When it came time to put our beloved dog down after 16 years we took him to Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida. My German Shepherd/Pitbull mix woke me up at around 4:30am on a Thursday morning, he was throwing up water in the kitchen, I got out of bed and let him out, he came back in a little later and was staggering.... I took him to the VEC ER on 466A in Fruitland Park, his temp was 107.8. I didn't realize how dangerous that high a temp can be, it is deadly..... does brain and organ damage. I was not told he really had very little chance of surviving. I was frantic and threw my credit card down for 3,000.00 to 6,000.00. They were able to get his temp down, and he stayed overnight. They called on Friday morning and said come get him, adding $400.00 to the $3,000.00 I had already paid. I brought him home, he didn't know who I was, and wouldn't eat anything and when he drank water, he had explosive diarrhea. Not only was his brain damaged but his organs were too. He just wanted to go hide under a large bush in the yard, and die. My vet came Saturday morning. Told me if a client comes to him with a dog with that temperature he recommends putting them down. They are basically toast. No one knows why his temp was so high, he was fine the night before, ate dinner, acted normal. Took his pills at 9:00pm. VEC diagnosed heat stroke, but he was in an air conditioned house, so clearly that wasn't it. He was an old dog, not sure how old, with health problems. I knew that when I adopted him a little over 3 years ago, but in spite of his problems, he was a happy, seemingly healthy boy. His blood work was always excellent. I am beyond devastated, and annoyed that the ER didn't tell me that he had almost zero chance of recovery, so he ended up suffering for two days while I thought he would get better. Now, I have a $3400.00 Visa bill, and a broken heart. I wrote them, to see if they would give me some grace on that exorbitant bill, but they didn't bother to respond. Beware. read more

Sadly, my German Shepherd passed away very unexpectedly Saturday night while we were sleeping. As you can imagine, we were devastated. I called our regular veterinary office, but they were closed. However, their voicemail suggested we contact Veterinary Emergency Clinic. We called and explained what happened and that we wanted to have her cremated. They were very understanding and told us to bring her to them. When we got there, they directed my husband to take the car around the side of the building where they would meet him with a stretcher. In the meantime, I stayed up front with the receptionist. She took me into a room which was clearly for people mourning the loss of their pets. She was very comforting to talk with. My husband arrived in the room and we waited for Casey to be brought in. A gentleman brought her to us. He had wrapped her in a nice blanket and told us to take all the time we needed with Casey. Both my husband and I were beside ourselves with grief. We loved on our baby and let her know how missed she will be. My husband went outside the room and met with the gentleman. Together, they made the final plans for Casey while I had a little more time with her. He was so kind, I really appreciated him and all the staff there. My husband, with his help, picked out a very nice urn for Casey, and the price was really reasonable. On Thursday, I received the call that her remains were ready. I arrived and was greeted by a different lady than last time. When she brought Casey's remains to me, I got a bit teary eyed and she offered me some words of comfort. I'm convinced you guys saved my dog's life. My dog presented to the clinic with bronchopneumonia that had previously been diagnosed by another veterinarian in Tavares (iykyk). I spent over $1,000 and a little over a month of treating my dog with this previous vet for him to get increasingly worse. I took my dog to this Veterinary Office where he was treated with nothing but kindness and respect. The veterinarian on staff, while very direct (which I have grown to appreciate), told me where my other vet had fallen short, what his plan of action was, walked me through his thought process, did what he could to make sure the treatment was effective and cost friendly, and really changed my dog's life. A little about Jake, he's a 14 almost 15 year old couch potato who's rather timid after being rescued by the SPCA from dog fighting as a bait dog. He was struggling to breath during my first interaction with this vet office. We left that day and my dog immediately showed signs of improvement. While he still has a little ways to go with our new primary vet, I am fully convinced if it wasn't for the staff at this clinic my dog would not be around anymore to get snuggles and love. My Jake is doing 1000x better after the treatment provided by this office. I am so thankful for the team here for providing quality and affordable care. I have had my shepherd pup since 8 weeks old he is now almost two, I know of bloat and took all the precautions to prevent it, However Gunther is very hi-strung and when I noticed he seemed to be in pain and his tummy was very tight I knew something was wrong and not wanting to take any chances I rushed him to the closest emergency clinic. They took x-rays and confirmed the worst, it was bloat. I knew time was ticking for him and even though I caught it in the early stages I still panicked. The clinic was very nice, the vet on duty very sympathetic, however they didn't do this type of surgeries there. They suggested going to Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Fruitland park. I didn't have much money and after paying for the emergency check up, xrays and pain shot, it left me in even worse condition. They told me the clinic was privately owned and they were known to work with people on the money. So I rushed him there knowing that I might not make it to the two other available clinics in the area because he could die on the way. Once I arrived at this clinic they took Gunther in the back and I was immediately taken into a room where I was met with someone from the office to explain how much the surgery would cost before they could do anythig to help him. The cost would be on the low side near $4500.00 and on the hi side $7500.00! Since I didn't have pet insurance I would need to come up with at least $4500.00 before they would do the surgery. My baby was hurting...dying slowly in the next room and they wouldn't do anything until the money was sorted. I was so angry. they wouldn't take payments or let me try to raise the money afterwards, they gave me three options. I could pay to have him put down, take him now and try to find another clinic (or watch him die slowly and in extreme pain) Or surrender all rights to him and the vet would do the surgery and he would be placed in a rescue and find a forever home. I had no choice, I didn't want him to die! I had to surrender my baby! What kind of a vet that supposedly works with a rescue would take a dog from a loving home, the only home he's ever known and put him into a shelter, knowing how many dogs are in shelters and many never find they're forever homes? I never met the vet, they never showed themselves. The heartless people there wouldn't let me call to see how he did, they said I would surrender any rights to know his outcome. What kind of people are they? Please, please, unless you have really good pet insurance and a large open balance on your credit card, do not take your pets here!! read more

