So many stairs! Definitely not something to wait last min to get tickets for. Unfortunately, I did not plan ahead and was sold out. (Typically, I can usually get tickets on day of for NYC attractions since I do not want to constrict my schedule, but since it is verily new when I went, it was a no go.) However, if you do not plan on sweating your butt off walking those stairs anyways, then hey, save your money and you can get great pictures from the outside. I love the location and being able to walk the High Line to get here! It's like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Don't forget to bring your high limit credit card (or cash) cuz after this long walk from Chelsea's market to enjoy this wonderful structure, you can also get your shopping done at the Hudson Yard next door! read more

The Vessel is one of the newest and coolest looking iconic landmarks in NYC. It is the centerpiece of Hudson Yards, a unique structure that looks something like a beehive. It's really just a cool sculpture, nothing to do but climb up the stairs and take pics. But this pics and structure are definitely Instagram worthy! Unfortunately, the stairs to go up have been closed to the public due to a several unfortunate incidents. Hopefully they will find a way to reopen again with safety measures to prevent that from happening again. They do allow you to walk into the Vessel and take pics from the bottom floor and even from the bottom it looks pretty cool. Although we didn't get to go up I was happy to see that there is an elevator making it accessible for those who cannot do stairs. I still have a dream of walking up to the top floor of the Vessel. It's on my bucket list. Let's hope that they can find a way to make it safe for people to experience again. read more

A tourists dream. A beautifully designed space for picture-perfect photos and views. If you don't have an Instagram, you'd want to start one up to post the photos from the Vessel. I had no initial interest in going to The Vessel, but was down that way and decided to go. I did find out that they give out a number of free tickets per day. Once those tickets run out, you need to pay $10 per person to walk the piece, which is unfortunately what I had to do. Everything is self-service. They use a QR code from the kiosk to pull up the website to order. You don't need paper tickets, which is wonderful. In the winter, climbing those stairs was not fun due to the large wind gusts, but since I paid money I'm getting my monies worth. I climbed what felt like Everest to get to the top to take some beautiful photos. Honestly, it's really gorgeous. Maybe it's not a place you'll spend hours at or even more than 30 minutes, but there is an equally as gorgeous mall next to it, so maybe go there after? But overall, this is a not miss if you're visiting the city. I loved the design. I'd recommend going as close to sun down as possible, but I'm sure it's just as beautiful in the middle of the day. You'll get your steps in and heart rate up as well as some breathtaking photos for your travels. read more

My mom told me about this place, so she said when I visit her next time, I should go here and check it out. She knows I would appreciate wonderful architecture, sorta. There's construction around so we dumbly walked around the entire block instead of cutting through the Hudson Yards mall. Whatever. When we approached this lovely structure, we were pretty amazed at how cool looking it is! We did reservations ahead of time so we were able to show our particulars to the staff and they let us in. We were about 15 mins late for our designated slotted arrival time, they didn't give us any shizz about that. If you don't have tickets, just ask the staff how to get them or look online. 8 stories tall, cool looking architecture, plenty of areas for photo ops and your personal photo shoots. We came by around 10:30am so it wasn't super duper crowded but there was still a lot of people outside taking photos etc. Mainly stair walking, but the levels are short and plenty of landings to stop and take photos, take in the views etc. There is an elevator if you need assistance. Wonderful 360 views all around, looking down from top level is amazing, the views of the spiral staircases are so cool looking, neat vantage points and angles to look at everything all around. Colors are very cool too with the copper, mixed in metals and glass and concrete, fits in well with the NYC architecture. There's Hudson Yards mall right across the way, so that may be worth checking out too or use it to go to the restroom. Currently The Vessel has a light show at 5pm, but we didn't do that. There's a souvenir shop and a free self portrait vessel photo print on a cookie booth (lines are long). Anyways, glad we came by, cool architectural structure to check out when in NYC. read more

