"No man left behind." Many many years of growing my father and his interactions with my extended family were passionate about their military careers. My rearing was focused around military life. Many generations have proudly served this nation. When one falls down, we pick them up. If they are injured, dead, no one gets left behind. Story after story and of real life accounts of wounded men that would of died. These men that fell were carried on the backs of their brothers to safety. How is it so many values can be instilled in so many brave men and women whom defend our nation, but are forgotten when they come home? Organizations such as this exist to help out those that have fallen. We all need a helping hand once in a while. Many are too proud to ever ask. How do we change the current situation? It seems more and more of our service men and woman come back from over seas unable to cope with what they have seen. When was the last time you say a dead body? How about a suicidal bomb go off while your eating? In some places out side of our world this is a fact of life. Bodies lay dead in the streets. In our great nation their are some cities that don't even allow the dead to be buried in city limits. Many Americans live to old old age, we do not witness death like other places in the world. Now think about what these people see. How would your mental state be when you got home? Your suppose to go out and get a regular job, connect with people on a normal level. Sometimes it's not that easy. Many of our armed forces peoples keep this bottled up. They let these images they have seen haunt them. This is where we can help. Washington can only do so much. Freedom is not free. It's a fight that we battle every day. Someone right now is fighting to protect my and your way of life at their own expense. Be the change in the world. When I lost my husband three years ago today, this was the organization that I reached for. My husband spent eight years serving this nation. He was duty and honor all the way. Many of his things that he cherished I donated here. The donation center is easy to get too and can be done anonymously. We wanted to reach even more. From time to time when they needed extra help for events we were there serving food to those that seemed broken. These individuals are not broken, they need change. They need people to care. They need people to know that their sacrifices were not in vein. The Covid virus has not been kind to organizations that are trying to help others. Most of these places closed up for six months or longer. Some have run out of funds. Sure money helps everything. Or does it? We need new individuals to step up and take charge. Let's show our veterans that they have not been forgotten. It is the duty of all the citizens to make an impact. Many may not know that a lot of veterans that come back from these ever lasting wars end up homeless. These are things that need to change. As a collective let's try to make 2021 the year that mattered. Be the voice for those that have none. We can do it. Look how far we have come. It all starts with every one having a voice. You matter! The food bank is on property and its nice to be able to stock up on food with the public that comes out to the food bank as well. But if you live on the property, there are a lot of bugs infested in the apartment. Its furnished and all but, I had to bomb the house every 2 weeks to keep rid of them. Too many roaches infested on the premises. They will crawl on everything, your bed, your dressers, your couch, and cabinets. Take care of the bugs yourself. The property wont spray the apartment enough. And never leave food out or opened!! read more

his place is the SHIT HOLE of half way houses !!!!, since moving in 7/1/2019 I seen about 1 -2 roaches through out the place, no kitchen sink nor kitchen, even Segiel suites @ $253 per week has something you can cook on, or store cold drinks in. 70% are Vets, 20% are vet dependents and 10% are nasty homeless folks who bring germs and sickness with them. They have a food bank where they serve fruits and vegetables, and light snacks; cooks sandwiches that are donated by 3 square. REALLY, i did 21 years in military and this is what is comes down to, most place require $1300 - $2300 income or 1X - 3X the rent to qualify to stay there, just started a new job and trying to Saving ALL check for a BIG DOWN PAYMENT on another place only good thing is all utilities are included to include electricity read more

We received several boxes of frozen foods, condensed milk, juice, bread & some other items that we didn't need. Unfortunately they delivered it on Friday. The first time we bridge it somewhere on the other side is town but the next time I did a search & found Veteran's Village who are open 365 a year. Being that my dad who recently passed away was a vet, I knew I wanted to donate here. They graciously accepted our items & came to our car to get the item. Some of their clients who were around the office also thanked us for the donation. Next time I have anything to donate they are my first call. read more

This place is a rip off. Very disappointing that this property has come to ripping vets off while claiming they are a nonprofit lodging facility for homeless vets. They do not just serve vets a good portion of their clients are not even vets. This place use to be amazing I have referred so many soldiers here and unfortunately I will not from now on. Shame on you veterans village for trying to make a profit off of the people who have served and put their lives on the line to keep you safe. Soldiers get screwed over so many times already and here is a place advertising that they are different but they are all lies. I wonder if the mayor knows that there is a property in his city ripping off vets who he supports so vigorously. They need to be investigated. read more