New location seemed nice from the outside but it is incredibly dirty on the inside specifically the floors. There are poop spots and urine in the grout on the floors. The poop spots in the lobby and in the hallway by the lobby looked fresh. There is no reason someone couldn't mop it up. I came in because I believed my cat had an obstruction in his throat. I was placed in a room in about 30 minutes. The tech came in took some info, started talking about doing bloodwork without ever having had a vet look at the cat, I was concerned the cat had something in his throat. Seems they should examine the cat first before discussing bloodwork. The tech came back said the vet was going into a lengthy surgery. She said next vet would arrive in an hour and 45 minutes but I would be first in line if I wanted to wait. She came back 10 minutes later and said she was mistaken I would be 5th in line once this vet arrives, I could expect to wait more than 3.5 hours. I asked if someone could at least look down the cats throat. She said that would have to be done by the next vet. I asked if I left and came back would I still have my spot, she said no I had to stay, if I needed snacks they have a snack machine in the lobby. I didn't want to wait I found another vet nearby with immediate availability. read more

This June my sweet Labrador was in need of Euthanasia. She was 13.5 years and had a stroke after a long bout with other illnesses. We took her to the VEC in Fruitland Park. They recently moved from Leesburg where we had a very good experience. This new clinic was immaculate. We were led to a private room. The Vet Tech (I'm sorry I don't remember his name, was extremely kind and helpful. The Vet, Dr. German was so kind and compassionate. Butterbean passed peacefully in our laps. Then we got a beautiful card signed by all the staff. It was as painless experience as could be. When the time comes, I would definitely go here for my pet's final day. I honestly believe they have saved my cat Pooh Bears life. It was a difficult road and I honestly thought my Persian was dying. He was sick. The diarrhea was green. I knew he hadn't eaten anything other than the food I was feeding him so I thought it had to be food poisoning from a tainted can. They took him into the hospital nursed him for five days handed him back to me yesterday and I've got my cat back! On 8/30/2025, I took my chi weenie dog to VEC Villages for severe vomiting. I communicated she is a normally healthy dog but has had a history of pancreatitis. After a barrage of tests, medications and fluids I was told by the vet it could be the start of pancreatitis and was given 4 different medications, despite that I had brought the medications she took for her bout of pancreatitis in May 2025. my bill lists her diagnosis as early HGE or pancreatitis. She started having diarrhea by evening and looked distressed and in pain. The following morning 8/31/2025 I called VEC Villages and told a staff member I would like a return call because the medication didn't seem to be giving her any comfort and though each bottle of medication she received had the correct info for a prescription it did not list what each one was for as my regular vet had printed on her prescription bottle ie. for pain, for nausea. I explained I needed to know what each medication was for to determine if she was having side effects of the medication and why she was still in pain. I also reported she was having diarrhea. I received NO RETURN PHONE CALL that day or any day thereafter. It was Labor Day Weekend and my poor dog was declining. Thankfully my regular vet owner of Tavares Crossroads Veterinary Clinic saw a text I placed on their answering machine on 9/1/2025 and made arrangements for my very sick dog to be seen the following day. Of course my vet had to repeat the tests and again give fluids. I was astounded at the difference in charges for the exact same tests medications and fluids. VEC charges two and in one case three times what my vet charges. Im sure this corporation thinks the charges are warranted because it's emergency care, I think they are so EXPENSIVE because they have recently moved to a new free standing building to look impressive not to provide a service to help animal owners in a time of distress. Here's the worst part, my dog didn't have either diagnosis. She was MISDIAGNOSED and a simple fecal test revealed she had coccidia which is a protozoan parasitic infection. She finally received the correct medication and pain meds from my regular vet Dr Mollman. VEC at Villages is EXPENSIVE, DON'T RETURN PHONE CALLS AND MISDIAGNOSE. All I can think of now is how my dog was in pain and declining for three days and this situation needs to escalate. read more

