I've been taking classes mainly at Jaya East, but sometimes with the timing of certain classes, I find that walking the 1.5 miles to and from this location is totally worth the trek. While equally loving and wonderful, this space also offers some of the best classes, instructors, the use of mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets and yoga stuff galore. The biggest difference between the studios is the setup. Here, students are lined up against 2 long walls opposite each other so that they will have 2 people on either side of them while facing the other half of the class. I initially worried that I would make a fool of myself, since now more people would be able to see me shaking, falling over and just generally being a clutz. But, I surprisingly realized that I enjoyed this setup more than the typical way of everyone facing the front of the room. As it turns out, there is more room for the instructor to move around, making it easier to see them and making them more likely to come over and correct my shoddy poses. Come to this Jaya. Or go to the other Jaya. Whatever Jaya you choose to go to, I promise it'll be the best Jaya around.

Ngone read quotes at the beginning of the session--"I am grounded like my ancestors...I release all fear and doubt"--that really set the intention for our hour-long practice. It was further backed by Afrobeats that created a whole experience. It was also my first virtual yoga and the digital distance was no barrier. Her yogi skills, openness, and energy transcended space. As a student, I attended a vinyasa yoga class that Ngone taught. She is an exceptional teacher with 800 hours of yoga teacher training. She is warm, compassionate, funny and vibrant! Her class focused on alignment and specific cues while maintaining a playful vibe. I highly recommend her as a teacher. You will move, laugh and leave feeling wonderfully relaxed! I look forward to trying classes with some of the other teachers. As a teacher renting the studio, I have been pleased with the space as well as the entire booking process. Ngone and Augustine are committed to customer service and ensuring an easeful and pleasant experience. They are both so attentive in helping to meet my needs for the kids yoga class. Finally, the studio space is beautiful, clean and intimate.There is a large skylight that brightens the room with natural light and lush green plants hang from the ceiling. The hallway and lobby are adorned with unique treasures from Ngone's travels (mostly African decor). Random passersby wander into the studio since they are drawn to the space from the outside. Even today, a lady came in and asked if the studio was an art gallery! What's nice too is the lobby doubles as a retail space so many of the items are for sale. I was continuing my practice with someone who encouraged me to go harder and longer while hearing the tunes of Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Prince and a little jazz as well. She got me to do a headstand on my first visit and after a month I was doing it on my own. WOW!!! Now I find myself telling all I meet about yoga and about STACKED YOGA. A good deal to try out their classes and teachers. I've taken classes with a majority of the teachers, including the owner Bob, and have really enjoyed every class. The teachers are friendly, knowledgeable and give nice adjustments. I also appreciate that they ask about your practice and if you have any injuries. The classes are steeped within the vinyasa/ashtanga tradition, which I really enjoy. Will definitely be back. **Note: if you are not familiar with the neighborhood the studio might be a little hard to find as it is tucked on the side of the block. This was my first time in the area and it took me about 5 minutes to find the place.
