I like the mid-century vibes that permeate the Pearl Hotel, in Point Loma. The hotel is located right in the heart of the famous Portuguese community of Point Loma. Parking can be a challenge, and there are about five or six parking places in the front off of Rosecrans Street, including one marked Handicapped parking place directly by the front entrance door. The rooms extend in a U-shape surrounding the pool and garden area. The hotel's restaurant, the PonyBar, is also located by the pool in the courtyard. It can get a little noisy in the hotel with a number of Bachelorette parties taking place. Try to book one of the larger rooms, which are nicer. The hotel is within walking distance to the picturesque Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church, if you are staying over on a Sunday and want to attend Mass. My friend and I stayed for one night and were disappointed by our experience. From the beginning, the staff was fine but not very welcoming or friendly. We were not aware that parking is not included and were somewhat brusquely told that the parking we'd thought was available in front (and had temporarily parked in) was only for guests who'd reserved it, but there was parking behind a medical building next door (which was covered in tow away signs that made us nervous, but I digress). Unfortunately, that lot was completely full and led us to parking several blocks away from the hotel. The room we had was a mini pearl, which looked fine to us. We knew it would be small (which it was) and were A-okay with that. However, the room had robes in it with holes in them, the toilet paper holder was detached from the wall, and the bathroom door (a pocket door) was so poorly installed that it squealed horribly each time it opened and closed and got stuck closed (I had a terrible moment where after showering I was stuck in the bathroom for two minutes before my friend got the door open from the outside, as did she the next morning!). On top of the poor details inside the room, the window and outer wall to the bar/pool area were so thin we could hear each conversation outside. This led to the issue of the noise. We knew the restaurant would be open until 10pm, but the noise was extremely loud from our room (we got into bed at 10 but were obviously unable to sleep then). Only at 10:30 did it become quiet and we could go to bed. The bed was quite comfortable, no complaints there. Overall, I would not recommend the Pearl based on this experience. The staff was not very welcoming and the accommodations left a lot to be desired. The bar/pool area were very beautiful (and the food smelled fantastic, though we didn't eat there) and the location was great, but it seemed more like a hotel to attend happy hour at than to sleep at. read more

Honestly, beautiful place...the pictures definitely don't do it justice. Did a 2 night trip to SD and the stay was wonderful. The place was well maintained and clean upon arrival. The bed was very comfortable and had us sleeping like a baby. There's a $50/night refundable fee to protect damages along with a $20/day parking pass if you don't want to park side street. There's a restaurant/bar (closed Mon&Tues) and a heated pool that has a screen above as if it can play movies. Didn't get the chance to try either during my stay but I bet it's nice. Such a beautiful experience. Came down for a wedding and the renovated place felt so homey. They have a cute pool with a projector screen that they play movies on. The staffs here are amazing. Although the checking-in process was a bit difficult(seems like the front desk couldn't find our reservation at first), their services are great and made us feel welcomed. It did feel like they totally missed our reservation, so even after they confirmed our room, they told us to wait so that they can send cleaners to clean the room. It felt unprepared because we checked in around 4PM afternoon time, which is a relatively normal time for them to be ready. Usually hotels allow check in after 3PM when rooms are fully cleaned. However: I still cannot fathom the idea of paying ~500 dollars/night to stay in a room the size of master walking closet. It was hard to lay out the suitcase and had no walking space. There was also a hole in the headboard. We had to tell them literally 30 mins after we checked in, so they wouldn't mistakenly charge us and think it is from us. The bathroom is painfully small and water are unavoidably spilled outside. I think with this price, I expected my room to be better or at least bigger than a holiday inn. We loved the staffs here, but don't think it is worth the price to stay in this hotel for ~$500/night with holes in headboard, damp bathroom and small bedroom. read more