The Vessel was all the hype when it first opened, and I honestly struggled to understand why. Sure, the architecture is like nothing else in NYC but there is literally nothing worth marveling at once you're actually inside. It's just a lot of stairs... and terrible views. The long line just wasn't worth it. If we're being frank, the Vessel is just another tourist trap - in the middle of nowhere. On top of the underwhelming structure, I've read multiple articles stating that Hudson Yards "stole funds intended for low income communities." It's difficult to wrap my head around this but what I've gathered is that the $25 billion could've went toward struggling communities rather than a wacky structure catered toward tourists and a mall housing fancy brands. So interesting! I'd seen photos of this new structure and didn't know exactly what it was, so we set out to investigate. On the outside, it doesn't look nearly as big as it feels when you're climbing it. Located in the new 'Yard' district, all of the surrounding spaces were either super nice or still under construction. We rolled up and found out that we needed to have tickets to scan in order to go in. They're free tickets, but they require them in order to regulate how many people are exploring it at once. We quickly got tickets on the spot, scanned them, and started climbing. We spent about thirty minutes climbing to the top, taking pictures of the fun view, and enjoying. It's a quick stop but was a fascinating piece of interactive architecture that we didn't want to miss. Definitely recommend (get tickets before you go too!). read more

The Hudson Yard Mall is the hottest must visit place recently in NYC, especially the Vessel. The building is a cool, modern and artsy architecture. There is a fun fact that "The Vessel" is not it's official but temporary name. Some people like to tease its name as Shawarma, a dish in Middle Eastern cuisine, due to the cone-like shape. It took us only 10 minutes to climb from the bottom level to the top and there is also elevator for elders and disables. The views especially the sunset from the top is amazingly great. Cool art installation located next to The Shops at Hudson Yards, consisting of 16 floors of stairs arranged in a honeycomb type design. Unfortunately it's been closed for a while due to the influx of suicides, although you're able to walk around the outside of it and during the day you can also walk inside, although you can only stay on the ground level. It's one of the more recent addition to the list of NYC attractions, and I am happy to have finally checked it off from my list. It's located at the north end of the High Line, another must NYC attraction. If you're visiting on a Sunday, you can easily find free street parking somewhere along the High Line and take a very nice walk via the High Line to the Hudson Yards Public Square, where Vessel is located.  You should plan for your trip because you need to book a pass before hand, unless your itinerary permits you to wait around for a same day pass and come back later.  In my case, the weekend passes run out approximately one week before, so do book early. They are also very strict on time of entry.  We arrived one hour before our scheduled slot, and the staff would not even let you wait in line until 10 minutes before.  The upside to this is the line is constantly kept short.   "Vessel" is a temporary name, though I suspect it's going to stick. The internet is circulating with the term "Shawarma" due to its shape. Personally, I think it looks more like a pine cone. The views and the surrounding are one of a kind. The location is also prime and central - right next to it are the Shed, the Edge (coming soon), and the Shops (which has a very nice restrooms which I guarantee you'll end up using!) It takes under 10 minutes to leisurely walk to the top, taking a few photos along the way.  If you want to walk the entire 154 flights of stairs / 2,500 steps, that's would be a different story.  I didn't see the point, especially if you'll be walking elsewhere in NYC.  Just go straight to the top, and perambulate for different perspectives at the top. One bone I can surely pick is the elevator.  It unnecessarily operates at a very long 15 minute intervals and takes very few (~8) and selective people. Not sure how you can prove your need if you're neither handicapped nor elderly.  And it's a joke to a wheelchair-bound because the elevator's only stop is at the top and there the wheelchair would be trapped in one small area between 2 flights of stairs for another 15 minutes. It is meant for elderly visitors who can still traverse a few flights of stairs. It's definitely a must visit, given the location and the artistic nature of the structure.  And it's free! read more