Obviously I'm going to say yes to giving the antivenin to my dog or else he would die, but I did explain to her that the vet should be aware of the correct prices so he doesn't give false prices to the pets owners. She quickly, and rudely snapped back at me and said "he doesn't make the prices so do you want to go through with this or not." This office did not make me feel safe, welcome, or that they were going to treat my dog in an "emergency" manner. My dog ended up dying because of the delay. I highly do not recommend this place. Dog was puking and had diarrhea. Was suggested we come here by 2 local vets. Greeted and roomed right away. Weight and temp taken. Had 3 different people pop in while waiting. Then vet arrived and palpated tummy. Said an estimate would come soon, to just wait. We had no empathy, no thoughts what could be going on. Then came estimate for 980. Said no. Then 580. Said no. Then 300. Said no. Walked out with 140 bill for estimates and no advice or thoughts. Then by morning the dog pooped blood. Had to go back. This time with the blood, doc guessed what it was and gave us a bill to pay of 2900 to 4100 for treatment. Dog stayed all day and did well with treatment so we picked her up with medication later that night. We received no instruction of care and prevention for her, why she may have got her issue or how to prevent. We just got med dosing instruction. I had to go back in to ask when to start med and ask what to feed her and how long It is a very cold atmosphere for a place to treat our fur babies. Our 11 month old rescue Rottweiler got a hard rubber toy totally stuck on his lower jaw. We brought him into the clinic after calling first. They said they could help him. They had us fill in the paperwork in the room and they brought him back by himself. In 5 minutes they brought him out, the toy was removed- no charge! He was completely panicked- Running and bumping into everything. I made the decision to let him go and when I got to Leesburg without so much as a cursory exam the vet tech decided it was not an emergency and just let him wait until his regular vet opened on Tuesday. Dr. EISENSON was unprofessional. I felt like I was placed on trial being judged by a jury. I was petting sitting a sweet dachshund. A young male dog. One morning he woke up shaking and wincing and could not use his back legs. When I explained that he did not have any accidents or injuries he said it didn't add up and he couldn't disprove that. Immediately I felt shut down and I was shocked. He got the owners on the phone and again said that I said nothing to my knowledge caused this but he had no way to disprove that. He explained they couldn't treat him there because he would need an MRI which would look like "an $8,000 day". I left the room when the owner arrived. I was hysterical at this point. It was all about money. The owner decided to put him down. There are so many foundations and rescues that would pay for the surgery and it was never suggested to put him on bed rest with pain medication and a steroid injection. What kind of doctor has a 5 minute conversation about a perfectly healthy dog who just has a slipped disc and agrees to put him down? The entire experience was extremely unprofessional. If he was a kind doctor he would have said "now an MRI can be expensive so let's explore other options if that's not possible" and I could have had a chance to offer to take him. I hope they see this photo and remember this sweet boy could have been saved and there were other options. read more