I love a good staycation, and The Pearl Hotel in Point Loma doesn't disappoint. This boutique spot is a remodeled motel with a mid-century modern vibe, where all the rooms surround a lively pool area. The rooms are small but super stylish, with thoughtful touches that make the space feel cozy yet chic. One of the coolest features is the outdoor projector screen by the pool, perfect for movie nights under the stars. The minibar and snack selection are far from your standard hotel offerings--everything feels well-curated and unique. Just a heads-up if you're driving: parking is limited, so plan accordingly. Also, they're pretty strict on checkout times. I needed an extra two hours for a meeting, and while they allowed one extra hour, they were firm about charging (I think around $75) for any additional time. This really put a damper on the end of my stay, made me feel rushed out, and definitely inconvenienced my work meeting in a big way. On top of that, it felt overly strict in an unnecessary way - the lobby was not full of people waiting to check in and the cleaning crew was busy cleaning other rooms. In fact, I had to complete my meeting from my car in the parking lot and I noticed not one person entering my room to prepare it for someone else the entire hour I sat there. A little grace would have gone a long way, especially if it would not have impacted their business or other guests. Overall, though, The Pearl has a great vibe, and I'd consider coming back for another relaxing getaway. read more

The room was beautiful the service was amazing. Kenneth at the front desk is more than wonderful. The food from the restaurant was excellent. Great location too. Only downside was the mattress we slept on. I got a little food stain on the sheets and Out of courtesy, removed the bedding on checkout day only to find horrific stains all over the mattress. Not sure what bodily fluids, or what substance it was that we slept on for two days. Woke up feeling sick and a very sore throat in check out day. The Pearl is more of a motel than a hotel, but since it is associated with the Hyatt brand I figured I would give it a try. There is a level of quality that I associate with Hyatt. The rooms surround the pool and bar area. A big plus is the movie nights by the pool. My room was nice. A good size, clean, with a desk, hardwood floors and a big comfy bed. There was also a small balcony, but the weeds from the bushes in front of the balcony protruded on to the balcony and made it uncomfortable. There is also no refrigerator in the room and I couldn't find an ice machine nearby. A text to the front desk regarding getting ice went unanswered. The TV is a smart TV, but the internet service was so slow that I couldn't actually use any of the streaming apps. They do at least have a lot of cable channels. Breakfast is not included, but you can order breakfast via room service. There is a Sunday brunch at the bar. My room service breakfast sandwich was just OK. And that's how I would rate my stay overall, OK. I really wanted to like this place more, but although I liked the room and enjoy movie nights, I couldn't watch what I wanted to on the room TV because of the bad Internet and I couldn't drink what I wanted to thanks to not having ice or even a soda machine. These are things that can be improved upon, so I might consider giving the Pearl another try on my next visit to San Diego. read more

A few of my friends and I stopped on Tuesday night for a couple drinks. We didn't stay overnight. Walking in we were told about two mins to be sat at the bar so we waited in the lounge. Ordered drinks, in which I ordered a Mezcal/Rum drink. I asked the waitress to please take the rum out as I am sensitive to it. She said no problem. Waited and waited for a spot to open up at the bar and still waiting on drinks. 15/20 mins goes by and friends are wondering where our drinks were. Then after about another 10 mins we were sat at the bar where the drinks were waiting for us which we all thought was odd. Why weren't we served in the lounge as everyone else was? We sat down, tried out drinks and my drink was really bad. I didn't know what I was drinking as it tasted burnt. I asked the bartender, who made the drink, to specify the unknown taste. Word for word she says, "Oh I am sorry I deceived you, I kept the rum in because it wouldn't taste right." My friends and I looked at each other in disbelief that she said that. From that moment on I was annoyed and so were my friends. Very unprofessional and pulling a move like that is dangerous. I ended up very sick after we left and will never come back. Be careful, if you ask for a modification due to allergies ect they clearly don't care. Completely shocked and still very ill due to a lack of customer service, concern, professionalism and care. This is a very small and intimate Hyatt branded hotel. A first for me. Reminded me of apartments. If you're staying with a group of people and everyone wants their own room you guys would probably book out most of the hotel itself. Not horrible and Not top Tier. I'd stay here again, booking even a couple days ahead might save you a little money. I slept well, bed was very soft and comfortable. I just wanted a good nights rest. My main goal and expectation based on reviews was finding a soft comfortable bed and I found it here for one night. No Fridge No Ice machine No Elevator (Only 2 levels) Snacks sold in lobby are also on display in room for you to purchase and enjoy. The bar seemed popular and consistently busy from open to close. We weren't a fan of the food that we ordered. Wish I ordered something original like chicken tenders or a burger but try it and judge for yourself of course! Hair salons and other things within 5-10 min walk. The Main Street it is on is busy and cars are driving a little fast. Ladies always keep a look out if you are alone and make sure no one is following you no matter what time of the day it is. I am young and small (so very personally) would not stay here alone if I was solo traveling. Ambiance of the room itself, was nice it was cute and clean. The bathroom is a cute idea but the water gets everywhere. No floor mats. The extra handheld shower head holder was broken so it was a struggle not to get water everywhere and most of the hot water was coming out the handheld shower head. (MY RATING FOR THIS EXPERIENCE) is based on my sleep and the bed itself so 4 stars. The area where the mirror is, is nice. Reading the other reviews there are small things that can be improved that will make it so much better! So 3.5 stars overall read more

