We have no cancer but both of my parents, my younger sister, my grandparents, both granfathers died young, at 49 and 63 of heart disease, 7 or my Dad's 8 brothers and my mother's 4 siblings....so much heart disease and only a couple people lived beyond 83 and many died in their 60s and younger. The NM Heart Institute was working through Presbyterian hospital at the time but not for long. There was a split and they built a wonderful facility across the interstate and we feel fortunate to have them. My cardiologist saved my life. He was a GREAT doctor, and I am alive today at 77 because of him and the Heart Institute. My husband died of cancer 19 months ago but used the Heart Institute over the years as have I. I won't be surprised if I have to use them in the coming years. I have gotten such good care over the years. They are outstanding. I most highly recommend them.

I responded at 10:41 and the appointment was already taken and they informed me that when they send that message out they sent it to 10 people so you have to be sitting there all day long staring at your phone to be able to get a work in appointment when you really need one. WE have had good and not so good experiences with UNM Sandoval Medical Center. We had to go to the…read moreER on two prior occasions and were helped right away. The doctors and nurses were truly outstanding. However, this week we took our neighbor to the ER for broken toes and a broken foot. We had to wait 7 or 8 hours to get care because they were short staffed. More people are using this center and they need to make sure that they have the staff to care for them.

I had been going to the main UNM…read moreHospital since relocating to ABQ, and by chance, only got to visit UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center via my previous visit (since they happened to have a specialist at earliest timeline). The space is large, new and simply clean and in order. Staff seemed more people-oriented and it felt less hustle and bustle like it was at the main UNM Hospital. What I appreciated the most was....they had top notch staff! I went to visit a Urogynocologist specialist and...the specialist took the time to talk to me without rush. Very very good bedside manner...and even proactively helped me with some issues that I didn't even know I had! I also saw that my ENT surgeon and endocrinologist also moved from UNM Hospital to this center. They are top notch, quality staff! This really made me think that moving to live in Rio Rancho / Bernanillo is a real possiblity for me (never thought about it in the past as I have always thought to best live near UNM Hospital itself). The only thing is..just like any NM healthcare places, the waitlist seemed a little long. But once you are an established patient with them, the quality of service and follow up from staff is simply top notch and I'm very happy with my experiences there!

I'm not sure how new the hospital is, but it FEELS new(er). It's very clean without having that sterile, hospital feel. I like the signage. I was also amused by the vending machine that sells scrubs. I suppose that would come in handy should one of the employees forget or need a new pair of scrubs. The nurse who came to attend to my Mom's friend was very pleasant. She engaged in small talk about her own personal life and had a caring demeanor. Overall, I think it's a nice hospital.

I parked in the new parking structure, then walked to the hospital, not a bad day for a short walk…read more Arrived at the 2nd floor where I took a number and waited till my number was called. Check in has evolved and is faster than it used to be. After check in I sat for about 10 minutes before I was taken for vitals. The staff are all very nice. I returned to the lobby, I waited about 15 minutes the audiologist took me for a thorough hearing test. Was sent back to the lobby where I waited 15-20 minutes, i'm shown into the observation room. My ENT Dr. Meiklejohn who has been taking care of my left ear for years comes in within 5 minutes. He has the best bedside manner, very gentle and explains everything as he exams you. We talked about goals for the future of my hearing and referrals were made. He walked me to the nurses station, filled a nurse in, bid me goodbye. The nurse set up my next appointment. Off I went for the short walk back to the big new parking lot. Could of taken the available cart ride. It was a beautiful morning and I was glad to walk in the fresh air. I highly recommend UNM Surgical Specialities Clinic.