Amid the raging pandemic of COVID--19, my friend and I braved our chances and went to visit the Vessel Saturday, March 14. Several nights in advance, I checked the website to get some free tickets. No available dates were showing. I was bummed and didn't want to pay $10 for a ticket that you can get for free. Without much hope, we walked by the area--and guess what--the Vessel was open to the public! We walked towards it and the guards chatting at the entrance just let us go! No ticket, nothing! What luck! We thoroughly enjoyed this new architectural wonder. Finally an original piece of architecture in monolithic NYC landscape. Really a beauty even on a cloudy, grey day. It gets WINDY up there! Wear warm clothes and earplugs/hat/scarf to protect your ears from gusts of wind. I couldn't feel my fingers after 15 minutes of photo taking during a chilly March afternoon. I was surprised to see an elevator that takes visitors all the way up the Vessel. I don't know who wrote that the several flights of stairs are too much to walk for a healthy person. Disclaimer--walking all the way up without using the elevator is totally manageable and will not cause any discomfort unless you're above 65 and have health issues. All heathy adults will be FINE walking up and down. The flights of stairs are very safe and solid. I'm afraid of heights, but not once have I felt vertigo or any kind of discomfort. The structure is not that tall to cause you distress or fear over heights and safety. read more

This is one of the COOLEST structures going. Granted, I haven't traveled too much of this fine world to really know, but from my vantage point, I will maintain that statement. It's definitely unique, and I'm really glad we got to see it on our recent visit to one of my favorite places. One "could" ascend this crazy labyrinth of a structure either by elevator or by foot up many layers and levels of stairs, but we didn't. Instead, we just stayed on the ground and admired. We walked up the 1.45 mile elevated Highline rail trail from the Whitney Museum near 14th street to the Vessel, arriving at noon in May. Several previous days of rain gave way to sunny skies on a weekend. SOL, as no more entry tickets were being given away for the day. Place was as packed as an ICE detention center! Fast forward to September 24. Got two free entry tickets on the internet site up to two weeks in advance for 11:20am Monday. 88 degrees Monday, we go to the Statue of Liberty in the cool breezes of New York harbor, and reschedule our vessel visit, getting free entry tickets for 11:40am Wednesday. Take the subway to Times Square, and transfer to the #7 Hudson Yard line built just for the Hudson Yards destination. Place is abound with construction everywhere, with new buildings going up next to the subway station. Tickets electronically scanned at the entrance, with no waiting at our time. Sign says "Occupancy by more than 700 people is dangerous and unlawful", which is why they limit ticket appointments by the hour. Bags searched, with beverages, food and especially glass bottles prohibited. They don't want you throwing them from 8 stories up! Takes 4 minutes to climb the 159 stairs to the top of the 8 story structure, with 10 landings to catch your breath. Not bad for a 67 year old geezer. I like the view of the Hudson river to the west, with the dozens of railroad trains parked in the foreground, and the views of the giant cranes towering over the frames of buildings in the construction phase. Check out the nearby Hotel Equinox pool, with several young ladies sunbathing, but no shots of young ladies on their bellies wearing a g string! Take pictures for several groups of people, including one group of 4 young ladies, but miss one person in the first shot of 3 people. Take a second shot, but remind the cell phone owner to keep the first shot, just in case! Big line at the single glass elevator, which can only hold 7 people, and is for ADA and people with handicapped IDs only. Stops at each of the 7 levels. Limited landing room at the top level where most of the people in wheelchairs will get off, which is why the elevator only goes up every 12 minutes. No, little girl, you can't ride the elevator with grandma. 40 minutes after entering, we climb down to the bottom floor. Big crowd around the center piece on the ground floor, jostling to get a selfie. Cell phones on the ground, looking up at the skies through the center of the Vessel. Groups of people, with elbows flying, to keep strangers out of their delayed timer selfie picture. "Me first" attitude. Welcome to New York City! read more

I love that you can walk all around it and get some cool photos (art is clearly not something I'm good as, as you can see from my photos!) Hooray for free things to do in NYC! I wish it was called the Hive. We definitely looked like little bees buzzing all around and inside of the Vessel. Since we are still in the first year of opening it was pretty packed with large swarms of people surrounding the area. I was also there on a beautiful fall afternoon which probably brought in some extra crowds enjoying an afternoon on the High Line. I suggest getting your tickets in advance, you can reserve a specific time for free or pay about $10 each to reserve a pass that lets you visit anytime you choose on that day. It's an interactive architecture experience! There are dozens of stairs to climb as you make your way to the top. The view was neat, but the experience is definitely all in the journey. Bring a friend to take pictures with. Hang out for some people watching. We spent about 35 minutes there. It was neat. It was unique. I enjoyed myself. I got a new profile picture. I wouldn't go out of my way to do it again or suggest going too far out of your way to check it out. However if your day already includes visiting the High Line or Hudson Yards- scoop that free ticket and check it out! read more

