Here we have the most Center City bike shop in Philadelphia. At 19th and Chestnut, if you work in…read moreCenter City and want a repair while at work, Breakaway is your best option. The good: Breakaway seems to cater to a wide range of bicyclists, from commuters, to casual riders to enthusiasts. Frequently, I'll see an enthusiast/regular purchasing another expensive part, bike, what have you. However, they treat all types of riders with respect and dispense advice as needed. Maybe a more experienced rider would be offended, but they're just trying to get you on your way safely. For the rest of us, their prices are perhaps a tad on the more expensive side but comparable to major neighborhood bike shops in West, South, Fairmount, etc. Nothing outrageous, in my opinion. They do most repairs quickly and efficiently. They have several staff members available throughout the day and can handle most simple repairs at the same time or same day (depending on busy-ness) and most more major repairs, part ordering excepted, very quickly. I've had wheel truing done within 20 minutes, which when compared to other stores, is incredibly fast. The bad: They're slightly disorganized. I've picked up my bike same day and have been told it "wasn't done yet" even though a) I was told it would be done (I need it to go home) and b) was a pretty quick repair. Eventually the store manager stepped in (because he instructed the repair) and found my bike (repaired). No problem. The attitude problem is noted on other reviews. Like any place, it depends on the person. I've experienced a wide range of folks here, from nice/helpful, to a little off-putting. I think it's difficult for everyone to assess the level of experience relative to the customer/employee and perhaps that comes out in some users experiences. I've always been treated with respect here. I will and have come back.

I brought it in for a new seat post, and we ended up tuning up my bike as well as helped accessorize. Now I'm so excited to ride. I think everything was very reasonably priced and the service was super fast and friendly. They take care of their customers and don't nickel and dime you. Seriously I am a novice bike rider so it was nice to find a place that hooked it up without taking advantage of someone with minimal bike knowledge. Thanks very much!

I called to make sure they were open and could help, and someone answered the phone right away and was very kind and helpful. I walked my bike to the shop, and when I entered, I was greeted warmly and professionally. I disclosed that I really needed to ride my bike, and they understood and told me that they would try to salvage my ride. Thirty minutes later, my bike was ready, and they were once again very kind and helpful with the checkout process. And, they did in fact salvage my ride, for which I am so grateful. During the checkout process, another person with a flat came in. The staff was warm and professional toward this person. I heard someone mention a "community repair." I did not know what that was, but later, I looked up their website and learned more about the community repair fund as well as the ethos and history of the shop. What I read confirmed that these are cool humans doing cool things and supporting their community. I do not live in Fairmount, but because of my experience yesterday, I would definitely consider taking my bike there again. To the humans of Fairmount Bicycle, thank you so much! And, Happy Pride!

A year ago, I bought an E-bike, and unlike some bike shops that turn up their noses and say they won't work on them (ahem, Keswick Cycle), this shop openly welcomes them in. I had to get my rear wheel trued and tensioned, as I broke a few spokes after hitting a massive Philly pothole, and these guys took great care of it (after I had brought it to another bike shop, where the guy proceeded to rip spokes off of my wheel and said it was unfixable). And their prices are the fairest around. I now live a 45 minute drive from here, and will still come to them for all of my bike needs. Thanks Firth and Wilson!

The service and attention Victoria and her team provided at their Fishtown location was top notch. My bike made the 1000 mile trip in fine shape, and arrived over a week ahead of schedule! Transport Cycles communicated with me by phone, text and email -- then followed up the service with tracking information and a billing receipt. The initial, quoted price was spot on. All this for less than it would have cost to disassemble, package and ship the bike myself. I hope to become a repeat customer and can't wait to use them again. Thank you Firth & Wilson,
