My late afternoon reception was held in the grassy, palm tree-lined section of Luce Court & Legacy Plaza, cocktail hour was in the patio area of McMillin Companies Event Center, and the dinner recption was inside McMillin. My top criteria in selecting a venue was 1) the capacity to nail both ceremony and reception without relocation 2) budget, and 3) a uniquely San Diego feel... NTC Venues satisfied all three easily. The clean, polished look of both indoor and outdoor venues offer a perfect canvas for whatever theme/decor you choose to create. And if you cringe at the idea of multi-venue weddings (like me), NTC is a great place to have your ceremony, reception, and pre- and post-wedding photos without the inconvenience of traveling to different locations. Less travel means you have more time to kick back and actually enjoy your party! :) The Event Sales Manager, Rebecca Duckworth, was definitely one of the most pleasant vendor reps I had the pleasure of meeting and working with! On top of her warm, sweet personality, she was very professional, generously accommodating of our needs, and responded promptly and thoroughly to any and all emails.

The grounds are beautiful and are now filled with various business establishments. A definite plus is that there is ample (FREE) parking, and that there are parking lots that are close in proximity to avoid walking a distance. A beautiful fountain and backdrop centers the promenade for some great pics as the sun sets. The reception was well attended with about 300 people. When you're Filipino, it's definitely a PARTY!!! The food was OK as they served 2 different salads, bread, 2 pastas and beef. I was most impressed with the pasta dishes. The tortellini was my fave. The beef was a bit on the dry side. The facility is a bit dated, but it does serve the purpose of holding a grand event. A concern that needs to be addressed is the issue of plugs, cords and outlets. Although the cords were taped to the ground, there were some cords that were clearly sticking up from the floor in the middle of the pathway. One lola actually tripped and fell landing on her kneecaps. OUCH!!!

This time around, it was just the 3 of us, to chat over some wine and apps. Had their April featured Pinot, which was amazing (had 2 glasses). It's good to keep in mind that they only sell their flatbreads on certain days and unfortunately, they didn't serve it when we went. So, instead we had the crostinis, which is perfect if you want a little bit of everything, but not sure what to get. My friend got the chicken Caesar wrap, and it was a lot bigger than expected. As far as the ambience, there's seating all around the bar that's located in the middle. So it's convenient to just walk up to the bar to place your order. Servers and bartenders were friendly and quick. Overall this is a great laid-back place for small or large groups.

I wanted to update my review, as I have been back several times through the years. Since my…read moreinitial review, there have been several changes.... some better than others. First, I still really enjoy the Carruth Wine Garden. It is nice to have an outdoor space to drink wine right in the center of the city. In general there plenty of parking ,and it is dog friendly. As far as the wine, it is very good. I like some more than others. More recently, I have enjoyed the Unicorn Red Blend ( a longtime favorite) and the Syrah. I love that it is dog friendly, inside and out. My dog loves going there and she makes friends each time. A change that they made recently is that the main garden area is now child-free, which was a positive change in my options, as it had gotten a bit chaotic in the past with children not being very well supervised. The still have a family-friendly outdoor space. In the past, there was always live music when I came. I was there most recently on a Saturday evening and was disappointed that there was no music. Also, the prices have gone up ($18 per glass). Unfortunately, I found the pours to be somewhat inadequate, though it depended which staff member was pouring the wine. They do not allow for outside food, and only make certain dishes certain days of the week, which unfortunately doesn't allow for many options if you are hungry. Water is readily available inside and outside. All in all, it is a lovely place with good wine to come with friends and your 4-legged friends. It has gotten a bit pricey, and I do wish we could bring out own snacks, but I still enjoy going and am sure that I will be back.

The bed was very comfortable and had us sleeping like a baby. There's a $50/night refundable fee to protect damages along with a $20/day parking pass if you don't want to park side street. There's a restaurant/bar (closed Mon&Tues) and a heated pool that has a screen above as if it can play movies. Didn't get the chance to try either during my stay but I bet it's nice. Front desk is very polite and very welcoming, had the chance to speak to Kenneth and Julanni? Definitely would love to come back.

My friend and I stayed for one night and were disappointed by our experience. From the beginning,…read morethe staff was fine but not very welcoming or friendly. We were not aware that parking is not included and were somewhat brusquely told that the parking we'd thought was available in front (and had temporarily parked in) was only for guests who'd reserved it, but there was parking behind a medical building next door (which was covered in tow away signs that made us nervous, but I digress). Unfortunately, that lot was completely full and led us to parking several blocks away from the hotel. The room we had was a mini pearl, which looked fine to us. We knew it would be small (which it was) and were A-okay with that. However, the room had robes in it with holes in them, the toilet paper holder was detached from the wall, and the bathroom door (a pocket door) was so poorly installed that it squealed horribly each time it opened and closed and got stuck closed (I had a terrible moment where after showering I was stuck in the bathroom for two minutes before my friend got the door open from the outside, as did she the next morning!). On top of the poor details inside the room, the window and outer wall to the bar/pool area were so thin we could hear each conversation outside. This led to the issue of the noise. We knew the restaurant would be open until 10pm, but the noise was extremely loud from our room (we got into bed at 10 but were obviously unable to sleep then). Only at 10:30 did it become quiet and we could go to bed. The bed was quite comfortable, no complaints there. Overall, I would not recommend the Pearl based on this experience. The staff was not very welcoming and the accommodations left a lot to be desired. The bar/pool area were very beautiful (and the food smelled fantastic, though we didn't eat there) and the location was great, but it seemed more like a hotel to attend happy hour at than to sleep at.

Here's the revised version:…read more The owner contacted me and offered a free event, which I declined, requesting a refund instead. She then offered a 20% refund and asked me to change my review, which I again declined. She claimed that despite paying for full event planning services, the event was subpar because I hadn't been involved in planning it. They didn't call. They didn't ask me to go their warehouse. They didn't do anything until the week of the event, when they tried to fit me into their random available times to walk them through my space via FaceTime. To clarify, I paid $2,000 for someone to plan and orchestrate an event. What I received was maybe a $200-$300 setup, and it's apparently my fault for not planning the event I paid someone to plan. She argued that I should have requested changes during the setup. However, I wasn't home at the time. The whole point of hiring this service was to arrive at a fully set-up event with my guests. When I arrived, they were still setting up as my guests were arriving (even though they were supposed to have been gone by then). So, there wasn't time to make changes, and it would have been an awkward conversation anyway. Instead of blaming me, they should have done the job they were paid to do or not sold the package in the first place. To add insult to injury, she compared this situation to eating a pizza and then requesting a refund. This was over $2k. It's not even close to ordering a pizza and asking for a refund. She ripped me off. I stand by my request for a full refund. She should have offered that refund on her own. This event was pitiful. I will never use their services again or recommend them to anyone.

There are great views no matter where you look. The indoor area is spacious, and the outdoor area is really nice as well. The staff was on top of everything. I would definitely recommend checking this place out for an event space. The things I didn't love were the main dishes they had for catering -- they were a bit bland -- but the sides were really good. The bar was just okay. The beers were super cold and crisp, but the mixed cocktails were "ehh" at best. Our company provided us with two drink tickets, so anything after that you paid out of pocket, though the prices weren't bad. If I remember correctly, mixed drinks were $7. On the way out, parking did become a bit of a headache. It's one of those paid parking systems where the venue provides a ticket for free parking, but people trying to figure out how to use it ended up backing everyone up as we were leavng.