I spotted the Vessel's massive copper-toned pine comb structure shortly after exiting the 34th Street-Hudson Yards stop on the 7 train. "What a beauty," I marveled as my dad and I joined the throng of tourists inching closer to the building. We had already secured passes online the day before, so we joined the entry line for ticket holders. After a short wait and a cool photo op of our reflection on the outside of the building, we were in! We immediately noticed a group gathering around a circular area on the floor by the entrance. After seeing a few people place their phones on the floor to capture a shot of the top of the structure, my dad and I joined in to the do the same. We took one with the both of us in it which made us look like characters in the Blue Man Group. We got a kick out of that! We decided to take our time and roam at our own pace while taking ample stops to check out the surrounding area, snap photos, and chat. This leisurely manner of exploring the structure is an ideal way to admire the beauty of the landmark while taking stock of how the area has changed over the years. Each nook and cranny of the Vessel offers its own instagrammable moment. Sure, you could climb all 2500 steps at an accelerated pace, but what's the rush? The Vessel is near to shopping, dining as well as the Shed (a performing arts center) and the Edge (an observation deck). You could easily turn your trip there into a full day event. After making it to the top and then making our way back down all the flights of steps, my dad and I headed to the High Line (an elevated park nearby) to continue our touristy day out. read more

If anyone is looking for an interesting art piece to admire and take pictures of, the Vessel is a good stop. Both the exterior and interior of the piece is pretty cool to see but do note that the entire thing is outdoors. So dress warm if you plan to visit this in the late fall/winter time frame! Tickets: There is a limited amount of "free" tickets available, so make sure to check the website for the info. If you opt for an "anytime" pass ($10), this would be more flexible in allowing you to come to the Vessel at anytime of the day and can be purchased online. I went with this option and it worked well. Expectations: Expect to see a lotttttt of people, especially out in front of the Vessel. Once you're inside the structure, there are empty areas to take pics.....Best to be quick with the pictures as there are always people wandering/running around. Time: Go either earlyyyyy morning or sunset time. I went around sunset and it was a treat to see how the lighting can change the look of the Vessel from day to night. I'll update this review for the walk and stairs once I've been inside and done that. We did book the free advance tickets to visit 7 days in advance. But it was SO cold and windy the weekend we were in NYC that once we arrived we decided to walk around and enjoy it from below and skip the wind burn. There was a large line when we arrived about 20 minutes before our scheduled time. I'm not sure if that's for walk ups or what but I'm pretty sure they do have a maximum amount of people who can be doing this at a time so maybe it was ticket holders and walk up? Not so sure. But - it's beautiful and it's neat and it's cool. It's a shiny marvel and looks like the beehive to me from the old Resident Evil movies above ground and adults can climb on it and marvel at views of the city from Hudson Yards. It's thousands of stairs. So be prepared if you're going to climb it. Also you'll want to visit the website in advance and reserve tickets so you can avoid doing it day of. There are only so many. Also, when you're done playing on this, or before, you can shop in the many many shops right next door or walk on the highline. Win win! read more

