There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them,and they were left to care for themselves. Two-fold after my baby sister passed away 25 years ago in Trenton-HT the wake my mother arranged at this post was a bismal. Half-way through eating my mother came to me and my father (both USAF career) we need to pay the bartender 2-300, I said for what. She did t say. So then all the bar Flys dug in to the food and socializing with our grieving family. Next 13 years ago when my mother passed I contated the VFW Adjutant and Aux members when moms funeral was and not ONE member showed. My mom served as their Poppy Queen for years. VFW be damned.

This is a gamechanger for me. I'll be hitting up this VFW before Starland shows from now on when I'm out that way. Very friendly bartender, and the veteran who runs the place is a good fellow. They've got some clean bathrooms too. The VFW is cash-only, so keep that in mind! And if you're attending a sold-out Starland show that starts at 7, with doors at 6, I suggest pulling into the VFW lot between 4 and 5. It's a fun place to hang out and have some conversations and beers before the show.

If you didn't BYOB, the VFW Bar is open to the public and offers cheap beers (roughly $2-$4 for beers & $3-$6 for liquors). They don't have cooked food, but they do have small snack items and a restroom. If you're there early enough, often the bands performing at Starland will stop in and buy a few rounds there, so you can drink with the bands before the show!