As good as it gets is a understatement ! Most places give little about their staff, here and guest camaraderie a word known to all veteran is found again. We try to live together helping and caring for each other. The living area are clean and safe the campus has guards around the clock. I have a soft spot for Veteran's. My father served our country in WWII and Korea. My oldest brother served 20+ years in the Air Force including service in the middle east wars. I'll avoid the standing on the sop box by simply saying if there's anything within my power i can do to assist current members of the Armed Services and Veterans, I'm there. Back in December, I received a note from one of my FB friends advising she's volunteering at a luncheon for Veteran's at Veteran's Village - a new hotel property that focuses on assisting Veteran's. I signed up for the event. At the event I was given a tour of the property by the property director, Arnold Stalk. I was awestruck by Mr. Stalk's vision for the property and the incredible local support to make this "hotel" a reality. As an example, ( and a positive attribute of Facebook), Mr. Stalk was looking for volunteers to assist in painting the hotel unit - so he posted on Facebook hoping the word will get out. He received a response from some employees of Home Depot ( I believe they were Vets ) and after they spent the day painting, one of the volunteers indicated they would contact Home Depot Corporate to see if they can further assist since a large portion of the hotel was in dire need of construction improvement ( it was an abandoned 120+ unit hotel in downtown so you can probably imagine the condition of the property . ) The result ? A $700,000+ grant from Home Depot to repair the property !! Another example of giving ? Sands Corp. graciously contributed hotel furniture to furnish the units. There have been numerous charitable organizations and church groups that have contributed to VA Village to help make it a reality -God Bless America and God Bless the amazing citizens of Las Vegas that DO CARE ! ( oops, i did it, i stood on the soap box, albeit only for a second... sorry ) Back to Veteran's Village and what it's about. Simply put, the goal is to put a roof over the heads of Veteran's. A portion of the hotel is reserved for Vets that are simply visiting Las Vegas. More importantly, a large portion of the property is to assist Veteran's in need. Not only housing but they also assist veteran's to find assistance/resources, basically, to get back on their feet. The first tenant of the hotel was a veteran, his pregnant wife and their young child. They were homeless. They weren't looking for pity - I believe he was actually employed at the time - they needed ( and deserved ) a helping hand. I'm really impressed with the hotel manager, Dennis. He is a partially disabled veteran that worked his way through the "system" to obtain his deserving government benefits after serving our country in Iraq/Afghanistan. He bends over backwards to educate other veterans on what benefits are afforded to them. He follows a simple philosophy," I'll work as hard for you as you work for yourself." Meaning - you make the effort and I'm with you every step of the way. As of late, the word is getting out about Veteran's Village. Local restaurants are providing food for the pantry, local charities are bringing clothes and numerous people are volunteering their time to help the cause. Future plans include, " sponsor a room" where people can contribute the cost of housing a veteran at the hotel. I try to visit Veteran's Village every other week to bring gift cards and non-perishable food. Everytime I visit i hear about the amazing progress of this non-profit hotel and it truly warms my heart. So if you know of a Veteran that needs housing assistance, have them call Veteran's Village. If you have a few extra cans of tuna in the pantry, don't be shy, simply drop them off at the front desk of Veteran's Village. if you have an extra $10, next time at Walmart or McDonalds, buy a gift card and drop it off - I promise, it will put to good use ! read more

I'm not sure how I should necessarily go about reviewing this place because all I did was drop donations off. I will say it is a clean facility with very nice people working at the facility. I feel that our vets get overlooked a lot and instead of donating these expensive things to goodwill etc. where the people who own goodwill can profit off it, I decided to take the drive down with my father and specifically hand it off. read more

Very disappointed. I called several times over a months time, attempting to make a donation. I was told I would be called back by the person in charge of donations. Not one call back. I emailed the person who runs this place. His response was of concern. He assured me he would investigate and get back to me. No call back. I sent another short email to him about this. His response was an excuse of how busy they are. I have been a homeless veteran. I have been in other shelters for veterans in different states. This one apparently is no different. How sad that people work for paychecks without caring about those who put their trust in them. read more

WOW! Such an inspiring place. I was so pleased to find out that this transitional, emergency housing existed for veterans in our city. To also hear out that they offer a wide variety of services onsite to vets who need help getting their feet under them. To know that someone cares about our vets that may be suffering in ways that they often can not yet address. I am certain that the Vets who visit and ultimately benefit from this facility are likely in the midst of some of their worst days. To the team that made this facility possible; I thank you from the bottom of my heart for assisting the vets who've served our country, and who have fallen on hard times. read more

I love anyplace that directly supports our nation's veterans. We dropped off some donations and viewed the site. They provide housing and immediate needs for vets. They are always in need of simple meals such as mac n cheese, soups, etc. I encourage support of them and will be continuing my donations. read more