What the heck is this thing? Not sure, but it is an interesting piece of architecture in Hudson Yards area, at the north end of the High Line. If you are so inclined, you can hike it up. Tickets are free, however you have to reserve them ahead of time online on their websites. You are able to reserve tickets up to 2 weeks in advance. When I tried, they sold out. There is a kiosk that you can sign up for tickets on the same day, however we had to wait about 1-2 hours before our scheduled time. VESSEL: The actual vessel looks cool, however I did feel like it was somewhat of a letdown. I don't know...New York is already limited with space as it is and they build this huge (but cool) architectural thing that really serves...no purpose lol. You climb stairs to go up and down the vessel. There is an elevator, however it is not accessible for the general public and only reserved for the handicapped. Ok, I'm sure you know that the "Vessel is not a who. But what is this thing they call the "Vessel"? The Vessel is one the newest structures in The Big Apple. I believe that it costed somewhere in the neighborhood of $150 million dollars. The Vessel, which some have been calling it different names such as bee hive, a giants wastepaper basket, a huge shawarma, but many look at it as being a photographer's dream, social media has gone crazy with different angles of the Vessel. Some New Yorkers don't care for it, but remember people didn't like the Eiffel Tower when it was built either, but look at it now. Many people are asking how much does it cost to walk up? It is actually free to the public. You can get tickets a couple of ways: For same day tickets, it is on a first served basis. You can go onsite and starting at 9:30am they hand out tickets with different times for you to come back. Tickets are also available at interactive kiosks in the shops and restaurants at 20 Hudson Yards. For future dates within a 14 day period you can go to https://www.hudsonyardsnewyork.com/discover/vessel and reserve so to speak and get your tickets. They will ask your what time and day you want to go so you will have to know that. If you don't know what time you and your party wants to go, then you can buy a Flex Pass that costs $10, (which by the way is limited) which you can go anytime during that specific day. So the Vessel is a structure with about 2,500 individual steps with landings to catch your breath, take in the view, or snap some pictures. Well this structure leads to NOTHING but upwards of 15 or 16 stories in the air. If you are handicapped and can't walk, you can wait in line (the line is usually long and painfully slow) for the small elevator (the elevator was down for repairs today when we went). Was it worth it? Well that all depends on you and your outlook on life. I like to try to do things once. My boyfriend proposed to me here and so this spot will forever hold a special place in my heart! Aside from that personal note, this space is truly lovely!! A new architecture attraction in nyc is always exciting because one can only imagine the number of ideas, meetings, planning etc that went into constructing a public space like the Vessel! This structure is conveniently at the end of High Line Park. It offers lovely River views/Jersey/train track views. It's a nice space to walk around and enjoy. They crowd control the number of people by using an online reservation system so it never gets too crowded. At it core it's a bunch of staircases and landing but there's nothing like this in the world and for that it will slowly become a nyc landmark! The description on Wikipedia was daunting: " ... rises 16 stories and consists of 154 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, and 80 landings for visitors to climb. Vessel is the main feature of the 5-acre (2.0 ha) Hudson Yards Public Square." As an asthmatic, I didn't know how I'd manage. But I two weeks prior I ordered free timed tickets for Friday, 11/8/19, from 11-12. We got there around 11:15 & had a short wait to get into the structure. I did try walking up 3 landings, but was so winded that husband and I walked down to wait for the elevator up - slow, and on a timer every 15 minutes up and down. So when we got in line as it went up, we waited thirty minutes. While we waited, we tried to stay warm. Winds were freezing. Tourists like ourselves took selfies in the center circle looking up, cast in blue. Once at the top, the winds were more fierce than on the ground level. The views at every angle were amazing. We did have death grips on our iPhone cameras due to the wind. The walk down was not difficult. Each landing gave us the opportunity to catch our breath. Each landing gave us a view to take that breath away. We are happy to have had this experience as it gave us a new perspective on NYC, and was unique as well as enthralling. Words are not enough to describe this awesomeness. The hive, honeycomb, whatever you want to call it was an absolutely beautiful and creative piece of structure. As attractive as it looks from the outside, once you get inside, it's even more crazy! I walked all the way to the top which didn't take long at all and was able to see views of Manhattan, took some great shots and just absorbed the views on view on views. Located closely next to Equinox and Neiman, I stopped by both places following my visit to the hive. It's a great attractive for all kinds and you can even grab a bite at the mall right after. Pro tip: make sure you make a reservation on their website to enter The Vessel, no walk ups. read more

Keep in mind that anything above the ground/plaza level was closed to visitors when I visited, but that being said, I personally find the design stunning. I know others may disagree. That being said, it was crazy crowded even for a weekday. Definitely hard to get pictures without other people being in them. Really wish I could have seen more of the structure, but I understand why they had to temporarily close it off. It's located right by the Highline, The Shed, The Edge, and The Shops and Restaurants at Hudson Yards, so you can knock a bunch of things off of your list on the same day. read more