This has to stop I'm not the only one that it has happened to I heard them telling another person the same thing after they were in my room. I wasn't even allowed to see him before I was forced into signing the papers, I was crying so bad I couldn't see they had to put my hand in the right place to sign. The staff here is incredible. My cat had to be hospitalized after having a blockage die to stress (we just moved) and a UTI. I was in and out of this place for days. Between Avalon Clinic and Veterinary Emergency Clinic from Waterford Lakes, my bills are extremely high. However, my Cat, Piojo seems to be getting better and the providers here were very patient, caring and understanding with my concerns. I wish the doctors here would have a day clinic. Avoid Kimberly Lindamood at all costs. My dog was brought in for an obstruction in her tummy. She saw the overnight vet on duty, Dr. Robinson. We were told our best bet was to keep her there overnight and see if the obstruction passed naturally. The next morning Dr. Robinson did another x-ray and was pleased with how the obstruction was digesting and wanted to keep her for a few more hours to see if she went to the bathroom. Then, there was a shift change. Once Dr. Lindamood took over for Dr. Robinson, we heard no more about the obstruction. In fact, we heard very little. We went to the office to try and pick up our dog (after being told the obstruction was passing) and my mom was told it would be hours before anyone would be available to speak to her, and that she could not take our dog. My mom asked if she could just take her outside to try and get her to poop. They said no. Keep in mind, they had already charged my credit card for a $1400 deposit AND owed ME money. I, obviously, started to get upset. We were just told that we could not see our dog at all. Nobody would tell us what was going on. Nobody would tell us if she was OKAY. My mom called me and after I raised my voice at to the receptionist (totally admit I lost my cool, what a helpless feeling when someone is holding your dog hostage) and asking to please give us our dog back, the veterinarian finally spoke to us. De. Lindamood is the least compassionate veterinarian I have ever encountered with the worst demeanor. She started telling us that our dog needed more tests because of her red blood cell count. When I asked questions about what that had to do with the obstruction, she grew irate with me and said she didn't like my attitude and that my dog was not critical to her. Well she is critical TO ME. I had to ask her SEVEN TIMES if my dog had an X-ray that morning showing that the obstruction was moving through her colon, and asking what that had to do with her red blood cell count? Instead of being understanding about how confused and terrified we were, Dr. Lindamood spent 15 minutes ranting at me without letting me ask questions pertaining to my dogs health. When I was asking about the morning x-ray she said to me "I will not give you that information. I don't have to speak to you and I won't." She then implied that it was up to her if she still wanted to let my dog stay at the emergency clinic, knowing FULL WELL this is the only emergency vet for miles. Obviously, we demanded our dog be discharged immediately. At that point we had no idea what was wrong with her, but I knew Dr. Lindamood didn't give a shit about my dog. In fact, I truly felt she would hurt my dog if I left her in their care because she obviously hated my mother and I. It took them another TWO HOURS to discharge my dog, I LITERALLY had to call the LCSO in order for them to release her. The care of your pets should never be dependent on whether or not the veterinarian likes you. Dr. Lindamood gets irate by the fact that you're upset about your family member and asking questions to try and make informed decisions. She is totally and completely unethical. Please, take your babies elsewhere. It's worth a drive to Orlando to avoid Dr. Kimberly Lindamood. read more

Avoid at all cost. They may act nice but it is all about money. They do not care at all. They take your animal when you walk in but they put them in a cage in the back. Don't let your animal leave your sight. This place is horrific. They will not do a thing to save your pet. If they need CPR, they won't do it until you authorize. It will be too late by then. But they will charge you. They make big bucks for putting an animal to sleep and that takes very little of their time so that seems to be what they prefer to do. The Veterinarian is doing scheduled surgeries so they are in the building but not helping your pet. THEY MAY ACT LIKE THEY CARE ,BUT THEY DON'T! Keep your animal with you at all times. Better yet never go here because chances are they will be dead before you leave. Question everything. Your pet is in a cage by themselves when they are hurting when they could be with you is animal cruelty. There is no excuse for this despicable place. Stay away. Go anywhere else. They killed my pet and lied about everything when I questioned it. I really think they did something to kill him because he was not critical. Medically nothing they said made sense. They also held my pet ransom and would not give him to me even though he was crying in the back and the Veterinarian was in surgery. They made me pay their bill before I could see my pet after asking for hours to see my pet. They literally extort money out of you. This place should be out of business. Anyway, they listened to my description of my baby-boy "Ozzie" (a 6yr old Jack) that had swallowed a toothpick-and it was lodged in his throat sideways!!! Despite being in a panic...they handled it professionally - and with compassion. I asked from the onset..."How much is this going to cost?" Worst experience ever. Mis-diagnosed, wrong treatment, damaged pet, rough handling of pet, and then charged an unbelievable amount of money. This hospital is criminal and takes advantage of being the only pet help available on weekends. Very very angry at the treatment of our pet. Other key people have since told me that they have a very bad rep in the local community. Especially with other clinics. read more

We just moved here from out of state with our elderly cat. We already knew he was sick & on borrowed time but we had a beautiful month with him in the new home. When his time was near (of course very late on a Saturday night) we called and they were waiting for us as we came to the door. The staff were compassionate and explained everything. Charges were very reasonable. They persented us with his paw print. Very nice! Today we received a sympathy card with the signatures of all the staff. Very thoughtful!! read more
