Ever since I saw this sculpture on Project Runway, I placed it on my bucket list to check out. This art installation did not disappoint, when I saw it, I just remember thinking... WOW. From the exterior to the interior of this statue was incredible. I understand why we can't go passed the first floor. I was disappointed that Vessel was temporary closed when I visited on 5/1/2023 due to four people have died by jumping off the sculpture. It's so sad! This is a remarkable and unique architecture. We were able to go in the ground level and take few pictures and of course the exterior. I was hoping to climb up to the top and enjoy the view. Hopefully, they can find a way to re-open it. The Vessel is located in Hudson Yards. The honeycomb like structure has 16 stories with stairs and landings for visitors to climb. For all New Yorkers, it's free for us on Thursdays. The only catch which I really should have read the website more clearly. You have to reserve tickets online ahead of time. Unfortunately, we didn't and they were completely booked. So what to do. We took a few pictures and walked around because is was a gorgeous day we were able to see a sunset. We also went to the Hudson Yard Mall which was very nice and had a bunch of high end stores but as you go up in the mall the stores become more affordable. Coming here is a perfect way to spend a few hours plus getting here on the 7 train is just so easy. read more

Very cool artistic modern contemporary sculpture which you can actually go inside and climb. For $10, its a pretty cheap activity for NYC. But it also means climbing up lots and lots of stairs, which you might already be exhausted from a a full day of sight seeing. It is very awesome though with great photo ops. I'd recommend going a sunset or night when the lights go on. I wish they had built a circular slide for going back down...that would've made it a 5 Star! read more

Whenever I take trips to NYC, I like stopping by Vessel. Hudson Yards is a great place to walk around and to start a trip down the High Line to Chelsea Market. I wouldn't say there's too much to do in this area (other than Shopping and maybe seeing the Edge), but all in all it's not a bad sight! read more

Illenium and The Chainsmokers is what brought me here! Such a beautiful work of art. I really really wished we was able to walk on it, but I understood the reasoning. I wish the staff handled the room in the vessel more and some were just stilling around and taking up space while others where trying to find a spot to take a photo or take in the moment. You can no longer go up in the Vessel since too many people have jumped from there - sadly. So you just get to look at it from a far. The 150 ' vessel is still a huge attraction at hudson Yards. It really is beautiful. Thomas Heatherwick, architect and his group build this and it is wonderful. I love walking around it and love looking up at the spiral staircase. It does have 2500 steps with 154 flights of stairs and 80 landings. You could really get a lot of selfies with all of those angles! Enjoy it from a far and take your pix! read more

This structure is located in Hudson Yards and near Ground Zero. It was opened in March 2019 and definitely demands your attention. I had to go visit. The structure is astounding. It is not really a building, but an interactive piece of art. It is virtually a spiral staircase comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs. Visitor can get remarkable views of the city, and the river from here....If it was open. It reminds me of a space aged bee-hive. It stands 150' high and is the work of architect Thomas Heatherwick of Heatherwick Studios. Unfortunately, you can not go up because it is currently closed due to a wave of suicides being committed there. Access is restricted to the ground-level base, which is free. There is no plan to open it back up until they can figure out how to stop the suicides there. Even though you cannot really go in, and I understand why, it is still a nice piece of art to visit. I consider it a large sculpture and a place to get some good pictures. I would recommend making it part of a larger itinerary though as you would probably not spend a lot of time there. Getting here via the subway is relatively easy, as there is a subway station across the street. There are garages nearby, but they can become pricey. I really like this place and hope that they are able to safely open it back up fully. It is deinitely a must see while in NYC. read more

This is a unique piece of architecture but it's design is really nice. I came here after leaving The Highline and I did some shopping inside (located behind the vessel). I also came back to watch TV later that week and it was like being at the movies, they have food vendors nearby to grab a bite while you watch shows and they also have lounge chairs around. At the time you're not able to walk up the vessel due to reasons I won't mention here, but until the city can figure out a better solution to make it safer they have closed that part. read more

New York's staircase, located in the Hudson Yards! Visited during my most recent stay in NYC. Really nice area to eat lunch or visit with friends. The area is packed with locals and tourists. This was of course another bucket list places for me. Parking is crazy so good luck, no tips on public trans. I had alot of other stops, so parking and walking was best for me. I didn't spent alot of time here. The only floor open was bottom entry way. Took a few pics and on my way I went. Yes its absolutely amazing and gorgeous inside and out. You have to see for yourself. I won't bore you with the history... Unfortunately people have died by jumping from the sculpture since it opened in 2019. It has been closed since last summer Aug '22. My only hope is to visit during Xmas time. read more