VV is transitional housing, but they also rent rooms to veterans by the week and month. This is for a paid stay. Straight down to business. The good, bad, and downright ugly. - Free food. Not referring to the pantry, there are loads of freebees. Mostly baked goods, but there are also occasional canned goods, snacks, fruits and veggies. It will slash your grocery bill considerably. - It's cheaper than most if not all long term stay hotels in the area. The only thing that might be cheaper is a backpacker hostel, which can be an option if you don't mind having multiple roommates. - The place has cockroaches. The problem will never be controlled as long as they spray poisons, while ignoring the cracks and gaps where cockroaches can gain entry and move around the building. If you plan on staying here, word of advice. You can take cockroaches with you when you leave. Leaving your belongings in your car on a hot Vegas summer day should kill them. - The WiFi here is downright horrendous. It's highly unsecure because the weak encryption used lures malicious users who have gone on to attack end user systems and the routers themselves. Performance depends on typical traffic variations; fine one day/week, largely non-functional the next. - Some of the staff are very disrespectful. One made promises she knew VV may not be able to keep (take everything the southern blonde lady says with a grain of salt), then another staff blew me off when I complained. Their maintenance man beat on my door and windows, waking me up, thinking he could kick me out of my parking spot so he and his buddies could have some sort of get together in the parking lot. They entered my room while I was away, claiming it was legal. Just who do the fudge do these people think they are? It's cheap but there are some serious tradeoffs. I left this place and went back to living in my car. It wasn't an easy decision to make, but it had to be done. This place was dragging me down with it. There are better long term hotels in area, and they don't cost that much more. read more

Veteran's Village changed my life in the worst way. I had to return to las vegas due to my motther hitting end stage kidney failure at 71 and i was working in california. I had a little money saved but not much. I contacted Veteran's Village and was assured many times that they would assist me with living quarters and finding a job in las vegas. So i took the gamble and used the last of my money to get to Las Vegas. When I arrive, i am told they need $100 deposit and a set fee per night for lodging, that they don't do lodging assistance, I need to get with the Urban League. However, i was exactly what Veteran's Village allegedly was looking for in an employee and there was a job opening. I talk to Ron Harris at the Urban League and he tells me he can't help me until I'm employed. I contacted Veteran's Village repeatedly inquiring as to when i can start working for them and 5 days after my arrival in las vegas I'm told "Sorry, they decided to hire somebody else". So now I'm homeless, unemployed and headed down to the shelter to shack up with drunks and junkies. Way to go Veteran's Village. You created a broke unemployed homeless Vet. Thank you for your gratitude for my service. I'm so ashamed of my situation I can't even visit my mother or tell my children of my situation. I would've stayed in California until everything was lined up properly if I would've known. Lies. All of it was lies. read more

I lived here for awhile and this place is a mental health and homeless shelter as well as privite pays at the end of that are the vets. See when I lived here only about 30 or less of people where vets the rest where on a programs that where paying for their stay and then there where people who where private pay. There was very little difference between the private pays and the vets and other than the vets got weekly access to the food pantry and the rest did not except if there was a need and approveal from management. I think the worst part of this place is the lack of actual caring from the staff that works here. They promise you heaven to keep you living in poor condition. I feel bad for the people who this is their only option of housing and they have to put up with the mistreatment by the staff here. Steve the most abusive he acts like he owns the place and is constantly cussing at the clients and being rude. One time I was in the lobby this female tenant who was trying to be helpful to tell people that the food pantry had gotten in donations and Steve looks at her with the manger Greg standing next to him and told her to shut the hell up. Greg said nothing to him even though as far as I understand Steve is just staff and Greg is the manger. I also seen him a couple of times get into it with an old vet yelling and cussing him out. Then when the vet leaves to go back to his room Steve starts talking about how the guy is an alcoholic and if he that f***ing miserable with his life he should just kill himself. Yet the worst I seen it and expereince it was the day I left. They had bags of food sitting out for us to take and I got one and it did not have a sandwhich in it and put it back and got one with a sandwhich and steve starts yelling at me says why you F-ing touching all of the stuff up here if you touch one take it. I had on several occians told polietly but firmly that he is not to talk to me that way and today I got harder and said F-U don't talk to me that way and he got up in my face and told me that if I said anything like that again he was going to punch and throw me threw the F-ing wall. All the while the manger is sitting behind the desk not saying are doing anything like getting in this guys face or protecting and this guy could have seriouly hurt me. This is what I mean by the staff not caring. Like I said before they tell you a lot to get you to stay. They told me for the couple of months I was there they where going to fix the hole the wall left by a former tenant in my room never got anything fixed. I told this staff daniel about the roach problem in my room and I was given some story that as long as it was not this center kind of roach that it was ok. Huh! I suppose to live with roaches. Also this place is infested with bed bugs but they will not tell you this while taking your money. Also they take your money and forget to tell you that cable is about to be shut off. Also when this guy promised me for a couple of days to give me my money back started to give me a song and dance about he could not give me my money back and I was thinking crap I will be here for the rest of the month but steve who really did not like me threw in two hundred of his own money that he would get back from them to get me out. Please read this and understand that I saw very love while there for me or the other residents. It felt like the staff had their seperate club and the truth was the last thing we got. I hope they improve this because we need more for our vets but this is like a cold hard slap for the service these people gave. read more