this was our first time staying at the Pearl and we are so glad we did. The team could not have been nicer and more accommodating.. Our room was so cozy. Even their pillows are five star. I stay at the Pearl for one week every year for business. It's a great place for that vintage throwback atmosphere. I always have a good time. However, this year was a little different. They have about 10 parking spots. But paying for parking doesn't guarantee you will get a parking spot. They have added a full-service restaurant since last year, which gets extremely busy. (Prior to this it was more bar and bar food). It seems that some of the patrons for the restaurant take up the parking spots that are paid for for people staying there, causing paid hotel guests to park along the street if you are lucky enough to find a nearby spot. I arrived late, checked in and went to bed. For the room they have about 5-6 pillows on the bed. It wasn't until the morning I noticed that one of the pillows had black mold on the pillowcase (see photo). This was very concerning on many levels. How often are they changing the pillowcases and sheets? All rooms have hardwood type floors. I noticed under the bed. It was extremely dirty with dust bunnies. I noticed that the split AC that was barely blowing out cold air had very dirty vents (see photos). on Friday night, the restaurant was extremely busy and noisy until late into the evening. So if you want to get an early sleep think again. The restaurant tables are set up all around the the pool in the courtyard. One last thing. I got checked in after 8pm, so this didn't happen this year. But on all the prior years that I've stayed here (at least the last 5 years) they will charge you for "early check-in" (before 3pm). Even if the room is ready they won't let you check in early unless you pay. It's a cool place but they really nickel and dime you. read more

Stayed here for a few days, it's really pretty and a nice break from giant hotels, the restaurant is also chill and just a few steps away. The goods: staff is friendly and kind, both at the hotel and restaurant. The rooms are clean, cozy and fresh feeling. Blackout blinds! Drinks and food at the restaurant tasty and simple. Our stay was relatively quiet. The products in the bathroom were great. The breakfast area in the am is pretty good but extremely repetitive and pretty much all carbs. The not so goods: It's pretty steep pricing wise. Restaurant closed at 830 on a Thursday (why?) No mini fridge. Bathroom has zero ventilation. Not many places to put anything. especially in the bathroom. Only main suggestion to the hotel, please put out something other than bagels, or at least change it up! After 3 days in a row of the exact same thing it was kind of weird, especially when there are so many options to choose from. Would stay again for sure! I stayed at The Pearl while I was in town on a work trip. I arrived in the evening after front desk hours but they had a note to call a # & as soon as I did someone arrived to help me within 20 seconds. The check-in process was simple. It was late & I didn't want to look for street parking so I paid $20 for the convenience of parking in one of their 10 reserved spots. Some people have really been a bit harsh on room # 7, but as a solo traveler I didn't mind the mini room. Yes, it's tiny, but I'm not sure what kind of space people are looking for in rooms or what they're doing with that space. I've stayed in similarly sized rooms in DTLA, NY & Europe & paid much more for rooms that felt more claustrophobic because they didn't have windows that open which room 7 does. The bed is a full, the bed is comfortable, there's a nightstand, a desk, a few shelves, a luggage stool, a few hangers, a flatscreen TV, mirrors, lamps, AC, a hair dryer, a steamer & a full but tiny bathroom. Room 7 is on the ground floor. As a solo female traveler, I would have felt a tad safer on the 2nd floor. I can't say enough about what a good job they have done with the conversion of this place. They've honored the old and infused it with the new & achieved the perfect "vibe". I was there on Dive in movie night during what we consider "winter" here in Southern California so there weren't any people splashing around in the pool. The restaurant & bar were only slightly busy & the movie & noise were done around 10pm. The noise actually went until 11pm on the following night & there wasn't even a special event. All of the staff that I interacted with were nice. I wouldn't mind staying here again to check out one of the regular rooms. read more