This place has been a bookmark since it opened in 2019. At the time, it was all over social media and I just thought it was so cool-looking. After opening to the public in March of 2019, the Vessel was closed indefinitely to the public after three suicides at the site. With 16 floors and standing 150-feet-tall, visitors can now only enter the first floor of the structure. Even though you can't go any higher, it is still very cool to look at in person and there are still plenty of people who want to see it. read more

Beautiful interactive architectural feat. 2,500 steps. 154 flights of stairs. 80 landings. 16 flights of stairs. One elevator. The Vessel is such an interesting structure. Imagined and designed as a way to get different perspectives, it is fun to climb to the first landing and take some very interesting photos. Unfortunately, that is as far as you can go until they find a way to make it safe for all who visit. The Vessel is shaped like an inverted 150 foot beehive. With very low barriers over the bannisters, it also has been the scene of four suicides. The latest, a fourteen year old boy on July 29, 2021 who visited with his family. Since that time, The Vessel has been closed except the base. The Vessel is a stark reminder of the struggles that people face with depression and mental health issues. Although I didn't know that it was the site of four suicides when we visited, that concern was raised, but tragically not addressed, during the design and construction process. Four lives lost. Very sad indeed. read more

Very stunning art piece. Free to go into, and the line was not that long; took about 5-10 minutes to get inside. Once inside, there's very limited time to take pictures. There are several staircases you can go up, but only to one level. The security guards/workers try to keep the flow of people continuous, so there's not too much time to take pics inside. I remember when this structure was being built and how the honeycomb skeleton looked so cool. Sixteen floors, 154 flights, 2,500 steps. I didn't realize the skeleton WAS the structure because I kept thinking there would be upscale shops and cafes on the various floors. Well, when I finally came back to NYC last year, I was hoping Jamie W. and I could finally visit it but was told it was closed. I presumed it was due to the pandemic, but no - and they didn't admit this revelation - it was because they've had four people commit suicide jumping off the structure. FOUR! When we returned to Hudson Yards last month, we noticed you could enter the ground floor but couldn't climb beyond the first flight of steps. In other words, the only vantage point to be had was looking up. Our visit lasted 45 seconds. I heard there are serious doubts whether the entire structure could ever be reopened even with the proposed addition of safety guards. As I thought about the proposed safety nets on the Golden Gate Bridge, it puzzled me how the designers couldn't have anticipated the prospect of jumpers. It was a beautiful day to come and see this structure I've been dying to see. Although you can't go up the structure at this time.. You could enter the bottom part and look up and try to take a clever photo. But there's a cute gift shop with shirts and figurines and cute journals. The structure is visually stunning from the outside. Once inside, it's immediately clear that the majority of the structure is netted off--huge portions completely inaccessible. Don't ask to use the elevator...it is closed until some Tuesday in 2035. The entire place feels like it was built to be experienced from afar. Heaven forbid you walk near the edge or even look over it for a photo--security swoops in like you've committed a federal offense. The whole thing is crawling with people whose only job seems to be yelling at you for existing. And yes, you have to pay for this unfriendly, awkward experience. It's more barricade than building, save your money, skip the climb, and grab a coffee nearby instead. read more

This has to be one of the most unique landmarks to see in NYC! If I draw a parallel, this would be the NYC equivalent of "the Bean" in Chicago. Walking along the High Line, when you finally catch a glimpse of the Vessel, it really is striking and stands out. This multilevel observation platform that really catches the sunlight reflecting off of its metallic surface. Truly is a sight to behold amongst all of the surrounding skyscrapers. You can climb the stairs up to each platform if you like and the rumor is that this structure cost $200 million dollars to build. It's a great place to take pictures inside of and in front of. Unfortunately only the first floor was open as the rest of the structure was closed off to the public but even just looking from the bottom floor up is a great sight. I was fortunate to be staying at one of the high-rise buildings in Hudson Yards that overlooks the vessel so I could at least see what it looks like from the top even if it was closed. read more

I always pass by here when I'm going to work but never had the chance to stop and enjoy it. The other night my daughter and I went to an event and had a couple of minutes to stop by. It's beautiful at night, plenty of people around wandering and enjoying the view. We didn't need tickets for the bottom floor, they allowed us to walk around but people were saying that it is not allowed to go all the way to the top anymore for safety reasons! She's back! After several years hiatus I was finally able to climb the vessel. If you're a local make sure to get your free Thursday reservation ASAP online. They're already booked out a month and don't accept walk ups. I ended up paying the $10 GA ticket because I'm scared of this thing closing again. This piece is a true art piece but unfortunately, it's closed off because they didn't think it through. There have been multiple suicides so they shut the whole thing down. Or was it from people taking pictures leaning forward too much and fall off? I don't know. I haven't been inside so I don't know how short or tall the glass railings are but I recommend making it higher so people can't jump or accidentally fall over it from taking pictures.
