dress code calls for pants and closed-toed shoes, but they seem to be lenient (we saw three other parties stroll in in shorts and sandals). The Saiblingsfilet was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly, the accompanying Eierschwammerlrisotto average. The Getrüffelte Gnocchi was flavorful but heavy. Fresh beer on tap. Wines by the glass: just three red and three white white available, but they do have several other wines by the bottle. Dinner reservations recommended. This restaurant also serves up a breakfast buffet for hotel guests; it's convenient, but the self-service coffee machine often has a line, and the foods available are just average.

There's actually more seating behind the bar if you go around. The menu is extensive from breakfast foods to decadent desserts! I came here mainly for the nockerl and it takes 30 minutes to prepare. I also ordered an americano and apple strudel. Our waitress, Alexandra, was very nice and attentive. She had to bring another table for the presentation! She also made sure I had time to photography the nockerl. It did not disappoint! It was fluffy and I love the berry cream and the ice cream that came with! It was just the perfect amount of sweetness and definitely worth a try! The apple strudel was bathed in vanilla cream (you can also get it with ice cream). It was flaky and warm. I love the cream it came in! Everything was fabulous! Many people came in to order desserts from the display! Thank you for a lovely breakfast. I enjoyed sitting there relaxing while enjoying the delicious foods!

Looks like most of the locals get cappuccinos, hard boiled eggs & some kind of bread with cold cuts & some veggies. I got the semilina porridge (Grieß-Porridge) which is equivalent to what Americans might call 'Cream of Wheat'. It came with fresh jam & was very tasty. I also ordered the Ham, cheese and salami with bread side (Schinken, Käse, Salami) and an iced latte. All were yummy. I wish I had more time to go back there to try some of their desserts.. they looked yummy!

This review is for overnight stay, not the restaurant. Good location, but disappointing. Felt more…read morelike a hostel than a hotel. We stayed in October, but the amount of tourists flooding this tiny waterfront town was astounding. I can't imagine what it's like in summer. Thus most hotel prices in town were still extremely high ($300 a night??), and this was the only affordable one advertising through Priceline. A free shuttle drove us from the P1 parking lot. The hotel owner was not pleased with our presumably late arrival at 8 or 9pm. Our room was on the third floor (no elevator). The bathrooms/showers were shared. In our room was a sink and a heater, which we made use of. There was an electronic tea kettle available outside the room, although no cups in sight. There was also a communal microwave and mini- fridge. No utensils or plates, though... Since the sleepy town didn't come alive until 9am or so on a weekday, our frantic morning search for coffee ended in a fancy hotel nearby. Tips for staying here: 1. Bring cash - no cards accepted. 2. Bring your own cups and utensils if you plan to make your own hot beverage or eat leftovers. If I visit Hallstatt again, I plan to stay in Obertraun, closer to the ice caves. The hotels there are less expensive and not very far from Hallstatt.

After taking a hard look at the $200-300/day options, we decided on Cafe Restaurant zum Muhlbach as it was one of the few that were reasonably priced. The owner (I think) was friendly and spoke English well. She also helped us find the closest swimming spot and someone brought our luggage to our room while we were out. Awesome! The room itself is small and nondescript but we did have a pretty patio with a fabulous view of the lake. The shared bathrooms (which I was dreading) was actually not an issue at all. On our floor alone there were 3; they looked renovated and were super clean! The only thing I had a major issue with was the quality of the bedding. I get that we're not paying for the Ritz, but the slippery, polyestery, heat-trapping sheets and blankets in a non-air conditioned room on a hot June night was unbearable. I had a terrible night's sleep and was thankful to only stay one night. Overall it's a fine B&B for the price and the bedding issue is such an easy one to remedy. I couldn't sleep at all but others may find it ok. The location is super central and there's an affectionate chubby cat for company.