I have had a long relationship with the Pearl Hotel.... never stayed there, but have enjoyed meals there for many years. Now, the dining area is called Charles and Dinorah, named after the first owners, but it has had a few different names over the years. Over 10 years ago I started to attend their Groove Brunch. At the time, they would have DJs spinning every Sunday morning/afternoon, open their pool to restaurant guests, and we would lay around sipping mimosas and cocktails after brunch. I had at least two birthday gatherings there, one in a private outdoor dining area, and one at the "cabana", a large table in the pool area. I love the small boutique hotel retro vibes. It has a very special feeling. I have been for many happy hours, dinners, and a couple "dive in movies" where they show a film on Wednesday evenings over the pool. Most recently I went on a Tuesday. My friend took me out for a belated birthday dinner. Tuesdays they have happy hour all night. I was also happy to learn that the outdoor area is dog friendly, so I could bring my spaniel with me. I really enjoy the atmosphere and sat comfortably while waiting for my friend. Once she arrived, we started to catch up, but also unfortunately, didn't get a server to come over for at least 20 minutes, and not until after we flagged someone down. Once that happened, they realized that they had overlooked our table, and then the service was spot on. We shared the baba ganoush, and each ordered a couple of cocktails. I really enjoyed the smokey flavor of the baba ganoush. Since it was Happy Hour all night, I was hoping to take advantage of the discounted cocktails, but was disappointed to see that the ones I wanted were not discounted. I decided to order the ones I wanted anyway. I do wish the happy hour were a bit more of a value. My favorite cocktail of the evening was called Flowers in the Attic, which had a presentation just as pleasant as the flavor. For our entrees I chose Mary's Half Chicken and my friend chose the Kahlbi Short Rib. She enjoyed her dinner, and I have to say my chicken was so tender and flavorful. I absolutely recommend it. It was also a large portion, so I was able to enjoy it for lunch as well the next day. Anyway, all in all, I very much recommend The Pearl for atmosphere and great food and cocktails. read more

A spectacular display incompetence and lack of integrity TRAVELERS BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK The Pearl hotel management does not honor confirmed reservations. They cancelled my reservation 3 days prior to my check in. Why? Some "maintenance" issue. They refused to give any more details beyond that. What did they do about it? Told us to pick a different week and they'll handle changing the reservation. PICK A DIFFERENT WEEK? What about my work schedule? What about my flight? What about my babysitting arrangements? They left us in a complete logistical and economical nightmare, scrambling to salvage our plans. And they hardly lifted a finger. We did nothing wrong. This was their problem, not ours. Why didn't they do better to help us out of this mess they caused? And best of all, when I left a comment about this on their IG, they DELETED it and BLOCKED MY ACCOUNT. The comment contained no false statement, no insults, no profanity. (See my screenshot). What does this act alone say about this hotel and their attitude toward honesty and respect? *SOCIAL DISTANCING EXPERIENCE* I booked a room via Hotel Tonight (because I decided to book last minute). I was definitely prepared for The Pearl Hotel to give me a micro-room, which was an option on their website. Boy oh boy, I don't think this even qualifies as a real room. The micro room is a very large closet. I'm from San Francisco, so I'm used to small spaces, but this closet takes micro too literal. I would even go as far as ask why the City of San Diego approved the construction of this space. Prefacing this by saying that I didn't touch anything but the door knob to enter, I went back to the front desk to ask for a larger room, but got a hard no. They said that they would have to sanitize the entire room. I even asked if larger rooms were available (I was willing to upgrade). Since they didn't answer my question directly, I'm thinking there are, but they can't be bothered. It doesn't make sense to me when hotels don't chose to put guests in better rooms when there are so many available. On top of everything, with very little guest and no people at the restaurant, it's already loud. I'm so exasperated. It's pretty laughable. If you chose to stay here, be prepared to sleep in a noisy closet. Expect your window to look onto a wall.I awarded a couple stars for the nice furniture, but I can't believe I'm paying over $100 to sleep in a closet. For an extra $25, I could've gotten a bigger room at a real hotel. read more