The Vessel is an interactive art piece imagined by Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio. It opened up March 2019 and is comprised of 154 flights of stairs (or 2,500 steps) and 80 landings! You must reserve tickets in advance to enter, which is currently 1-week out right now. They're free and as long as you arrive within the hour you booked, you can stay as long as you want. No doubt a lot of steps to climb to get to the top, but it's really neat to visit. You'll want to explore every level to get that perfect photo angle anyway. Once you enter, a lot of people were laying their phones down on the center of the floor facing up to take a photo of the sky view. For those that would rather get a ride to the top, there is a really cool looking elevator but the wait was long and the cabin seems tiny. The closest train station is 34th Street Hudson Yards, which is conveniently located ~50 yards away. When you're done, you can head over to the Hudson Yards Mall for some food and beverage! read more

The vessel was an interesting landmark too visit. I was working in the area and realize this was here. We then discovered that they had same day tickets for free. They gave us timed tickets and we waited about an hour an half to get in. They have a mall called "the shops " right next door and you can spend sometime there while you wait. The vessel when we went inside it was not overcrowded security was really nice and helpful. It was also not as overwhelming as I thought it be after all climbing all those stairs .The view was gorgeous perfect way to spend some time exploring NYC and taking advantage of it being completely free. They have elevators available it's only if you have a disability that you can use it. There's plenty to eat in the area. They didn't check our bags either so you're able to bring water. Trust me you're going to need it. I would definitely recommend to check them out. read more

Everyone's favorite stairway to nowhere, The Vessel at Hudson Yards retains its capacity to stun as you traverse sixteen stories of ingenious lattice work offering spectacular views of Manhattan's west side and the Hudson River. While not a perfect analogy the structure reminds me of an alien artifact, perhaps a dwelling designed by the Borg Collective of Star Trek lore. I laugh at most New York residents who strenuously avoid doing anything touristy in their own town for fear of being outed as uncool. To all the reluctant natives I say, do this - visit The Vessel and then spend $130 on a pair of socks in the surrounding shops just to prove how smart you really are... your secret is safe with me. The Vessel is a legitimate must see destination in NYC. Resistance is futile. An easy five stars. read more

Don't let your trip to NYC pass by without a visit to the Vessel. (And avoid using the elevator to get the full experience unless you Truly have a disability.) I love walking up and down stairs and this place is a haven to do it. Tickets were free the day we were there and no line. But I am told it can get busy. It's next door to a VERY upscale mall that has the highest high end retail in the world. It's also next to the new Equinox Hotel. It's just a fun thing to climb up. Tell yourself no lunch or dinner unless I walk to the top and back down. read more

Entry into the vessel is free but you have to book your tickets online before you go. Ticket availability opens up two weeks prior, and weekend dates go quickly, so just be mindful of that when reserving. You can book up to 6 tickets - not sure if this is per email address or per transaction. There are different time slots you get book, and you have an hour to enter the vessel. So for example, if your slot is 11-12, you can enter any time after 11 but before 12. Once you're in, you can stay as long as you like, although we climbed up and came back down within a half an hour, and this included picture-taking. I booked 4 tickets for a Sunday. They do check/scan your tickets (OK to show them on your phone) but we had an extra person with us and they let her enter as well. I guess maybe because it wasn't too crowded that day. Definitely worth a visit, especially since it's free! So go now, because who knows how long that will last. Tip - they also have elevators in case you don't want to climb the stairs. read more

This is a beautiful and amazing looking structure, we would have gone up but couldn't get in until 3-4 hours afterwards and didn't want to hang out for that long just to go up the layers of the structure. It's quite fascinating to look at as it from down below, it's quite an architect marvel and brings a functional bridge to the city through this modern hollow edifice. I will try to come back tomorrow if I don't have to wait 3 hours for the next time slot. Entry is free, just scan the code to buy free tickets but you must select an available time slot; that's the catch with the ticket. read more

Cool building and trendy upcoming neighborhood. I recommend walking on the high line to vessel in Hudson Yards. We couldn't go up to the top due to the closure but it was fun to see. There is a help counter that can order you a cab in a couple minutes and it was so helpful and saved us a lot of time and hassle! read more