Sadly, this place has put a greater emphasis on having "cool vibes," rather than having "good service." From the start, my first room was COMICALLY small - which can be managed - however, the headboard of the bed was peeling and ripped, and paint was flaking off the wall. Additionally, the noise coming from the pool and restaurant was so intrusive that it makes it nearly impossible to find any escape or solace in your room. The staff was kind enough to move my room, however, the issues persisted. Requested housekeeping first thing in the morning so, after returning from a long day of work, I could relax in a clean room...but arrived back at 4:30 to find my room had not yet been serviced. Moreover, when I arrived back at the hotel there were no parking spots available (even though I paid an additional $20 for parking). What is the point of paying for parking if there are no spots. After I finally got a spot, then recharged in my room, I emerged to find that my car was completely BLOCKED IN by another car. Nobody on the staff could locate the owner of the car, so I was left standing around helpless, unable to leave the grounds and continue my day. On top of this, my keycard routinely did no work and required me to trek back down to the front desk to have it replaced. Finally, there is a TV in the room, but it is a confounding mystery on how to actually use it. There are no instructions in the room and you're sort of left to "figure it out," on your own. With so many options in SD, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. This place has a lot of growing left to do. read more

I stayed at The Pearl on my first night in San Diego since it's super close to the airport. I saw it featured I'm on Re-Motel (Magnolia Network) and was so excited to check it out! The room was very charming and was a clean, relaxing oasis after a long day of travel. I appreciated the eco-friendly toiletries and tasteful decor. The daytime staff was super friendly and held my luggage the following day, and I really enjoyed the breakfast and happy hour cocktails by the pool as well! The only reason I didn't give a five star review was because of an issue upon arrival. I checked in around 1am and as a solo female traveler, the first thing I do when getting into my room is lock the deadbolt. Unfortunately, the dead bolt was pulled almost completely from the wall (making it pretty useless) and I also noticed that one of the windows facing the walkway outside didn't have a lock. I'm not someone who complains but I felt paranoid about it enough that I asked if there were any other rooms available (there weren't) and I understood that, but the desk attendant kind of looked at me like I was nuts when I told him the issue, which was frustrating since I want to feel safe when I'm staying on my own in a new place. The response there could have been better but ANYWAY, I didn't let this ruin my experience and hey, I didn't get murdered either! I just checked into The Pearl for the Veterans Day weekend in a suite room. The vibe of the lounge and the room hits the contemporary mid-century aesthetic. The room is non-functional though. The issues - no place for any personal items in the bathroom. Install a floating shelf 8-10" wide. Install hooks in the back of the door or on the wall opposite the shower for towels and shaving kit/cosmetic bags. - no place for personal items in the room. There are sufficient clothes rods but only 4 hangers. Since there is no place for clothing, then 10-15 more hangers would help. Some sort of dresser or wardrobe would be better. Even a couple of luggage racks so that luggage could be used for personal items would help. - no room amenities that are typically offered in hotels- Coffee pot, iron, etc The left side of the bed is placed only 12" from the wall. Since there is a fixed floating shelf on the right which anchors the bed to this position, anyone over the age of 45 struggles to get in or out of the left side. The conclusion I came to in the first 15 minutes after check-in- The Pearl was designed to be a flashy no-tell hotel. The room is clean though. Clean got an extra star. read more

Such a cool space with a cozy, classic, "California" feel. We stayed in the Grand Pearl room #1. The room was big enough and decorated well. No major complaints. A couple reasons prevent a five star review; 1. The HVAC system is lacking overall. The remote control usage is a little clunky. Also, while running the light coming from the display is bright which is realllllly annoying when trying to sleep. 2. Bathroom exhaust fan is basically useless. Not much to add here, the bathroom was consistently damp. 3. Room specific issue; this side is closest to the road so it's a little noisy. Normally I'd just accept this, but the Grand Pearl room is their "premier" (costs more) option so it warrants writing. 4. Lastly, the room could have used a good dusting before we arrived. Now, this is still a four star review because the staff is super friendly, the pool is nice, the restaurant was good, and the drinks were good. My husband and I stayed at The Pearl Hotel last July. It was such a gem! We are from LA so a quick trip to see Morgan Wallen, turned into a whole weekend because we didn't want to leave. The Lobby and Bar was my favorite. I had the margarita and my husband had the old fashion. Both were delicious and hit the spot. From the bar we were able to see the movie playing on the big screen and people just jumping in the pool having a great time. There was a musician and an artist on the property selling their art. I wish I could say better things about our experience with The Pearl, which we booked for our wedding weekend. Not only was it an extremely disorganized process to book it and have our guests reserve the rooms (we booked the entire hotel and many guests were given inaccurate information when they called to book) but many of our guests had bad Experiences as well. Two had items that went missing from their rooms, one guest was given a key to the wrong room and literally walked into another persons hotel room. The manager did a lot for us and seemed to be trying his best, but it was not impressive in terms of overall customer experience. Such a bummer. read more

From the gorgeous mature cactus garden out front come up to the friendly, helpful front desk staff, the ice water with blood orange slices, to the insanely cozy and comfortable fluffy bed and robe and local photo book in the room to the deep bathtub, The Pearl has got the boutique hotel experience dialed in. They even recommended a great local seafood joint just down the street. They even made special accommodations for me when some unforeseen challenges came up with my trip. I waited a week for them to call me, but after being told 2 times they'll call me 'tomorrow' at the latest, I figured I'm done trying to contact them for an explanation on what happened. The pipe in our room burst at around 3am. We had a gallery show to break down and didn't get back to the hotel until late, and I was in the room next door with my girl friend winding down while her husband and my bf went off site to their car. We started hearing noise in my room next door, but I didn't have a card key so I called my bf back as I was afraid that someone had went into our room and was making noise in there. He came back, and informed me I needed to get someone from the front desk and I saw steam coming out of the room. I quickly went downstairs and found the night guard. I could hear the smoke alarm starting to go off: a recorded voice saying 'fire' periodically. Other guests began poking their head out. It took about 10~15 minutes to get someone up there and in the meantime my bf quickly turned the valve off (scalding hot water!!!) By the time I got back everything was soaked. Not fun. They quickly switched us to another room, which we appreciated, at which point I layed out my clothes to dry for the next days event, but unfortunately didn't get a wink of sleep and my clothes were still soaking including my masks. I borrowed some clothes from my girl friend but ended up having to drive 45 minutes back to my place to get an appropriate outfit, and was over 20 minutes late to the event regardless of us hurrying. I was lucky my art piece was not in the room on the one hand but it made us late to go pick it up the next day which makes us look unprofessional. The whole point of getting a hotel was to make things convenient for us, but ended up being the biggest inconvenience unfortunately. In no way is the pipe bursting something we or the hotel could have prevented, and caught everyone by surprise. I can't imagine how stressful it is as a business owner to deal with a situation like that and I sympathize truly. However, it frustrated me that we were given the impression that they were 'investigating whether the pipe was yanked out', inadvertently letting us know they found us at fault for what happened. The pipes look like something that needs to be unscrewed and yanking something like that sounds dangerous, IF it was something we did I'd like to know, but we went over the facts numerous times, and again, can't find anyone at fault for the pipe randomly bursting while no one was in there. The waters were shut off and no one was there to cause anything to happen. I didn't want to just leave without communicating what we saw and ask about what had happened so we explained everything at the front desk the next morning, but felt management didn't want to deal with it. I mean I get it, who would? I could tell the staff were trying and appreciate that they all did their best. BUT also felt this weird sense of being blamed for something we didn't do. I can't find anyone at fault and it was super unfortunate for everyone involved. I do thank all the staff that helped us out. That said I'm pretty frustrated with how the hotel handles problems, or rather, doesn't handle it at all. So I'd say stay here at your own risk. The staff are friendly which is great, but there is no management or anyone in charge that handles problems properly. I've added a star because the staff were each helpful and I appreciate that whole heartedly, so Thankyou. But the overall experience I have to say left a bad taste in my mouth, hence the lower rating. I hope that management reviews problem handling in the future. read more

It's only our first night but I am impressed. The staff has been courteous and thorough. The room is very nice and I hoots say I love the bath towels. All the details seem right in this small piece of heaven in Point Loma. Tried the baby back rib appetizer, and it was also excellent The hotel was a happening place on a Friday night. Lots of people at the pool bar. It's a small hotel so the noise level is a little high until after ten or so. Just be aware. Bed was pretty comfortable, but does sit closer to the floor than normal. read more

Locations great , rooms are great, but the walls are thin . very noisy. Restaurant doesn't open until 4pm and closed on Sundays and Monday unfortunately for guests! Overall it's a great small hotel , but it could also use a detailed cleaning around the pool and common areas. Staff were great and very accommodating ! If you're looking for an affordable place to stay but would much rather not book another typical budget hotel, this is the place to be!! This was a gem of a find and we absolutely loved staying here! My husband and I booked a last minute staycation and came in on the first weekend since they reopened after their renovations and the lockdown restrictions easing up in SD. It was also very central to most of the places we planned on visiting (7 mins from Sunset Cliffs, a short drive from the original Phil's BBQ location, next door to Better Buzz Coffee, and about 4 mins from Liberty Station) so it was the ideal hotel to book for us. Parking: 20/night - they give you a pass you need to display on your dash. They only have 8 (?) or so parking spaces for guests which is first come first served. If you miss out you can just park in the residential around the corner. Interiors: Appreciated the modern yet minimalist design in the room. The bathroom amenities looked all brand new - my husband enjoyed the shower and how easy it was to adjust the temperature, and I took a nice long soak in the tub (the bathtub plug is also a plus for being super sleek and ergonomic) Liked that they had full-sized bottles for shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap! Noticed how they tried to be environmentally conscious with changing the sheets too. There weren't any cabinets or drawers for storage, but that didn't bother us at all since we only stayed for one (1) night. I'd say this would be the ideal hotel to book if you aren't staying over 2 nights. Food & Entertainment: They don't have complimentary breakfast but they do have a resto and bar. The bar and pool area are super cute! We had drinks during happy hour and at night they show movies on a projected screen. All in all - had a great time and would definitely book here again the next time we're in SD! read more

Stayed here for my birthday! Super cute, loved the saltwater pool a lot. Coffee and tea self service in the lobby in the AM was good and saved some space in the small room. Bed was not super soft, but still slept great! Also loved the bathtub. read more

I was super excited to stay at the Pearl -- I had followed them on Instagram for a few years & loved the vintage style. The things we really loved were: -- the food at the restaurant, all really tasty & well presented -- the free bikes with hotel stay -- the design of the hotel & aesthetics The things we didn't love: -- we stayed in the mini room & it was MINI. the shower was so small we had to stand in the corner to get the water / not allowing it spraying outside on the bathroom floor. The bathroom was way too small for our comfort. -- the prices for the items at the desk/extra offered amenities were quite high -- the road it's on is super busy & you can hear that from your room pretty much all hours of the day All things aside, we enjoyed the experience but for the cost, probably wouldn't stay again. read more

I booked The Pearl Hotel for two days during Labor Day weekend, but I was very disappointed as the room was much smaller than the pictures showed. The check-in was chaotic, done inside the restaurant, and the man who checked me in wasn't friendly. I was assigned to room 8 on the first floor, which is right in front of the restaurant, so it's noisy, and the soundproofing is poor. It's loud because people are eating outside in the lounge/restaurant area, and there's no privacy at all. The hotel room had a smell similar to mold, and the blankets and pillows were very damp and clammy. I don't understand why this hotel costs $250 per night, and if possible, I would like a refund. Other hotels were priced similarly, but I chose this one because it was advertised as a boutique hotel and the rooms looked nicely decorated in the photos. Now, I regret my choice. The parking situation is also terrible, with only 10 spots available. This place is more like a nice motel. Not a 4 star hotel. read more
